What do you mean? Of course it’s the point for them, but they’re making the game worse every year as a result which is my point.

While we expect a better game, they work on how to make more money with VC.

It sure felt that way with NBA 2K18. I should note that I do believe there are many talented people on the 2K team who want to make the best game possible, but the edict that it must generate as much "recurrent revenue" as possible is encroaching on their ability to produce such a product.

Up close screenshots of the players look great (the sweat looks different as well), but I really would like it if they brightened up the arenas. Staples Center is darker than most arenas, but you should still be able to see the crowd past the first few rows (NBA Live also has this problem).

Also, LeBron with a 98? LOL, he's way past his prime, but since he's the cover athlete, and that in turn is going to please the bandwagoners, they gotta juice his stats.

98 is totally to appease the bandwagoners, and maybe even the roster creator(s) also have bias towards him.

98 means that his defensive ratings will be incredibly inflated, as it's well knows LeBron did not have a good defensive season in the least. It means that many of his ratings will be far higher than they should be. But, anything to appease the "majority".

The players almost always look good in the screenshots up close. Like I said, graphics wise.. lighting/atmosphere need to be night and day different than last year.

Not trying to derail the thread, but I took a look at the comments of the screenshot tweet, and here's what I found.

Not only do these tweets prove the bandwagon point, but with a community like this, it just shows that the community assisted 2K with their declining quality. (basketball term intended)

Well it's all about perception.
2K rating is so bad for years. They dont want to hurt players so since many years, even a bad player is over 50.

It's not all about perception, when it impacts how the player also plays on the court (If the game is playing right, I should say). Much higher defensive ratings than real life makes it so the player plays at a higher level of defense on the floor than he should.

It also is a big disrespect to the legends who are well under 98 overall who had fantastic two-way play, and stats weren't heavily inflated.

I'll just bring him down if I end up liking the game, 98 is absurd.

My comment was about the reactions on twitter.
Harden had 95 last year despite his "defense", and R.Gobert had 88 in the other side despite his average attack abilities.
So, i'm not surprised at all, man, it's the cover athlete... they put the word GOAT on the cover

He just played his best season of his career so how could he be way past his prime ?

98 reflects his real counterpart perfect because he is still the best player right know and his defense is not bad at all just google Lebron top chasedown blocks have a good day haters  (Y)

Re: NBA 2K19 Official Screenshots

chasedown blocks dont mean good defense.
He did good defense in Miami, but his defense has been exposed many times theses last years.
Perhaps are you blinded by love.

His midrange has been on a decline, and his questionable defense has only gotten worse throughout the years. LeBron also does not guard the best players on each team, and instead either guards the worst player, or a player who's at the 3. Not only that, the way he plays the game is very one-dimensional. He literally dribbles the ball for more than half the shot clock, then decides to go for an assist pass, off a catch and shoot, or drive to the basket.

Him being the best player in the league is not a fact, it's an opinion. It's an opinion that is not shared by everybody either. And the bottom line is, in no way will his ratings be able to reflect the player he actually was last year (both sides of the ball).

And "Not bad" defense wouldn't garner you a 98 overall, average defense wouldn't garner that either. 98 means that his defense is elite along with his offense, which anybody who watched him play last season (Without bias) can without a doubt say his defense was not even close to elite.

Exactly. LeBron spends the majority of his time on the worst offensive players on the floor for a reason (Mbah a Moute, Liggins when against the Bucks after the signing, etc). His stats are incredibly inflated considering how often he is holding the ball at the top of the key on most possessions, and the way he lays off his man all the time so he can hangout around the basket and grab some rebounds.

This is the screenshot thread, we could take this over to the basketball section if need be. But, lets keep this topic clean.

Looking back at the screenshot, something just feels off about the trails of sweat along the face. At least it looks improved from vanilla 2K17 which looked like it was painted on.

Not impressed. They still can’t get lebron’s body type right. He looks thin, The shoulders are off, seems they just recycled bron’s cf and body from last year and added the beard. Why can’t they bring as much work as they did to giannis this year. He’s the legendary cover, duh. :|

*2k14 still has the best lebron, engine and atmosphere in the recent years.

Right, his body seems to be 2007 version

The jerseys are looking more detailed this year. Nice to see, but also something that's only apparent in a close-up screenshot. Of all the issues in NBA 2K18, that wouldn't have cracked my top ten must-fixes.

LeBron's 98 Overall could also be inflated by the Intangibles rating, but inflated defensive attributes are certainly possible too.

Tatum just got announced at 87 overall, which I also think it a bit high. yes, he had a good rookie year, but he didn't fill it up stat wise in the least. I'm sure some of his individual ratings are a bit inflated as well.

I remember when a star player on a team would barely even get a 85 rating, now it seems like any player can get an extremely high rating if they have any bit of promise.

All these people on Twitter and even the players themselves inflating the expected ratings so much. I remember watching some rookie interviews last year where players were asked how high they think their ratings should be, and some of them were saying in the 90's.... like what?

It's gotten to the point that even now the devs are starting to take these expectations into account and are inflating every player just to appease to this change. As far as the model goes, it's not much different. His skin colour looks a lot more contrasted or brighter and I'm not sure if that's a good thing.
