Decent, but cheap headphones

Postby rise on Fri Nov 25, 2011 2:09 pm

Well, my earbuds broke (the original iPhone earbuds suck dick anyway), and I'm looking for some good quality HEADPHONES that are good for rock/metal. I don't really want to spend more than $50 or $60. Any suggestions?

I have a pair of AKG k-44's that are pretty good. I don't know how they stack up against other headphones but they're within your range and they're good for me. Comfy as hell too.

Your best bet is to read reviews on the net. Just search something like "stereo headphones review" or "stereo headphones guide" and you'll have all the info you need.

I like what I've read about the k44, and I'm still looking around (I've been google searching basically), but I really like those. Thanks!

Koss KSC75 are the best sound quality for that price by far but they are like clip on things and let a lot of sound out so not so great for wearing in public. I've got a pair of Alessandro M-1s that are great for heavy music but they cost $100.

This site helps me out a lot;

Based on what they say I'd go with the Beyerdynamic DR235's. THey have them for $70 but you can probably get them cheaper elsewhere.

I've a;ready looked at the headphones.com website, it's been pretty helpful.

I don't really like those clip on headphones much, I'm looking more towards the kind of thing Nick posted about.

Qballer: I've been through about three pairs of Gummy's. I'd probably just buy and keep a pair of those anyway; the wires are super-flimsy and rip apart, but are decent backup earbuds. I might actually have a pair lying around, but I'm really looking for a pair of headphones not earbuds.

Anyone know anything about Skull candy uprocks? I've read decent reviews and stuff but i wanted to know if any of you guys know anything about it.

I listen to music A LOT. I think the Gumys get messed up because they spend a fair bit of time in my pocket.

Skullcandy headphones in general are awful. They look cool but they sound terrible.

Also that website isn't headphones.com, it's headphones.com.au... completely different site.

My friend has a pair of uprocks, I listened to them, I actually liked them and my school bookstore has a good deal on them (like $20), so I'm probably getting them.

I'll check out headphones.com.au before I buy though. Thanks for the help. :D

I have a Shure SRH440, and for the ~$50 CAD I paid, am very pleased with them. A little more laid back than I'd prefer, but very good midrange, bass, and overall solid build quality. I'd recommend them if you can find them for under $70.

Yeah, my school bookstore had a great deal on uprocks, so I bought them, and I enjoy them a lot, whether I'm walking to class, or just chilling in my room.
