MyCAREER Breakdown by Chris Smoove

Dommy has already posted this in The Prelude impressions topic, but just in case anyone missed it, Chris Smoove has provided a fairly comprehensive breakdown of MyCAREER in NBA 2K19.

It does sound like they've addressed some pressing issues from last year in terms of VC rewards, player progression, and so on. The cynic in me can't help but mutter that this should've been what happened last year, and that there's a fine line between understandable teething problems and pushing their luck with an approach that blew up in 2K's collective face, but the bottom line is that they seem to have listened to the feedback and made the right changes. It should hopefully be a more enjoyable experience this year.

One area of concern that still jumps out at me is needing to go work out in the gym for boosts. That was pretty tedious last year, especially since online games also drained the boost. It wasn't fun having to interrupt a session to run back to the gym, work out, and then return to Pro-Am/The Playground to keep playing.

Yeah, I was thinking if I should try to consolidate all the changes etc in one thread with info in case someone who didn't really follow the news comes by.

Hard to say, sometimes. Sometimes central topics work better, other times they discourage discussion because people don't want to go looking through them.

I had to pause at the right screen, but there were prices for some skills (I see 3PT Level 18, Speed Level 20 and Acceleration Level 20). Prices *seem* to be okay-ish? 3Pt was 3750, Speed was 3500 and Acceleration was on 1750. Not sure on that still.

Also it's good to be back after quite some time. Hello.

Those prices seem to be in-line with last year which we pretty much estimated based on the ~190K you need to get to OVR 85.

BTW that signature. I was apparently prophet of the VC gouging lmao. Except instead of MyPhones and MyCubes we got headphones and bikes.

Do we have confirmation that the smartphone interface in MyCAREER this year and last year isn't a MyPHONE? We could certainly refer to it as such, though we don't have to buy it. I guess that's the next step, actually; different cases and wallpapers for the smartphone/MyPHONE interface, say 100-250 VC a pop. You know some people would bother with that level of customisation, too. It's like the old saying goes: a fool and his VC are easily parted.

Don't give them ideas.

That said, this was actually done in GTA IV. You could customize your phone's background and sounds with in-game money.

Considering we can unlock and purchase different running styles and taunts for The Neighborhood, it wouldn't be farfetched or really out of place. I think that kind of stuff is for people who really want to get into it, or have a bunch of VC saved up and feel like doing something with it because they're a long way from the next cap breaker. As long as it's reasonably priced and optional, I don't think it'd make things any worse. If it adds to the fun for other people, fair enough. Those of us who would rather pass on it can do just that.

Well there's the thing... As we all know bit too well they pushed VC into gameplay affecting stuff like player upgrades, playtime animations, etc.
Had they stuck with only cosmetic stuff being locked behind grind or 'very convenient' paywall I personally wouldn't give a damn about further cosmetic monetization. But at this point I'd like to avoid more monetization to be honest.

Fair call. And don't get me wrong, I think it'd be overkill and rather useless, though arguably no less useless than some of the other cosmetic purchases in The Neighborhood.
