J. Cole - The Sideline Story

Fri Sep 30, 2011 6:14 pm

Just thought I'd start a topic for this album just to see if you all love it just as much as I do. I will go as far to say it is the best Hip Hop album I've heard all year. I guess I already knew J.Cole was dope but this album reminded just how dope he is. :D

Can't Get Enough is my favorite. the beat is just mind-blowing. apparently Lights Please has been out for a while, but it's my first time hearing it and that's a close second for me. I do like a lot of his Friday Night Lights stuff though. i'm a sucker for good samples

Lights please never gets old. It's been out since 09 but I still like it just as much as when I first heard it.

a good album, yes, and J. Cole flows better than most artists, but i think Goblin is album of the year, followed by Talib, The Throne, and Smif n' Wessum (yes, i never get old of them)

I'm sorry but I'm not a huge fan of Tyler, The Creator. I think he has a nice flow but he's a little too weird for me. I do like Earl because he puts the "ass in assassin" :) . I wouldn't know much about Talib's album or Smif n' Wessum because we don't listen to those guys in the South although I do know of Talib's talent as a hip hop artist. But for now The Sideline Story is my album of the year unless Drake's album proves me otherwise.

I like Tyler, the Creator more as a producer rather than a rapper. He sticks to a certain subject matter:

I wear green hats, cuz i'm a GOBLIN
I never saw my dad, but he must be a GOBLIN too
you're beautiful, wanna check out my basement?
WOLF HALEY GOLF WANG!

it sounds uniquely weird, but your human side would not give you an easy time stomaching his lyrics. as for earl though, he is the best rapper in OF, hands down. free earl, damn it

I wouldn't know much about Talib's album ... although I do know of Talib's talent as a hip hop artist

i couldn't blame you. Gutter Waters wasn't really a much celebrated release, sadly.

It's not that we dislike them well some people do which I think is stupid. It's just that we don't hear them on our radio stations that often which is why people listen mostly to the hip hop artists based on the region or city they reside from. People from New York are more likely to listen to East Coast artists. People from LA are more likely to listen to West Coast artists and the same goes for cities like Atlanta, Houston or New Orleans. We are more likely to listen to "down south rap." this doesn't apply to artist like Nas, Jay-z, Kanye West, Drake, The Game, or J. Cole. Everybody likes them.
