Newbies Guide of FranchisesHello all. I thought since we are trying to attract new GMs t the league I would compile a short NLL daily on the current franchises with a brief background on their history in the league and where they currently are.
L.A Clippers
The L.A Clippers have had a fairly similar performance in years to Golden State. Having regular winning seasons followed by a slight blip every few years. However the Clippers were starting to finally turn a corner and change from playoff hopeful to contender this season as they are currently fighting it out for the Pacific Division with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns.
There is a good reason why this franchise is doing well recently in the West and that is due to the great trio of Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant. If these three can perform well together then they could easily set the playoffs alight and truly challenge for the conference title.
Not only do they have a talented trio but they also have Jon Scheyer who in my eyes is one of the best role players to come out of the recent draft. With him helping with the scoring and a nice amount of caproom this team if managed properly can be taken to new and improved heights.
The Clippers are a nice playoff side who can contend for the Western conference for many years to come.
L.A Lakers
Surprisingly the Lakers are probably the lesser L.A team in the league. Apart from a nice period about three years ago the Lakers have always been bottom dwellers with GM’s coming and going and no real direction. Last year’s performance only saw the franchise achieve 27 wins and this year is going a very similar way. Leadership greatly needed.
The current roster is not very deep and the teams current franchise man Gilbert Arenas is not good enough to hold that title with the way he shoots the ball. The only real upside player on this roster is Pondexter who is going to be a solid role player at best and not a true leader. However there is hope that with a GM this franchise could make another quick transition. Holding three first round picks this year including their own in a deepish draft the Lakers if they select right could have a nice young starting five this time next year. Add to that a nice bit of cap to add a few solid vets or another young talent and L.A could finally become a franchise that is in the playoffs consistently.
New Orleans Hornets
A franchise that this time last year were the new kids on the block. Achieving a playoff status for the first time in five years. A young roster that this year were supposed to be back in the playoff hunt, hopfuly securing a higher seed than last season.
However things have not gone too well and they are now facing a lottery pick (which isn’t too bad considering they hold their own pick). The roster has a really nice blend of older guys and younger guys who are all ready and hungry. A real nice tandem down low with Hawes, Bosh and Clark could provide great ammunition and presence. Add to this Felton and Ponkrashov backcourt with Ariza as the glue guy and this franchise does have a nice future. Probably short of an out and out scorer but this is something they could add in the future.
New York Knicks
The Knicks in recent years have been in one of the tightest divisions with a lot of talent across the whol Eastern conference the Knicks have always been in a playoff hunt and had a solid roster to support the case. Last year saw a three headed monster of Brand, Kobe and Billups who were supposed to push the Knicks over the top. However things have changed drastically recently as they previous GM (rightly so) decided to take this franchise into a full rebuild mode and the fire sale began to acquire picks and youth.
Clearing cap and acquiring picks has come at a cost as the Knicks are now thin on future talent and now have limited options going forward after the acquisition of Kevin Love as the new franchise man. Love will need a careful GM for the future to help draft neatly and pick up some solid players through free agency to help get this franchise back to the top. Probably the most challenging situation of the free teams.
