So now Youtube is going around deleting and revoking monitization from any channel that uses gameplay footage, Not just the crappy lets plays, Including actual journalistic reviews as well and deleting videos that are well within fair use.

So far it looks like Angry Joe, Cr1TiKaL, Nerdcubed, Boogie and a few others have just posted rants and keep posting videos, WatchMojo has been banned, And ClassicGameRoom has moved off site, It's almost like Google is trying to see how far they can go before they can completely kill off Youtube.

Has Jao gotten and Content Id matches from his 2k/Live videos?

It's funny, I'm seeing a lot of "Get a real job!" comments lobbed at some of those folks or accusations that they're "crying" or "whining", but I couldn't disagree more. It seems to me they have some legitimate complaints and as for the "real job" stuff...hey, if people like Angry Joe have been able to build their channel/shows up to the point where producing online content is a viable job for them, I say good for them. I think that's awesome and in the grand scheme of things, not much different from anyone who takes a chance on being self-employed/freelancing.

There are two issues are play with YouTube right now. The Content ID one that many of the bigger YouTubers have been affected by is a "nothing" issue, as in it is the same shit just at a larger scale. For those that haven't watched many entertaining rants on this, audio or visual content that is automatically matched to YTs database gets flagged, this was recently expanded from movies, shows, and songs, to general gameplay and other tags for games. These content ID matches can be easily disputed and will usually go away after doing so.

When I joined my network they were very upfront about me avoiding these automatic IDs. So I straightup remove the jukebox file, remove any traces of music in my slider settings, and on Next Gen just mute audio when needed (2K14 does this for me ). Thankfully 2K and EA have not attempted to create a database for general gameplay afaik, but I'm sure if I used trailer footage or similar cutscenes that something would popup (yet Shady does this, so I don't know for sure).


This bigger issue for me that is still up in the air is the difference between affiliate and managed accounts while under a network, something that I hope will be resolved today.

Tons of hits like that though, saw on Reddit someone created their own Apple BASIC game and it got flagged, despite being completely original. It is just a really shitty sounds-a-like looks-a-like system.

What’s happening on YouTube is important because this content is valuable. YouTube users aren’t just “personalities” to be swept under the rug. Many of them are doing work as legitimate as what myself and my other "traditional" press colleagues do every day. It’s just easier to regulate what’s happening on YouTube because it’s not considered press, and there are tools to manipulate what’s happening. That's not right.
