Talk about NBA 2K18 here.

The Game Awards:
@nba2k Congratulations on your nomination for Best Sports/Racing Game!
The responses to that Tweet, and the Re-Tweet by the official NBA 2K account, tend to disagree with the nomination.
Out of interest, with all things considered and taking into account our issues with the game, would anyone here say that NBA 2K18 is their sports game of the year? What's your pick for that distinction?

No comment. I don't want to risk warnings for what I have to say.

As long as it's on-topic and you're not attacking other people for having differing opinions, there shouldn't be a problem.
Also keep in mind, "I didn't like any sports games this year" is a completely legitimate point of view in a discussion like this.

Madden 18 out of the sports games I've played. It is far more realistic graphics and gameplay wise than NBA 2K18. The presentation is better as well.
The disconnect between the reviews, how they make it look like they are great, and how they are actually received by a decent portion of the population, is very apparent.
Metacritic score and user score is the perfect example. NBA 2K18 in my opinion is just not a good sports simulation, graphics or gameplay wise.

Well, can't say I don't like any sports games this year. I like The Show a lot. Play it quite a bit. I also have FIFA which I think is better than NBA 2k. I also have EA NHL which I also think is better than 2k. So right there are 3 games I would rank above 2k. Don't have Madden. I have no idea what other sports games are out there.

Well I think a lot of the reasoning for the award has to do with reputation and its recent run, and not particularly this year's game
I mean, I've seen quite a bit of (what seems to be) legitimate gripes about basic fundamental stuff in this year's game, but it could be from just a lack of competition. Not just in basketball gaming, but sports and racing games as a whole

I'd say NBA 2K18 is a disappointment. Whether or not you're comparing it to NBA Live 18 or any other sports game this year, it feels like a step backwards in key areas. Then you've got the lack of goodwill on top of everything else. With all that in mind, lauding it with Game of the Year awards - to say nothing of the gushing reviews that barely touch on the core aspects of the game - seems pretty ridiculous.

batman arkham knight should have a better chance of winning sports game of the year then nba 2k18.dont think ive ever seen the same amount of bugs being released every year in any other game then nba 2k and the blatant ignorance of fixing any of them.

PS3 version is the worst 2k I've ever played. Only reason I bother with it is there are no updated rosters for 2k16.

Isn't the gameplay basically the same at 2K14 for the PC?
They don't try on last gen because they want people to go out and buy this gen. It's a shame.

In all fairness, by and large the userbase is predominantly on the current generation, so last gen isn't going to be a high priority. Still a shame it doesn't get a little more attention, or a significant price reduction.

The nomination is made without any regard to the quality of the game. It's on autopilot.
Sports Game of the Year is a marketing gimmick.

I mean... How many sports games came out this year anyway? NBA 2K, NBA Live, FIFA, PES, Madden, WWE, MLB, NHL.
All of which are big series that would automatically get nominated for "Sports GotY".
Wed Nov 29, 2017 9:19 pm
Of course. It was bound to be nominated, so that's not a surprise. With that in mind, I posed the question in the first post as to whether anyone would go ahead and pick it as their Sports Game of the Year, or argue that it deserves to win. The prevailing opinion seems to be that it does not.
Wed Nov 29, 2017 10:26 pm
Yeah... I mean that is a hard one. I haven't played any of the other games yet, so it wins by default.
On the other side I just checked an I already have over 100 hours of playtime (and spent exactly $0 on microtransactions), so I arguably got some good value out of it after all.

If it were the only sports game, it wouldn't be sports game of the year. It's unplayable. Anyone, at any time, can get to the basket.
