Companion App Is Out (Share Your Scans!)

Sat Aug 05, 2017 12:48 pm

Ahead of the demo coming out next week, the NBA Live 18 companion app has been released for Android and iOS devices, allowing you to scan your face. If you're on Android and still have the NBA Live 16 app installed, uninstall it first to avoid any issues.

There's no hair selection options within the app this year, but a wide variety will be available in game. Feel free to share your scans here!

It looks like I just woke up... because I pretty much did. I woke up, saw a tweet from Prime about it and logged into the app. Took a few scans to get one I was happy with, but I was pretty happy with the end result.

If I have to play as a 19 year old rookie, I'm probably going to have some Thon-Maker-esque suspicions about my birth certificate. Might have to sculpt that jaw line a little more as well.

Some good results there. Going to give mine a try tomorrow. Still debating whether I want to trim my beard back to a goatee.

Wish we could add hair in the app so we don't look the mugshots of some stupid KKK gang

Agreed, shame they took that out this year. Suppose it'll all be there in the demo.

Haven't seen any nightmare beetlejuice type ones yet which is a good sign

Wow these are all great face scans, I wonder do they come out as good in-game though. I might have to try this myself.

They came out pretty well in 16, so fingers crossed they're even better this time around.

Not a fan of the black lines under the eyes, but I'm going to wait and see what it looks like in-game before I re-scan. I believe the overall scan is better than Live 16. I don't see a lot of 'burnt" faces like most had with the last scan app

Not compatible with my phone for some reason (HTC One M7, latest version of Android). Maybe my camera isn't high quality enough.

I had an M7 a year ago, and even then it was on the older side. I currently have an M9 and even then it's at least 2 years old. I know they have a 10 and maybe 11 now.

The template head type on which the made face scants is applied on is much too fat, but otherwise I can't complain (Y) . Much better result in comparison what I was getting on pc through app which supported nba 2k17, where likeness to myself was like distance from earth to moon.

For some reason, it's made my eyes brown when they're blue, but for now I'll take it over a generic face.

Had to scan a few times. Lighting was too much at first. then I kept picking white skin tones so then I had to try twice more at skin tone 4 before I got something I liked

Overall, I can see the amount of detail in these scans after quite a few attempts and seeing your scans here. I like how they accounted for heavy facial hair for some of you.

Haven't seen it in game yet but my scan from 16 was pretty good but I hope the higher level of detail from this year's app will really make it look great in-game

Alright, adding the blonde in-game beard style filled in what didn't show up properly in the scan, which usually is the way because my beard comes through blonde, even though my hair went brown in my teens. Apart from the eye colour being off, I'm reasonably satisfied.

For some reason it says downloading scan in the game but then it just goes back to the normal icon and doesn't actually download my scan but it's there on the app.

Maybe your EA account isn't linked to your PSN account

If that was the case would it say downloading scan if it wasn't? Frustrating me greatly.

Did the scan upload properly from the app? It seems a bit clunkier compared to the app for 16, but I can confirm that it does indeed work. Took me quite a few tries to get a working render, though.
