Pittsburgh Steelers Franchise (Madden)

Tue Oct 19, 2010 5:04 am

I'm going to be doing a Pittsburgh Steelers franchise, just like my Washington Wizards Association here http://forums.nba-live.com/viewtopic.php?f=92&t=74371&start=0

I'm going to be using Madden 08 PC with updated mods for this since I don't have a console, nor will I ever buy one.

I will skip the pre-season games and go straight to week 1 against the Falcons, I hope that some people will read this since it's a basketball forum, ah well, let's see if it gets views lol.

My Sliders will be: 13 min acceleration ALL-PRO, with some sliders adjustments so me and the cpu dont throw for 300 yards and 200 rushing yards each game.

Not my favourite team, but good luck with it.

A new start in the Steel Town
Posted by thatwizardguy on Sept 10 2010

Radio flickers on...

Radio Announcer "Good morning Western Pennsylvania this is Buck and Jerry comin' at you with Steeler football radio, nine twenty-nine on your dial, it's friday morning and we all know what that means, it's only two days till Sunday afternoon, the day that our Pittsburgh Steelers bring the blitz to the Atlanta Falcons, who want's to talk Steeler football, I'm on the line ready for your calls."

"Hey Buck, this is Janette from Shadyside, this recently new coach Mike Tomlin, well, he's got himself a lot of pressure right now and there's a lot of expectations on him and what the heck is going on there, you've got a disgraced quarterback, you've got a news crew following him around every step around the facility, every step of the pre-season, who does he think he is Chuck Noll? He's no Chuck Noll, not even coach Cowher, he's none of them right now."

"Well Janette let me tell you something, he has stepped in and won a Super Bowl for us, but last year's meltdown has got us all thinking, Is he really the coach that we need, his contract's up soon, we traded Santonio Holmes away, we lost to the Cleveland Browns, it didn't look great last season."

Radio fades away... Janette: "Well we are getting Troy Polamalu back, he's the best defensive player in the whole of the Nation, Ed Reed doesn't come close to his ability now, he's injury-prone, I don't see all the hype with Darrelle Revis, hands-down when Troy get's back into the line-up and were still having these chronic meltdowns, someone's gotta go we lost to the Cleveland Browns forsake."

Admist all the distractions of the 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers offseason, the Steelers will get ready to take on the budding young superstars of the Atlanta Falcons in the opening weekend of the regular season. After the Steelers started the the 2009 regular season with a 6-2 record and boasted the #1 ranked defense they soon crumbled as they lost five straight sending them out of the play-offs, including losses were the Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns, all who had top 10 draft picks this spring.

The Steelers will start the season as underdogs against the Falcons, Titans and Ravens before getting their star quarterback back from suspension. Rashard Mendenhall will carry the offense on his shoulders as the defense will try to repeat their 2008 feat of having one of the best defenses recorded in NFL history.

Steelers get ready to face the Falcons
Posted by thatwizardguy on Sept 10 2010

Storyline...

The Steelers are known for being the bird killers, the Steelers defeated the Seahawks, 21-10 in Super Bowl XL, ousted bitter rivals the Ravens in the AFC Championship game two seasons ago and then went on to defeat the Cardinals in a thrilling Super Bowl victory that delivered them a best in the NFL a sixth Lombardi Trophy.

Now they will face the Atlanta Falcons, even though they open up as the home side they will be under extreme pressure to perform, particularly their defense, which let them down so badly last season after giving up various leads in to what can only be described to Steeler fans as "forgettable games" in a season filled with injuries, agony and high-expectations.

Now they have vertually little to no expectations by other fans of the NFL as they will start Dennis Dixon sunday against the Falcons. The Falcons come into this game under third year quarterback Matt Ryan who is poised for a break-out year and Michael Turner who is coming back from an injury last season.

If the Steelers are to win...

• They will need to get back to their 2008 defensive form, where they surrendered only 237.2 yards per game and allowed just 3.9 yards per gain over 974 scrimmage plays, last year they dropped to allowing 305.3 yards per game and 5.1 average respectively.

• Rashard Mendenhall will need to carry the offense on his shoulders, if he does not play well or does not produce long gains and touchdowns, it could be a long month for the Steelers, Mendenhall looked decent last year, but he will need to have career highs if the Steelers want to go above .500 without Ben Roethlisberger.

