GTA V

Wed Oct 26, 2011 6:10 pm

According to this Rockstar Propaganda e-mail I got, there will be a GTA5 trailer out on the 2nd of November. Interesting.

Really? That's awesome news (Y)

Definitely interesting, though I have to admit GTA IV didn't captivate me as I hoped it would, indeed I haven't touched it for a couple of years. The same thing happened with GTA III where I got stuck, restarted a couple of times and ultimately ended up finishing it some four years or so after I got it, so that's not to say I'll never pick it up again and at least make a run at finishing it but I didn't get into IV as I did previous games.

My preference for V would be for them to cut out the dating and socialising mini-games, or at least make them completely optional with less impact on the main story/missions. I definitely like the GPS feature introduced in IV and the re-try mission options. If they're not going to allow saving at any time, then being able to re-try missions from certain checkpoints would also be nice.

Well I was so itched to play IV back in 2007, yet I still haven't got my hands into it.

I don't want it to be like Saint's Row, but the big thing is that this game shouldn't take itself too seriously. I loved some of the realistic aspects of GTA IV (the controversial car handling, the now dated but then authentic graphics, story grounded in reality, etc.) but variety and fun factor should take precedence over story and edgy quasi-realism.

Color me excited. This is great news.

I'm hoping for awesomeness (and the rumored March 2012 release date :P )

Agreed, I think that's part of why I couldn't get into IV as much as I'd hoped.

Superb news. There were rumors of the story taking place in Europe -- not an European character. That would be interesting.

Actually, most of the rumors so far are referring to a setting in California. Given that GTA IV had Niko, it's pretty unlikely that they would go with this type of character again.

Stand-ins for New York, Los Angeles and Miami have served the series fairly well so far, so I'm inclined to believe the LA/California rumours.

Maybe they will go with a female lead character.

i didn't even know you could date in GTA IV until after i finished the main storyline

IV and San Andreas had one or two missions that show the basics of the dating or other mini-games but never forced you to revisit them if you didn't want to, iirc.

That's probably what I'm thinking of. Guess I haven't played far enough into the game.

Actually, what annoyed me more in previous games were the turf wars in San Andreas and the empire building in Vice City Stories.

The best thing about GTA IV was that you never had to control an RC Plane

No but your cell phone was constantly going fucking off in mid-carnage or on your way to do other missions etc. It was annoy as shit. If you want to give me sidequests, dont interrupt me or keep fucking with me. Let me say "ill do it later, fuck off and stop asking"

Re: GTA V

Ah yes, that's what I was trying to get at. I preferred the approach of the GTA III era games, aside from the aforementioned turf war and empire building.

GTA V will be set in Los Angeles - YES!!!!!!!!

I hope Rockstar brings back the fun and wackiness that made the PS2 GTAs(especially San Andreas) so great.

Me too, Jeffx.

The prospect of more than one protagonist is interesting as well.

Re: GTA V

I wonder how big they will go, and what they will call the city if they stay the fictional route. Will it just be San Andreas again?

Re: GTA V

Sat Oct 29, 2011 1:41 pm

I'm guessing they'll go with San Andreas or another stand-in moniker.

Re: GTA V

Sat Oct 29, 2011 1:57 pm

Well, LA was Los Santos in GTA San Andreas I believe, so they might go with that again.
