PC requirements published

Sat Sep 09, 2017 7:58 am

As I was checking Steam store I noticed NBA 2K18 made it to Global Top Sellers category - so it's not doing too bad (though I'm guessing a lot of sales that happened now are from Russia or China as the gray market sells those).

Anyway, also saw that 2K18's store page was updated and contains hardware requirement.

Minimal:
  • OS: Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 (64 bit version)
  • CPU: Intel i3-530 or AMD Phenom II x4 805
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • GPU: nVidia GT 450 or AMD HD 6770 (both 1 GB of VRAM)
  • DirectX: 11
  • Storage: 70 GB
  • Additional: Gamepad recommended

Recommended:
  • OS: Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 (64 bit version)
  • CPU: Intel i5-4430 or AMD FX-8370
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: nVidia GTX 770 or AMD R9 270 (both 2 GB of VRAM)
  • DirectX: 11
  • Storage: 70 GB

So naturally, some notes...
Nothing too surprising, compared to 2K17 there is literally no change in OS, CPU, RAM, DirectX and Storage departments.

What changed are GPU minimum requirements. In 2K17 they listed nVidia GT 430 and AMD HD 6450 as minimum GPUs.
To be fair though, if this change is worrying you, you should put the money towards an upgrade instead of a new game anyway.

I hope this year their game is optimized for the Nvidia Cards since I've already preordered. My GTX 970 FTW is already outdated but it should be able to spank some ass when it comes to sports games. Last year, 2K17 spanked my ass since day one with that AA stuttering issue which had me set it to 1 or 0. You get used to ugly edges after a while though.

Did you try forcing AA through drivers instead of game itself?

Though I do not remember game ready driver for 2k17, that one might've been on nVidia.

Yes (I assume nothing changed). There is an issue with aspect ratio when you try to play in full screen 16:9 on 21:9 desktop res, but that can be resolved by switching to 16:9 desktop res.

Forcing AA through the NVidia control panel actually made some of the jersey details and stanchion logos ( mods used ) look very neat.
The edges of players and other big objects, the lines on the court, the dornas, the actual stanchions and pretty much everything that had a model with edges looked ugly. The only way you could upgrade/downgrade the visuals on those was via the in-game setting and the difference was definitely noticeable. I am also running the game on a basic 60Hz monitor, 1920 x 1080 resolution.

There hasn't been a game ready driver for 2K17, not in the driver's notes at least. Nvidia Gefore Experience does give you the option to optimize the game since like March and I wasn't surprise to see I can run the game maxed out in their opinion. I just hope for the better.

If you want to read more on this matter, here is an entire thread about it: viewtopic.php?f=224&t=102193
Basically, the OP had a great computer with an GTX 980 TI and couldn't max out the game. He had to upgrade to a GTX 1080 TI + i7 7700K @4,8ghz + 16 GB of expensive RAM + an SSD to be able to push that AA level to 4.

Recommended gpu with only 2gb?

I thought that was odd, I would have thought that would be under minimal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 2gb for the GPU can only get the textures to Medium on 2k. Atleast that's the way it was with my brothers computer with his NVIDIA card.

I used to run 2K16 maxed out with a 3GB of VRAM back then. If you don't think there will be any big graphical difference this year (I don't from the looks of it), I guess 3 VRAM should do it for anyone that wants to be sure.

Has anyone noticed the steam store page for 2K18 stopped showing the release date? And the promo pictures below for the different editions of the game don't have the mention of getting it days early anymore.

Are we still getting it Sept 15th? I wonder...

I'll only be fine with a delay if it can actually run decently this year. The graphics on this game shouldn't be as demanding as they were in 2K17 where early on most cards couldn't even run properly with the crowd on. I wish 2K hadn't locked Leftos away in a cellar so we could at least know what's going with the game and share our issues with the game like we could for 15 and 16.

I don't think they will push the release date forward with 5 days before the early access release, only for one platform. The shitstorm would be huge. I believe this is some steam temporary error.

Couldn't agree more. He was constantly active on this forum, collecting data and information from users. For 2K15 and 2K17 the team managed to fix those stutter issues in a couple of months with our help. There must be a logical reason why he wasn't active for 2K17 but I hope he makes a return.

I really hope they fixed fucking performance. 2K16 ran buttersmooth at 144FPS but in fucking 2K17 I barely got 70FPS during Gameplay and it did not look any better!

That's odd. I have similar specs (except just a 1080, not Ti) and I can run the game at 4K maxed out.

He had a GTX 980 TI before the 1080 TI. Maybe it's just the 900 series.

21:9 made a huge difference for me in gameplay. I'm a pass-first PG and I was able to see the entire court far ahead to make pinpoint passes (using broadcast cam). So sad that I'm being forced to go to console (damned cheaters). No SSD. No ultra-wide support. Crappier graphics and lower res. Even the XBOX One controller feels flimsier than the XBOX 360 controller.