• Forcing Turnovers. The Steelers recorded just 12 interceptions last season, 3 were from Troy Polamalu who played in just a handful of games and Ike Taylor recorded just one interception all year long, at the end of week 17. The Cornerbacks need to be in the 2008 form that gave up just 156 yards per game, if they don't turn things around, goodbye play-offs for the season.

If the Falcons are to win...

• Don't rush Matt Ryan into the game, the quarterback has yet to see a complex defensive system in his young career, let him get comfortable and feed Michael Turner the ball early and often to take some of the pressure of the quarterback.

• The Falcons will need to display some good defense today and restrict Dennis Dixon to doing anything at all, if they can make the Steelers offense one dimensional and play 8 in the box when Mendenhall rushes the football, the Falcons could win based on turnovers and field possession.

• Special Teams. The Steelers were putrid on special teams last season, if the Falcons can use that to their advantage with their solid returns, they may not need any offense as long as their defense can keep Pittsburgh's offense out of the endzone.

After sixty-minutes..

The Atlanta Falcons should wriggle their way out of this one, but barely as the Falcons will take this 12-9, Ben Roethlisberger's absence already weakens Pittsburgh by that much.

RECAP
The Pittsburgh Steelers have found the perfect formula to win without their star Quarterback: Run the football well and play some smash mouth defense. Although the Steelers passed for just a grand total of 63 yards, Rashard Mendenhall trounced the Falcons with 115 rushing yards. Matt Ryan couldn't stop throwing interceptions all day, William Gay intercepted a deep throw in coverage and on the next drive stripped Turner of the ball just short of entering the redzone.

STOPPED STONE COLD
It's not that the Falcons didn't look great running the football, perhaps the Steelers were just too good at it, Timmons collected 10 tackles and assisted in allowing just 2.8 yards per carry from the Falcons backfield, Turner rushed for 71 yards and a fumble.

DYNAMIC ROOKIES
Emmanuel Sanders, a third round 2010 draft pick from SMU returned a kick off 94 yards to put the Steelers up 14-3.

RUN RASHARD RUN
Although Mendenhall fumbled the ball twice and did not score a touchdown, he was instrumental in moving the chains for the Steelers, Mendenhall gashed the Falcons defense for over 100 yards and took a 4.4 average out of the game. The Steelers offense was incredibly run orientated (44 rushing plays to 17 passing plays.)

STEELERS DEFENSE
The Steelers defense looked like a much improved unit from last seasons horrors and looked more like a better defined 2007 unit that almost matches the skill level of the 2008 defense. The Steelers allowed just 257 total yards (3.6 average per snap.) James Harrison and Lawrence Timmons brought Matt Ryan down in the backfield and Troy Polamalu as always was everywhere recording six tackles. The Steelers will face Chris Johnson and the Titans in next week's clash. Did I forget to mention, they forced seven turnovers.

SOUNDBYTE
"Were not going to back down, were going to play solid defense like this all year, our guys (Timmons) set the bar on what we are going to achieve, were going to go out in full force, were going to run the football hard and were going to win football games." - Mike Tomlin on the post-game press conference.

COMPARING THE QUARTERBACKS
Dennis Dixon 10/17 69 yds 1 TD 1 INT 63.1 RAT
Matt Ryan 22/45 199 yds 0 TD 4 INT 24.2 RAT

MAIN FOCUS: PITTSBURGH STEELERS (1-0) at TENNESSEE TITANS (1-0) at LP FIELD

As the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers travel to the The Volunteer State to face Chris Johnson and the undefeated Tennessee Titans, you have to wonder if this could be a potential play-off match up. Both teams dominated the league during the 2008 season, the Titans beat the Steelers that year 31-14 during the regular season, but the Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl and followed that up by beating the Titans 13-10 in overtime during the opening game of the 2009 season, the Steelers started 6-2 before losing five straight ending their play-off hopes and the Titans started 0-6 and finished 8-8.

Both teams have a lot of momentum coming into the game and it's any given sunday. The Steelers will need to shut down Chris Johnson very much like they did to Michael Turner, statistically in two appearences against the Steelers, Johnson has never done that well.

Other areas of week 2

• It's not surprising that the AFC North have dominated the statistics, the Ravens are ranked as the best defense in allowing yards, Steelers in points and the Bengals are the best offensive team throwing an all around in yards. The whole north add up to 10 spots of a possible 40, to my conclusion, will the AFC North be the most competitive division this year, all three of the big teams won big against their other opponents, who were all play-off calibre teams.

