Snowed in

Postby Axel on Tue Dec 28, 2010 7:00 am

How many people here are snowed in from the blizzard that just hit New England? I know here in the Southeast, we had 10 inches of snow and I can't even make it up the driveway with my car.

:chug: :chug:

Here's to staying in and getting drunk tonight! First place I went before the snow storm hit was the liquor store.

wuss

we got well over a foot and we've been running errands all day. the snow drifts from the wind were about 6" high on the main already plowed roads and I had to get my 2000 Taurus through 2 different "barriers" from the plows only doing the main road.

screw gettin drunk now, get a shovel, go to the store, then get drunk

just an FYi, 1 foot of snow =/= blizzard

wow, usually 1/2 an inch of snow = ice everywhere cuz we have like two plows in the entire state of NC, so we're goin' nowhere for a couple days. This time, 6 in. of snow, no ice = people going places.

To get to my parents house, you have to drive on a winding gravel road up the side of a mountain. There are no snow plows and no salt on the roads. I'm the type who will drive regardless of the road conditions except when I have to park at the bottom of the driveway and walk 300 yards uphill in ice because the car wont make it. I face more barriers just getting out of/into my driveway than you do driving around the freshly plowed New England freeways. Shoveling snow is a joke. Our driveway is enormous and would require a snowplow in itself (most rural housing down here is like this). Damned Yankees always trying to act like they know something we don't about driving.

Fyi, a blizzard is a heavy snow storm with intense gale force winds. They aren't just determined by pure snowfall totals like you described.

From a fellow North Carolinian...

That's snow in the south for you. I live in Raleigh, and I heard they got 8 inches of snow. We got around 10 inches here in the mountains though. The Atlanta area even received a good bit which is pretty rare.

I have "in-law" family in NC and they were complaining about it and evidently they have a "normal" driveway. A 300yard uphill both ways driveway is a good excuse for not shoveling.

Do they live in the mountains of NC?

Anyway, this is pretty much the first time in a very long time we've had pure snow without a half inch of ice underneath. When that happens, Charlotte's fucking dead. Nobody gets anywhere.

Sorry about the two week bump, but how many of you guys have been impacted or will be impacted by the gigantic snowstorm in the east US right now? Charlotte schools are out Monday through Wednesday, possibly the rest of the week. How bad is it for you guys?

big deal going on that every state, except florida, has fresh snow somewhere in it right now. (Hawaii has some on top of some volcanoes)

some of Kathryn's friends on Facebook were claiming that there is never any snow anywhere in California :facepalm2:

Meanwhile, I'm stuck in my house with my parents telling to constantly study for midterm exams. "This is a golden opportunity to study hard and for a long time". Study hard, my ass. When I'm not studying I'm either shoveling the driveway to get two inches of solid ice off my driveway so I can actually go somewhere or being lectured by my mom about why studying is important.

I live with the 'rents too...but its not the end of the fucking world man. Close your door, have the book open in front of you. Proceed to do other shit. Hear footsteps or the doorknob, pick up the book.

Problem Solved. You can fap, read comics, play video games. Just gotta be smart about it
