Forced Drives

Fri Oct 27, 2017 1:22 am

Hi all,

One thing that really bugs me about this game is forced drives. So many times I will attempt to take a mid range shot (Say, 15 feet from the hoop), and I will get sucked into driving animations. It completely ruins the mid range game, does anybody else find this to be a problem or annoying?

I went back and forth with Kingpnp in the demo thread about the control aspect of 2K and Live (He has since disappeared after the game was released). I stated that I absolutely felt that I had more control in 2K17, and even in 2K18. This is what I am talking about. I feel like I can't do what I want because I'm forced into animations. It's like being constantly forced into that reverse layup animation, or forced into floaters, etc.

I am blowing out the CPU every game, so it has nothing to do with being bad at the game or losing. It has to do with not having control of what I want to do. I'll be posting a video later of me pummeling the Raptors by 30 in 5 minute quarters, but it would have been 40 or maybe even 50 if I hadn't spent the second half of the game experimenting with the mid range game, only to be forced much of the time into drives I did not want.

Have you adjusted the sliders? What level are you playing on? Superstar?

As for the drives are you shooting with the right stick or shot button? I find that if when driving I pull the right stick away from the basket and hit the shot button it usually does a fade away of a one legged shot.

I want to pull up for a jumper, it shouldn't be a fadeaway or a one legged shot. I should be able to choose.

I use a mixture of the right stick and the shoot button.

When I play on exhibition I play on the hardest level, obviously on MyTeam I don't have that option.

My other contest is the reverse layups and other animations I am dragged into. I should only do a reverse layup when I want (Like in 2K, when I push the joystick towards the out of bounds on the drive). Whats insane is: These forced drives into multiple people on Live that I don't want, I hit a good majority of the time. Or if they force me into a reverse layup INTO the defense, I find some way to hit it the majority of the time.

I have not messed with sliders to fix the mid range issue, because it's a gameplay mechanic issue I believe. That is how I view it.

I agree on the reversed layups, it's bad enough with the guards but I hate to see big men doing it

They could have atleast added more of a variation in them. Like a few more animations. It's that strange wrap around one like 90% of the time, I don't think Ive ever seen a player shoot one just like that either.

And I agree, very odd to see the big men do it. Tyler Zeller looks like an athletic beast when I drive with him, with tomahawk dunks and flying acrobatic layups.

The problem is mainly if there big man ends up with the ball with the shot clock running down they will never shot jumpshots they always try and drive. After playing alot of Live 16 I have to give EA credit for getting rid of so many of the bad animations that mainly effected big men.

A lot of times when I get passed the ball at the top of the key it's annoying when my guy automatically dribbles toward the basket. I can't have time to catch and survey or catch and shoot

I think it was ThaLiveKing who suggested that it could be an issue with the gather zone being a little too far out, a little too generous. If that's something they could patch to allow for more pull-ups, it'd help some.

I've noticed a number of things that begin to suck me into an animation that I don't want to be going into.

Trying to dash from the top of the key to the sideline rarely works because for some reason my player takes a couple steps toward the paint (with my stick pointed to the left or right, depending on which way I'm trying to go) before I can get control of him and move him to the sideline. That is just one example. I call it the "magnet affect". It did it in the last version also.

What l found to be a bit of a problem is on the defense end of things. For example a player like Russell Westbrook can go coast to coast despite me trying to get in front of him you just bounce off of him as he drives for a dunk. Also there is a particular shot at the baseline where the player jumps and throws the shot up with one hand and it always goes in. Lastly, the post defender pushes you out of your post move back down animation into a jump shot. It's the strangest things l have ever seen.

By the way there is a Youtuber by the name of JPB The Creator his sliders are pretty good! reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kOBF84iGlE

Funny, NBA Live 10 has the exact same problem. I played a full 48 minute game last night, and I kept trying to pullup with Nash, only to be sucked in anywhere from 15 feet in.

The problem probably is the gather zone. One of the knocks on NBA Elite 11 was the "rocket dunks" that would trigger too easily and from too far out. Not the only issue with Elite 11 of course, but obviously another example of a familiar problem.
