Periodically I have been taking breaks from working on 2K19 conversions and giving stuff like 3D hair on converted players in 2K17 another look. Today I was able to add 2K17 Nikola Vucevic's hair and apply it to the Brent Barry converted from 2K18 that you had me polish up the textures for. I have yet to try adding hair from one 2K17 player to another 2K17 player but I would be absolutely shocked if that did not also work. I will try and see if I can convert 2K18 hair along with a player as well.

NICE!
Super helpful. Any chance you can do a quick tutorial on how to do it? This helps a lot, I could bring Neterovics 3D hair over from 2K18 of that works, or add another players hair that's comparable.
I'll be making a younger Drexler for the 86-87 Blazers as well, so a small amount of 3D hair will look great. That will also help me being over players like Bob Love who has 3D hair, I could use them for the all time teams roster/draft roster.
So after I rollout V2 of this roster, I'll release updates for my draft roster and all time teams. Does anybody have the links for the rookies from 2017? I have Tatum, but I'm missing Kuzma, Fox, etc etc. The top 10 or 15 and Kuzma would be sufficient for those rosters.

It looks like converting 3D hair from 2K18 will work. It looks good in Blender, but I can't test in game until later tonight. If anybody wants to give it a look that'd be awesome, but otherwise I will. Here's the files, the Nesterovich mentioned earlier who will need his 3D hair converted along with him:
face6173.zip
png6173.zip
The only thing that is off that I saw is the first UV map for the hair, it isn't ruined or anything but it's horizontally stretched wider than it's supposed to be. You'll know what I mean when you see it. But it's very possible it's just a result of human error as I was doing it in the hex editor.

**John Crotty. Not sure how I ended up doing John Crotty instead of Nesterovich lol.

This is another big discovery. I will wait for you to share the info about converting 3D hair from 2K18 to 17 but if it is not too hard to pick up I just may go back to 2K17 full time.
The biggest thing that was stopping me before is the fact I couldn't rookies like Luka Doncic converted due to hair.
Edit:
I just realized this means we can now transfer hair from other 2k17 models also.

Yeah, the hair find and the teams with under 13 fix are really important. I wish I had known both two years ago.
Certainly more motivation to continue forward with updating my rosters and getting out new releases. Nice to see a few people still interested in 2K17.

Just thinking about it, we should be able to transfer facemasks also with this method

Yep this applies interchangeably between 2K17 and 2K18. The same will apply to facemasks, goggles, etc. from either game. I'm going to give a shot at converting 3D hair from 2K19 for the hell of it. Those files are essentially the same as in 2K18. It's safe to say that converting facial hair from 2K19 is a no-go because of the change in those files.
No need to worry too much about learning info on how to do the conversions. It's been easier than I thought to code something that does as much digging as the tool needs to. Despite the difference in the different types of files between the 2 games, they are navigated through the same way. It is already able to read any of the files mentioned for either game. Should be able to automate the entire process.

Back to modding this game full time.
Almost 100% done with the 86-87 Blazers, afterwards finishing up the 00-01 Bucks.
I read a post on twitter that stated "why are you playing the games you don't want to play, do what makes you happy". Which resonated with me, as I had been trying to move onto NBA 2K19 even though I wasn't enjoying it, I was doing it because I thought I should or had to.
Settling back into 2K17 until 2K20.

Nice. I'm looking forward to playing some 2K17 as well. I'll have to get back to 2K19 conversions since there are a lot of people keeping tabs on that, but after that I will definitely be playing/modding some 2K17.
I have a tool that automates the entire process of converting/swapping 3D hair for 2K17 between two files. I went ahead and made one since it will save you guys a lot of time as well as myself. It's done just need to finish up a window with some basic user interface, then I will release as soon as I can. This short little clip below gives you an idea of the speed at which you will be able to do it.

Almost perfect

Wow! Surprised and glad that this is still alive, Dee! I just got back to playing 2k17 recently after I watched a game you uploaded in you youtube channel. I also like the gameplay of 2k17 and I like the CFs I have for this game better than 2k18 and 2k19. Since the regular rosters are not updated, I was playing with your Classic and All time team rosters so I'm looking forward to this update.
I don't know if it is just me but I can no longer connect to the 2k servers for 2k17. I just want to check if there are updated rosters there.

good looking Drexler.

Hey matmat,
2K17 servers were shut down at the end of December. I'll be releasing a roster file for V2 with instructions on how to install. I work 40+ hours a week, so sometimes it's hard to find time to put work into the roster. Not even including CF work, jerseys, logos, floors etc, it takes like 5 hours or so to do the players ratings, sigs, tendencies, etc. I don't take shortcuts with that stuff.
With that in mind, I'm basically done the 86-87 TrailBlazers, and I 100% finished the 03-04 Grizzlies and 02-03 Wizards.
Working on the 00-01 Bucks, 66-67 76ers, and the 09-10 Suns right now.
When it's all said and done, those who still play and love 2K17 will have a lot of new content to sink your teeth into.

The 00-01 Bucks home jerseys need to be made, so Ill have to tackle that.
Not 100% sure the 66-67 76ers jerseys are in the game, if not I will need to make those as well.

Thanks for the info, Dee! Really appreciate your hard work on this, looking forward to the release of ver. 2!

Some good efforts there! The 2002 Celtics would be a good choice, kind of a forgotten team.

Thanks.
I don't really like the Eric Williams, only from the side. I need to edit it more.
The Jackson I like.

Hair add/swap tool is still coming, just been busy the last few days and haven’t had a chance to work on it.

Great!
Ill need to use it to fully convert Billy Cunningham over to 2K17 from 2K18 (he has 3D hair in 2K18).
66-67 76ers will be in the V2 releass.

I'm looking forward to it, but also afraid to damage my 2K17 profile adding an offline roster

It was super easy to do for my brothers computer. It didn't hurt his profile at all.
He just created a roster, exited the game and went into the 2K17 save folder. I gave him the UCTR roster file, and he went into the save folder and deleted the roster he just created (Example, Roster001), and renamed the UCTR roster file I gave him to Roster001. When he went into the game and clicked on the created roster, it worked perfectly. It's just a roster file.
It worked for my all time teams and fantasy draft rosters as well. When I release, I'll make a video showing how to do it.
