Region 4/PAL region issues and our bizarre aversion to an R18+ classification for games.

That is weak, guys...

for hosting the 2010 Winter Games trickle out, it’s easy to see how that city’s taxpayers could still be paying in 2040.

If anyone's lived in Canada, you'd know how tax system is keeping everyone poor here. When I was making good money, they literally took away about 50% of my income. Well... That's how medical system is all free, and those druggies on the street still can afford dopes, not to mention immigrants lined up for the welfare money at government office while they actually do have cash jobs.

Why do you hate poor people with medical problems, like a heroin addiction, that aren't their fault?

Of course, RRSP is helpful to certain degrees if you can afford it and actually that's how I started looking into stocks. Your RRSP money is pretty much is going to be useless by the time you retire, so to keep up with the inflation, stock pretty much is your only option. Interest from bank? Not enough. That's never going to catch up to the rising inflation. Some people would claim it's the safer way, but it's also the more beneficial way for the bank only. Besides, if the bank goes bankrupt, your money's also gone anyways. It's really unlikely to happen to Canadian banks though, so I figured what that meant is that your money is somewhat safer as stocks of bank then, or even some unbankruptable companies that are basically ran and protected by the government or even in natural resources. Anyways, RRSP money is pretty much untouchable once you put it in. That is unless, some major shit hits you financially, but then you still have to pay tax for taking the money out from RRSP account. It's a win win situation for the government only. On top of that, you only can put in so much depending on your income. The system here just makes you lazy. More and harder work you do, you are penalized with a higher tax bracket, unless you run your own biz and share the income throughout your family. There are ways out, but for a regular Joe like me, options are quite limited. But if you are willing to abuse the system, there's no better place than here. Many actually do and it just makes unfair for the rest.

And it's not only the income tax I am crying about. It's GST, PST now HST(higher than other provinces, if not the highest. Housing cost also was/is also known to be the highest in North America). And guess what, they went a step further and started taxing the dividends from stocks. This province is definitely taking a step back and there just aren't many major companies that are willing to invest here, thus crappy jobs and crappy professionalism.

My solution? I am still young and ambitious so get out to the real world and come back here for a retirement later. I have worked my butts off and was pretty successful at what I did for many years here, but I think I would have been a lot better off if I was at elsewhere.

I got another one. This.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called the Maguindanao massacre the single deadliest event for journalists in history. At least 34 journalists are known to have died in the massacre. In a statement, CPJ executive director Joel Simon noted that the killings, "appears to be single deadliest event for the press since 1992, when CPJ began keeping detailed records on journalist deaths." The CPJ further noted that, "Even as we tally the dead in this horrific massacre, our initial research indicates that this is the deadliest single attack on the press ever documented by CPJ."
Even before the Maguindanao massacre, the CPJ had labeled the Philippines the second most dangerous country for journalists, second only to Iraq.

And we're only second. For shame. The least thing to do is aim for number one. :shake:

Pinoys that are journalists. I smell Jae and benji's work behind all of this...

And now that massacre case on-court is slowly being forgotten. :shake:

The only thing I hate about Thailand is our political problem(s). You may argue that it exists in many countries, but the red shirt thingy is way more complicated than it looks/sounds. The situation right now is very boring and tiring. I got stuck in the worst traffic jam of my life this evening because those idiots closed the roads in order to protest.

This probably explains why I'm not on the RRSP despite the "advice" of my financial advisor. I'm interested in stocks, but they're quite a gamble unless I went with safe picks and a fairly large investment to make it worthwhile. A nice pension, however...

Yikes, that doesn't sound good. Move to your neighbour, Alberta, if you can get a good paying job. It's boring and infrastructure blows, but there's only GST here.
