Boss.

Kelsey Grammer is Thomas Kane, mayor of Chicago and political king of Illinois.

He's been diagnosed with a progressively debilitating illness that will leave him a vegetable in the long run. At the same time, his political foes are launching their greatest assault on his kingdom.

Boss isn't The Wire, but it's as good as the political drama in The Wire. However it is ultimately about one man and his political empire rather than the failed state of a single city.

It starts slow to establish the characters but then ramps up into great, awesome and finally epic territory as the eight episode first season progresses. The show offers up the public perceptions of all characters before revealing their private reality.

If you're sane and buy in to the plot and thus make it past the boobies and other sequences that may tar the solid start you'll be rewarded with an ultimate drama of "holy shit" moments in the back half.

I've heard complaints that the show isn't realistic. That it's too farfetched. These are people who know nothing about Chicago or big city politics. The show underwhlems the reality. Even someone as squeaky clean as Barack Obama had all his opponents systematically kicked off the ballot when he ran for State Senate. Almost literally, every Governor of the state in the last 30+ years has wound up in jail. As late as the 1980s and 1990s the city politically fell apart along racial lines.

That's how you do things in Chicago. That's not absurd, that's reality.

Grammer is incredible, Nielsen may be even better as his wife. The entire ensemble brings assets to the table.

And maybe the best opening credits ever. Or at least since The Wire.

Your choice of punishment needs to be seen as fair, proportional and reciprocal. But the nature can only be decided by the punisher himself.

Satan, your kingdom must come down.

I really like this show. Been a minute since season 1 and I'm waiting for season 2 to end so I can watch all of the season in a couple of days.

Also Hannah Ware is such a hottie.
