American Reunion

Postby Andrew on Wed Sep 07, 2011 11:16 am

For anyone who is/was a fan of the original American Pie trilogy, they're doing a fourth movie where the class of 1999 (ie the original cast) returns for their high school reunion. The entire original cast returns, or at least all the main characters.

I didn't bother with any of the straight to DVD spinoffs/sequels but I'll be checking this one out next year. On one hand they might've gotten all the mileage they can out of the characters and the jokes but the setting is, to reference the first movie, the "next step" or next stage of life, the first three having chronicled high school, college/first year out of high school and finishing college/getting married. As someone who will be ten years out of high school next year, the concept appeals to me and if it can have the same heart as the first three APs along with some good jokes, I think it could be a decent film if you're a fan of the originals.

I don't watch too many movies but I'll probably check this out. I didn't watch any of the spinoffs, but I loved the first 3, with the original being the best.

I completely forgot about my 10 year high school reunion. They sent me some address verification that I had to send back, but forgot.

I ended up seeing one of the spinoffs. It was really bad. Other than a bunch of bouncing naked tits.

No photos of Shannon Elizabeth and Natasha Lyonne in the booth is fail.

In other news, Tara Reid finally got a job after that botched one!

It says on this Wikipedia page that they'll both be in the movie though. No Shermanator :(

He is on the cast list on imdb, though. Maybe he got the cutting room floor.

I'd personally say she was the designated ugly one by virtue of the character/story but for me Alyson Hannigan has never been hideous. Of course, I've become a much bigger fan of her since I got into How I Met Your Mother.

I wouldn't say she was the ugly one, more that Shannon Elizabeth was the really hot one.

Fair call. At the end of the day, I'd say all four of the female leads were unquestionably hot at the time.

I'm guessing the new film will carry over a few hallmarks of the originals. As such, it seems safe to predict that:

- The grossest thing in the film will happen to Stifler, as usual
- Jim will at some point find himself in an embarrassing situation
- As Jim's Dad, Eugene Levy will have some of the film's best lines and delivery, probably in the form of some well-meaning but misguided advice
- Since Jennifer Coolidge has signed on, the saga of Finch and Stifler's Mom will have another chapter

Trailer.

Sounds like Jim's mother has either passed away or divorced Jim's Dad. I'm also guessing there'll be a subplot revolving around Kevin contemplating cheating on his wife with Vicky and ultimately deciding against it, leaving high school in the past where it belongs and all that. Looking forward to it.

i'm completely dreading mine, but i'm still 3 years away. recently at work we've held 2 high school reunions and it's funny because we had Lakewood's Mayfair HS class of 2001 and Josh Childress was there

I don't think they're as common over here as they are in the States, plus Facebook kind of facilitates a virtual high school reunion these days. However, I've heard rumours that a few of my former classmates will be organising one next year.

Yikes... mine is in 2013... that is surprisingly soon.

On the topic of the movie, it looks pretty cool. Loved Stifler's reference to Twilight

It's crept up awfully quick.

I enjoyed that Stifler moment too, very true to the character. We can assume that things didn't work out with Michelle's sister, which is fine by me. Much better Stifler's character this way.

Caught it last night and I'd have to say, pretty good. It's up there with the originals, I wouldn't say the best of the lot but well worth seeing if you liked the first three movies at all. It's a solid follow-up chapter to the saga and very funny in its own right. As you might expect, Eugene Levy has some hilarious moments as Jim's Dad, his delivery and comic timing is as immaculate as ever.

Going back to my predictions, leaving them as spoiler free as possible:

The grossest thing in the film will happen to Stifler, as usual

No actually, though he does get his share of humiliation at times.

Jim will at some point find himself in an embarrassing situation

Of course! Not the most iconic example in the series, but it was funny.

As Jim's Dad, Eugene Levy will have some of the film's best lines and delivery, probably in the form of some well-meaning but misguided advice

And how!

Since Jennifer Coolidge has signed on, the saga of Finch and Stifler's Mom will have another chapter

Not in the way I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing.
