Historic Draft Classes Possible Easter Egg???

Postby Stildo33 on Fri Sep 07, 2018 10:10 pm

Hey Guys!

Okay, so I was peaking through a couple of draft classes. I always start my first myleague with 86 Celtics, play a season, draft Len Bias the next year. Thus, I always make an '86 draft class. Thankfully, most of that work is already done!

One thing I noticed is that the default 2nd player in this draft class is DARN near identical to Len Bias. 6'9"......PF as primary position and SF as secondary. The athleticism is almost identical to how I usually make him (although I probably over-did some abilities). The main thing is overall potential is default 91 (not bad considering the college data we have and a MASSIVE what-if since he died), most of the shooting and other tendencies were on par with his play style too.

Anyway, I just edited the bio and make a couple small tweaks (like upped his vertical a tad bit, as he could jump out of the gym). Anyway, super pumped to see that he was 98% already completed in the draft class in the right order.

Haven't looked at many other classes yet, but wondered if there might be similar players in there. I didn't see a similar Reggie Miller DNA made, but figured 2k wouldn't have a highly rater, bald sharp-shooter at the top of that draft class because then it might be "too obvious" what they were doing.

Hoping there are more similar ones that could be applied to more of the role players in each draft class. Would be awesome!

PS - uploaded the '86 draft class

That's definitely awesome if there are a few shortcuts; it sounds like that may be the case. As you noted, it might be a bit too obvious in some cases, though a rookie Reggie would probably have hair anyway.

Yep, Reggie wouldn't be bald. He'd have that way better sweet 80s do!

I keep looking for some other guys, but haven't noticed anything else crazy. However, I do think the shortcuts would be to copy player DNA. I noticed you can create a new player, import existing NBA player (or one from retro rosters, just not draft classes) and you will NOT have a nickname. :)

Reminds me a little of Megadrive NBA Live '95 where when you created a player using a rookie's name (rookies weren't "In the game") the created player resembled the rookie visually and hypothetically statistically.

That'd be NBA Live 96, but yeah, Easter Eggs like that definitely spring to mind.

In MyCareer your day-to-day manager is former player and talks about a heart condition and how he passed out on the court.

I think that is a nod to Hank Gathers.

Overall the game seems filled with bunch of easter eggs including in the story and that is definitely not a bad thing.

It could be a reference to Reggie Lewis and Pete Maravich, too. There have been a few tragic incidents with players who had heart conditions that weren't previously diagnosed.