• Rex Ryan came into the season tipping his team -- rather cockily as the team to beat in the league despite being blown out badly by the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game the previous year, they get blown out on National T.V. to the Ravens, the Jets need to get the bar rolling as they face the Patriots this week.

• Despite Alex Smith's turnovers, the 49ers looked like a pretty decent team and with a top 10 calibe-quarterback, they would of easily dismantled the Seattle Seahawks, but until then the 49ers might not be able to win games when their quarterback turns the ball over like that.

• The best American Football Conference team looks like the Baltimore Ravens, whilst the best National Football Conference team looks like the Philadelphia Eagles.

Steelers 185 rushing yards leads them to 2-0 start
Image

Image 03 - 07 - 00 - 10 - 20

Image 00 - 06 - 10 - 03 - 19

RECAP
Even though the Pittsburgh Steelers blew a first half-time lead, the Titans blew two fourth quarter leads as the Steelers held Chris Johnson in check with an average of 1.9 yards per carry from 21 carries. Rashard Mendenhall rushed for over 150 yards and Dennis Dixon led a late comeback drive with 1:47 remianing that culminated in a 47 yard field goal by Jeff Reed to give the Steelers a 20-19 victory, and more importantly a 2-0 start to the season.

Blitzburgh Krazy
The Steelers were all over Vince Young and Kerry Collins today. Lawrence Timmons added 2 sacks to his 10 tackles, LaMarr Woodley recorded 3 sacks and James Harrison and defensive end Aaron Smith recorded solo sacks that brought the tally to seven.

TIME POSSESSION
By the end of the game the Titans outgained the Steelers in 30:15-21:33 and at half-time it was an even more lopsided 17:01-8:47, despite the large amount of clock time, the Titans managed to go without a touchdown and gained 261 yards from 77 snaps (3.3 yps.)

THE 38er
Rashard Mendenhall had a beast of a game which included a 38 yard touchdown run, but that's not to say the Titans defense didn't play well, because they did, but it seemed Mendenhall was their kryptonite, the Steelers third-year running back gashed the Titans defense for 151 yards on 29 attempts (5.2 AVG), other than that run the Steelers didn't do particulary well on the passing game, but even without Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers are finding ways to win and will face the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week where Josh Freeman has thrown 6 interceptions to 1 touchdown in the first two games of the season.

STATISTICAL STATS
The Steelers are now 14-3 against the Titans in september... The Steelers and Titans defense combined for a total of 116 tackles and 13 sacks.

SOUNDBYTE
"He just gave up," said Lawrence Timmons on Chris Johnson. "I don't think he's the best running back in the league, we swarmed on him like a pack of locusts, he is just not the player we all thought he was going to be coming into the game, if he played a lot better, well who would of known what would of happened."

2010 NFL Season: Week Three Preview

Published: Sept. 25, 2010 at 10:11 p.m.

Image

MAIN FOCUS: PITTSBURGH STEELERS (2-0) at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (0-2) at RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers at the Raymond James Stadium, where the Pittsburgh Steelers captured their sixth lombardi trophy in a stunning Super Bowl XLIII match against the Arizona Cardinals. The Steelers come into this game as one of the eight left remaining undefeated teams in the NFL this season. The Buccaneers will need to shut down Rashard Mendenhall who is averaging 133 yards per game.

The Steelers defense is always doing it's job giving up no offensive touchdowns in the opening game, but Dennis Dixon will need to throw the ball a little better than the past games (18 throws per game & 68 yards per game) and will get that opportunity against a Buccaneers defense giving up 18.5 points per game. The weakness of the Buccaneers is it's offense which has struggled mightily with 2nd year 1st round pick Josh Freeman at quarterback, and it doesn't get any easier with the Steelers coming to town.

Weekly Mailbag Questions & Answers

• I said last week that I think the AFC North is the most competitive division, out of 8 possible top spots on team stats, they hold five, and four of them are on the offensive side of the ball, which is weird considering it is a smash-mouth defensive division.

• The Patriots are going to struggle without Tom Brady who is out indefinitley, the Jets steamed past them and the Patriots looked really awful, the Patriots face the Dolphins, Ravens, Chargers and Vikings in the forthcoming weeks, and a few weeks later the Colts, Steelers and Jets, so they have a pretty hard schedule right now without their star quarterback.

