Well guys, about six and a half years later I reached the 10,000 post plateau. Honestly I thought I might not get there at times. Sorry in advance for the long read, I know many will just flick quickly & say congrats but we're all busy, so I understand
Not many people know this but I had actually started come to NLSC way back in 1997 when Tim and Lutz ran the show. I even corresponded quite a bit with Tim to give him tips to improve the NLSC rosters. The main purpose of my visits back then were to get NLSC roster updates as well as any other major patches to improve Live ’98. I think back then I was in some off-line non-sim leagues when you played your games and export the stats files and e-mail them to the league commissioner. Those were the good old days. I remember guys like Method from Perth who was an Odom fan from his one year at Rhode Island and a Shane guy from Melbourne who I think liked Kobe from memory (who didn't?) and had blonde tips (the fashion back then). I even did rosters using Tim’s editor tools for one non-sim league in particular. Fun times indeed (for a dork that is). I should've realised by then, if I hadn't already, that I was destined to waste too much time in alternate realities to the real life NBA (i.e. dynasties, Associations etc).
Anyways, I stopped coming to the NLSC gaming community after Live '99 as by that time I had finished high school, moved out of home at 18 and went through my next few years of uni without a PC. I didn’t own a PC again until after I had moved from New Zealand to Australia (in 2002) after I finished university & started my Masters in 2004. Once I had a PC that was capable, I couldn't help myself and I picked up Live ’04 after being disappointed in all the offerings of Live on PSX and PS2 between 2000 and 2002. They just didn’t match up to the graphics and customisation of the PC version (of how times have changed

). I picked up roster patches and other stuff for Live ’04, but shortly before getting Live ’05 I noticed a little section called the ‘Forums’. I checked it out one day and stumbled across the Dynasty section, saw some of cocobee's creations and I’ve been hooked to it ever since (well moved across to Association section now). If memory serves me correctly, it took about a week for my registration to be accepted and I had to send Andrew a private e-mail asking how much longer the registration process would take and he promptly accepted my registration after that. Did it take anybody else a week to get accepted on an internet forum? Must have been an exclusive place I guess
A lot has happened since I joined the forums back in 2004. Firstly six and a half years have passed. As many of you older hands will know, a helluva lot can happen over this time & your outlook on life does change. Anyways, over that time period I have bought, sold and bought another house, met, dated, got engaged and married to my wife, changed jobs and more recently my beautiful daughter came into the world. Throughout all that time the one constant has been the NLSC. Why am I telling you all this, who knows? Maybe because there’s no guarantee I’ll get to 20,000 or 25,000 posts (my next major milestone) since you don’t know what curve balls that life will throw at you. Even if I am here, it doesn’t mean the a lot of my current NLSC breathen will.
Anyways, enough of the biopic, this can be the last time I rehash all that. Time for some shoutouts, X-style. Your current NBA comparison based on your posting styles, NLSC longevity etc. I’m just going to do an Elite 8 (in no particular order) in honour of March Madness. Actually, real reason there is only eight because I got to that number and gave up as too time consuming. I hope some of you continue the NBA comparisons for other posters
Andrew – Dirk NowitzkiHad to put Andrew first as without him the community wouldn’t be as strong as it currently is. I actually originally thought about putting his comparison as Tim Duncan, but The Big Fundamental’s game is starting to slip a little bit so it’s not an apt comparison since Andrew’s hasn’t.
Like Dirk, Andrew has many good, productive years ahead of him, if he wants them that is. Both are somewhat underrated at times. Both were thrust into leading roles in their NLSC/NBA careers at an early. Both have had their doubters, but they have both never wavered from their cause.
I don’t think Andrew has been engaged to an ex-con cougar though
If you’re ever in Brisbane, offer is still open for a beer (my shout of course). Happy to drink a couple of brews & talk basketball/Live any day.
Random hope: I wish Andrew would do a Bulls’ Association on 2k forums rather than continue with his Live ’99 or whatever PC version he uses. Maybe with PC 2k12, one can hope
Jae – Kevin GarnettI couldn’t really think of anybody for a comparison (granted I didn’t think too hard about any of them

) so I thought about the guy who is happy to punch a white guy if they annoy him (in Jae’s case white = Pinoy). From memory, I don't think you like KG that much, so feel free to flame me or give a NBA comparison for me that I won't like
Jae seems like he’d be a standup sort of guy IRL. Won’t say too much more here, but Jae’s done a shite load for the NLSC community since I've been here.
