That's unfortunate to hear. Packs weren't too bad last year, especially the Legends packs. I did actually drop some real money on them, and given some of the pulls - topped by Scottie Pippen, of course - I was happy to give up the loose change to boost my team and have a lot of fun. From the sounds of things, I won't be doing that this year.

It's not a negative, though. It just proves that you can build a team you want or like without buying any packs

There certainly is that aspect, I agree. I do think there's value in having special packs though, and having a use for coins other than the Auction House, especially with the way other users try to gouge with exorbitant prices.

The beauty about the format this year is that if you don't want to shell out for an 83-85 version of a player, there's often a version that's 1 point lower with similar ratings, making it much more affordable. Last year, there were legends that I had no chance of playing with if I didn't luck into them on the legends pack. This year I was able to pick up many legends for cheap because there are versions in the 70s. Plus with all these new cards, price on a lot of 80+ cards are coming down

That's a good point, too. I would like to see more content a la MyTEAM, though.

Tried and finished a gauntlet/live tournament series for the first time since the beginning of the season and they've definitely upped the rewards. I got a Sprewell legend card for completing it

It's a pretty good card overall.
80s, 79s, 78s on all stats. Nothing lower than that. I also got some lower rates cards I sold as well as a Mavs alternate jersey.

I don't recall the prize for completing this at the beginning of the season, but it was definitely not as good as a legend card. I might grind through another series to see what I pull on the next one.

Here's my lineup for what will probably be the rest of the season:

I had accumulated over 200,000 coins so I had been looking to improve at SG and possibly at C with a C that is fast but most importantly has high REB and DEF. I had Elvin Hayes and was considering splurging on a high Shawn Kemp, but decided against it since it wouldn't have been much of an upgrade over Hayes. Free was great at SG with high SPD, FIN, and over 80 for 3PT. but his DEF was lacking so I searched high and low, and was considering getting legend Kevin Martin but I saw this 85 Rice and knew that was the one. I think I dropped around 200,000 coins for him.

Great lineup! I just haven't been able to get into LUT this year. I've wanted to, as my previous posts no doubt indicate, but I just can't get motivated. I look at the Challenges, and they just seem like a string of repetitive games.

New lineup after lots of painful grinding through Season 2 (LUT's grind this year is unbelievable). I still have 10 more teams to finish before the end of Season 2, but here's the lineup I've accumulated through grinding. I'm having quite a bit of fun using this lineup for the challenges.



The games (especially the Season teams) are very repetitive and often get boring. EA should incorporate more challenge entry requirements and special teams to face like in LUT 18 to spice things up.

It's weird with how this year there are multiple versions of players so sometimes I have to wonder if it's worth the cost of upgrading. Like my 84 Marion to the 85 Marion. Usually not, but it's fun to look

Snagged him off the AH earlier today. Usually when I get around 100k coins, I only search in the 87-89 OVR range or higher (make sure you do that, because EA decided to categorize ALL players above 74 in gold instead of additional ranks), and keep looking out for players that catch my eye.

This went for 150k yesterday too. One of the best deals for me yet.

I used to think LUT had the right idea keeping it simple with only three ranks, but I'm going to have to give it to MyTEAM's approach.

It may be against the ToS but from buyers point of view - same time you need to spend over 200 dollars to get same amount boxes with LUT coins. At this situation ToS benefits company, not consumer.

No question that that isn't a good or fair practice either, but all the same, two wrongs don't make a right. We don't want to be a party to that here, same as our rules against piracy and hacking to cheat online, so please don't post those links anymore.

This is my best lineup. I have only used community market to get my favorite player (AI for only 24k coins). Other cards came from gift backs or earned packs. Also have bought some boxes but maximum 4-5.

Final team. Looks like the mode came around towards the end but it was already way too late. Leaving the best rewards for each promo behind a $100 paywall was ridiculous and I'm suprised it didn't get called out more.

Yeah that is bad. Definitely worth calling out, and something I'll probably have to touch on in future features about LUT. I was too put off by the mode this year to get into it and see nonsense like that going on.

I think they probably decided they could cut some costs if they didn't pay fees for everyone's portrait. I know a lot of playoff cards dont have them.

It reminds me of a glitch in MyTEAM a couple of years back where the portrait would get replaced by an in-game render.

I played today nine short challenges after a ~2-year hiatus, totaling my profile up to 10) Got several free but decent EA packs. It was nice. The open market is full and rich. Sadly, there is little to no interest in getting them all. Players can barely be distinguished by their go-to moves: I've got Westbrook (he is ok), but Chris Webber, George " the Iceman" Gervin, more are the pieces of plastic. Also, I was turned off by off-the-charts ratings (it was discussed in the NLSC podcast on the example of 2K's MyTeam): the likes of R. Hamilton rated at ~60, while E. Kanters are available at 85 with a 82 3p rate)