• I said this all offseason that Chris Johnson is over-rated, unless the Steelers defense is just that good, Johnson is on course for a horrible year, he didn't even gain a 2.0 average against the Steelers, but he will get his chance to pad his stats against poor run defense teams like the Broncos, Jaguars and Eagles in forthcoming weeks.

• I'm convinced Lawrence Timmons is the best linebacker this season, he has made 2 pro bowl running backs look like third stringers and has 3 sacks to add to his impressive 10 tackles a game record.

MAIN FOCUS: BALTIMORE RAVENS (2-1) at PITTSBURGH STEELERS (3-0) at HEINZ FIELD

The Pittsburgh Steelers host Joe Flacco and the hated divisional rival the Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field. In what is mostly a defensive slugfest, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Baltimore Ravens 24-13 in January 2009 in the AFC Conference Championship en-route to their Super Bowl XLIII win.

The Steelers have done an excellent job at containing the run from Michael Turner and Chris Johnson, but now face a slippery Ray Rice who is averaging 86 yards per game. The Steelers have their own running back in Rashard Mendenhall for the Ravens to watch out for. This is the last game before Ben Roethlisberger is back from his suspension.

RECAP
Finally someone was able to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers -- and score a touchdown against them for the first time in 5 weeks -- and it doesn't get that much better for the Ravens -- Who are their most hated rival. Joe Flacco was not much of a factor passing for 130 yards, but the Ravens defense allowed just 225 yards all day and forced Dennis Dixon into four interceptions as the Ravens went on to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 13-10 at Heinz Field sunday.

LINEBACKERS
Two of the best linebacking cores came clashing against the offense today, the Steelers with the better defense halted Ray Rice to just 38 yards on 20 carries, McGahee also rushed for 30 yards on 11 carries with Lawrence Timmons spearheading the defense with 13 tackles. Rashard Mendenhall carried the ball 20 times for 46 yards, both running backs were pretty much a non factor as turnovers were the critical area of the game today.

POLAMALU
Although Troy Polamalu clinched just one tackle, he also picked off Joe Flacco and blocked a field goal early in the game to preserve a 0-0 scoreline. He wasn't much of a factor today, but he didn't need to be as Lawrence Timmons is playing like an extra safety in the mack position.

ROETHLISBERGER
Ben Roethlisberger will make his return in two weeks to face the Cleveland Browns, during the four week span Dennis Dixon has thrown just 3 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, that's not good numbers and with the return of their star quarterback, the Steelers offense will be thoroughly boosted.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has returned to the Steelers after violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Roethlisberger is a two time Super Bowl winning Quarterback, who will add a lot more flare to the Steelers, who's offense has been a
shambles this season through the air.

The Steelers were averaging 149.5 passing yards per game, and with Byron Leftwich and Dennis Dixon combined, they orchestrated 3 wins,
7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Steelers quarterback's rating of this season came to a horrid total of 59.6,
much lower than Roethlisberger's 92.0 career quarterback rating.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) are currently on their bye, but will suit up and host divisional rivals the Cleveland Browns (3-1) in next weekend's game.

MAIN FOCUS: CLEVELAND BROWNS (3-2) at PITTSBURGH STEELERS (3-1) at HEINZ FIELD

Jake Delhomme and the Browns come crawling into the city of Sixburgh to take on Ben Roethlisberger and the stingy Pittsburgh Steelers defense at Heinz Field. The Browns haven't been able to defeat the Steelers whilst Roethlisberger is in the starting line-up at Heinz Field.

Expect Mendenhall and Roethlisberger to have big games as the Steelers look like the most complete team in the National Football League this season.

Weekly Mailbag Questions & Answers

• Mark Sanchez is on pace to throw for 35 touchdowns and 4361 yards whilst throwing for just 12 interceptions... I still think Sanchez is over-rated and needs to face some tough defenses before given a full analysis if he is great.

• Tom Brady is back healthy, they went 2-0 without him, but with him they went 0-2... that brings me the question, is Tom Brady still the best quarterback in the league?

• Indianapolis (5-0), San Diego (5-0) and the Dallas Cowboys (4-0) are the only teams unbeaten, Tampa Bay (0-4) are the only team without a win this season.
