Vertical jump exercises?

Postby wargreymon54321 on Sun Mar 14, 2010 6:03 pm

Where can I find vertical training exercises that are reliable and helpful?

Am I supposed to do squat exercises and heel raises to improve strength of calf and quad? Then, would I need to improve flexibility and jumping exercises to improve vertical? Am i right? Anyone that trained this could give me some help? Thanks!!

Play basketball everyday and just do some jumping every day.
I Wouldn't recommend stuff like AA3 cause it might even lower your jumping ability.

if your knee is already weakened plyometrics is a bad idea. should probably just play and adjust your game til that knee is back to healthy

As if this guy knows anything about legs!

Someone should let me know when I'm pushing it. It's just too obvious.

everyone's body is at a different point and everyone's body responds to different training. From what I've seen of Air Alert its a poorly planned plyometrics program that risks injury in HOPE of giving you more leap.

Just jump alot and you will get there. Nothing improves natural jumping ability then actual jumping.

Weight lifting actually helps a lot. I completed Joe DeFranco's 6 weeks vertical jump training program and I gained about 4-5 inches on my vertical.

There are loads of other good stuffs on his site as well.

Agreed on Jump Manual. Know a guy who's been on the manual for like a year and says he's gotten 12", which is crazy, because he had like a 36 to begin with. He's trying to get to 50" now.

If you don't want to get on any programs, train for explosiveness. Work on quads, hams, calves, and abs, do sprints, make sure your joints are okay, etc.

I wouldn't use leg weights if you intended on walking with them all day and not doing leg presses with them or something.
