Best Racing Game for PC?

Postby bowdown on Wed Nov 23, 2011 7:15 pm

Hey guys. I really havent played a racing game in a long time. I am looking for a racing game for PC to get a fix. Which one is your favorite and why? The game should be around atleast 3 years old or so.

What kind of game are you looking for? Sim? Arcade? Rally?

Personally, I liked Burnout Paradise.

i want one with a bit of realism but not really slow and boring. I have seen burnout paradise videos and the racing looks ridiculously fast paced. So much so that I am like is this even driving or just gliding over the top of asphalt with unrealistic speed.

It's pretty much a simulator. That's how fast cars go in real life. Look at the damage and compare it to Gran Turismo 5. Crash into a wall in Paradise at 200 MPH, and your car explodes. Crash into a wall in GT5 at 200 MPG and your car just bounces back (if you've put the 200-300 hours into it to get damage though, your bumper might slouch a little bit for the rest of the race).

Big Rigs is another one worth looking into.

You need GRiD or a DiRT game, and luckily for you, they are all on sale on Steam right now for 50% off

GRiD Thread here - viewtopic.php?f=23&t=56748
http://store.steampowered.com/app/12750 ... _259_103_5 - $7.50

DiRT1 - $5 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/11440/
DiRT2 - $10 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/12840 ... _151_150_1
DiRT3 - $25 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/44320 ... _259_103_1

Or you can get DiRT 1 & 2, GRiD, and FUEL all for $22.50 - http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4060/?snr=1_5_9__403
FUEL is an OK game, HUUUUUGE map, racing is meh, but this mod makes it playable - http://www.moddb.com/mods/fuel-refueled

I would recommend getting Grid over the rest, but the racing pack is a good deal. Those four games will keep you busy.
Opinions are my own.

Jao, Thanks for doing the digging. I am interested in Dirt series, but which one would you say is more fun. Dirt 2 or Dirt 3? Can you state some major differences you noticed from the two? Which has better driving? Just the major differences. Thanks. Oh and also which one has better car selection too? :)

car selection goes slightly to Dirt 2, but Dirt 3's DLC was nice. Dirt 3 has waaay better multiplayer with some really fun gametypes other than racing. Cat n Mouse, Capture the Flag, Infection, etc.

Dirt 3 has Gymkhana, think freestyling cars. And it has better circuits than Dirt 2 IMO. Dirt 2 has better point to point races though, but not by much.

The driving is basically the same, 3 is the overall better package than 2, IMO.

if you want some more specific questions, just ask while watching these

Im gonna go for Dirt 2 for the cheapness if the core gameplay is is pretty much the same. (Was gonna buy the cheaper one regardless hehe)

Hey Im having fun so far Dirt 2. But have you ever played Flatout 2? Dirt just reminds me a lot of it visually.

There's also the ultimate test of gaming in the Desert Bus Simulator in:

The newer version is just a bad console port, that's why.

Flatout 1 is the best, IMO, just crazy, no special shit. Skip Flatout 2 and go right to Flatout Ultimate Carnage. It's the same game as 2 with a few more cars and a lot better graphics (360 port instead of PS2)
Opinions are my own.

I already have played Flatout 2 a few years ago. It just feels a bit same to me :P

Flatout 2 is so underrated. It had such nice lookings graphics and physics and yet ran so well on my shitty ass intel chipset back in the day.
