Prelude coming August 31, so first chapter of the story is free to play.

Another shitty story, full of clichés...

It's a Telltale game now

Worth noting that as usual, The Prelude will only be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. PC users won't miss out on any content, just the chance to start MyCAREER early and get some hands-on time with the game before release.

My thoughts after watching the trailer, which itself is very well put together and looks like a movie trailer:

Positive:

- The story looks way better than last year's tale, possibly one of the best so far
- They've brought in some prominent and talented actors to play key characters
- It's a fresh approach with a good backstory that feels more universal

Negative:

- The story/backstory seems much better, but there's still a story, a concept that I'm over
- Likely cutscene-heavy, and with one story, creating new characters/starting over will likely be tedious
- No streamlined experience (I'm guessing, anyway)

Concerns:

- Progression rate/grind factor
- MyPLAYER Archetypes (Overpowered, underpowered, otherwise broken or problematic)
- VC gouging/pushy approach to microtransactions
- Tedium navigating The Neighborhood
- General gameplay issues I want to see addressed

Even though I'm looking at going back to franchise gaming this year and leaving MyCAREER alone (or at least playing it much more sparingly), I still hope it works for the best for those who are inclined to sink hours upon hours into it this year.

It's basically 2k version of Alex Hunter story from FIFA series.

2k found money for movie stars, but did not find for Charles Barkley. Nonsense

So... this is where purchasing VC on 2k18 went to, a better storyline...

They're just wasting their time and money with heavily produced my careers. Just go back to the 2k14 PC version of mycareer and let us create our own stories.

I like the incorporation of the G League teams. On PC we could potentially replace the generic story characters for actual Mad Ants players to add to realism.

Surely the G League players are part of the Players Association right? I would imagine they'd be in the game. At least the two way players

I'd say it is unlikely. Look at the Mad Ants team from the trailer.

You can skip cut scenes in #NBA2K19 and in your second and subsequent careers, you can skip the entire Prelude.

It's an overdue addition, but very welcome news. I'm glad that they listened to the feedback on cutscenes and having to play through the early stages of MyCAREER more than once; that'll make creating another character or starting over again a lot more tolerable. A great decision there, credit where it's due for addressing a major complaint.

Good point. The fact they're still not taking Barkley up on his offer to appear free of charge in exchange for a donation to the Retired Player Association is bewildering, especially when they'll spend money on things like that.

Two separate modes as they have been doing with MyLEAGUE and MyGM, or a choice between a story and no story (as they're doing with MyGM this year) would definitely be preferable.

Well it SHOULD be possible, but we know 2k's track record now in anything not involving trying to force players to buy VC

50000 VC to unlock actual Mad Ants players.

Yeah, we'll see how it goes in the demo, but I'm almost ready to guarantee that you will dominate the G-League and get into NBA as amazing surprise of the year... with 55 OVR.

Consistency between The Prelude and the rest of the mode will also be key. That wasn't the case last year, and it felt deceptive as a result.