Random fact: We both were fans of Cedric Ceballos and the circa 94-95 Lakers. We both like teams before they get too successful and then leave them once they sell out (e.g. signing Shaq, trading away Ced Ceballos, trading for Kobe, getting rid of Eddie, Nick Van Quick etc). We are reverse bandwagoners in a way.
Sit – Kobe BryantSit’s gonna love this comparisons, but maybe not for the same reasons that I am giving it
Both are polarising lightening rods. You either like them or you don’t, there are no inbetweens. Both started their NLSC/NBA careers as talented but brashful youngsters. As they gained more experience they became even more polarising to other members of NLSC/NBA as they became more arrogant because they knew they were good. Now they have both matured, become slightly less polarising by focusing on the things that they succeed in (Sit – Dynasties/Associations & away from General Talk; Kobe – on the court, not in a hotel room from behind. Leave that to shadow).
Sit and I are now mates IRL as a result of NLSC, so you can’t say the site has no tangible benefits. I called on him when the Fighting Irish (my old social bball team that I had running for 5 years until recently) were short on numbers and needed a token Asian (and a point guard). He played for the great franchise for about 2 and a half, maybe 3 years & was good to see his game improve over this time.
Random fact: Sit kept me out of jail on my Bucks’ Night thanks to his quick talking when the piggies had me in handcuffs (long story, no need to get into that one this time). If it weren’t for the NLSC I would’ve been in lockup to end my Bucks’ Night and had like Brendan Fevola, had a public nuisance charge to my name.
dragon@4Q or whatever the heck his NLSC name is – Joe SmithDragon is another member of NLSC that I know personally who also added much needed height (6’7”) to the Fighting Irish cause. I forgive him for not making it to our first semi final in a season when we realistically had a chance to win it all, even though Sit never will
Sadly I don’t think we’ll hear much from Dragon anymore (I’m sure there are more than a few of you who are happy about that though) since NBA Delete died and the former Live franchise is no longer produced at EA Canada.
Comparison is for the sake that as a poster, he had potential, but probably never fulfilled it. I think he did a bunch of patching but that’s not how I know him.
Random fact: Funnily enough even without NLSC, we only have one degree of separation. My wife actually knew him and went to his 21st back in the day. Who knows, I think he might’ve even have had half a chance if he hadn’t of gone the easy route, with her more easy friend
Mark. – James PoseyLike Posey, my fellow Kiwi and Cantabrian Mark is more or less gone from NLSC. He’s a sentimental favourite around the dynasty sections for a few of the vets of that section. Was never the great poster he could’ve been in dynasty and general sections due to real life prioritisation, but that is understandable. Still capable of making key contributions like our man Posey.
Random fact: He’s played against (and beaten) my high school basketball team. After I left of course, otherwise result would’ve been different
Lamrock – Gilbert ArenasLamrock is a definite favourite around the place, for me at least. A bit of a jokester who started out very young. Like Gilbert, he started with a bang and made a big impression around the forums/NBA. Just like Gilbert, both have/are going through darker times and that is reflective in their posts/gunplay. I hope for the best for both Lam & Gil, although life seems to have beaten them both down. Look at the bright side of life, it's the only way.
Random fact: I think Lamrock knows more about my Hall of Fame (shameless plug) Live ’05 Bobcats Dynasty than I do.
Jeffx – Ray AllenThey’re both long-time vets who are often forgotten but command instant respect when they decide to show their game. Jeffx is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to NBA & I hope he continues to stick around.
Random fact: This cat enjoyed watching Bird vs Magic and remembers the last time the Knicks won a title. I'd prefer one Jeffx over 100 Heat bandwagoners.
Benji – Steve NashEverybody loves benji stats. Without him I might not know that Basketball Reference even existed. As a closet stats geek myself, I can appreciate his epicness in this regards. I also like his wit, even if it flies over most people's heads most of the time.
Don’t know why I put Nash as his comparison, maybe it’s just for the fact that both don’t take themselves too seriously and are witty. Both are also intelligent and articulate. They both make everybody around them better just by their presence on the court/forums.
[i]Random wish:/i] Career statistical analysis of Cedric Ceballos and John Wallace.
Anyways, will end on that note. Hope you guys continue the NBA comparisons for all the guys that I didn't get around to doing.
Thanks to NLSC, hope it sticks around well into the future
Cheers,
X
