- Official Licenses - confirmed series are IndyCar, NASCAR, WRC and Japanese Super GT, First time that Ferrari and Bugatti will be in a GT game.
- It's Beautiful - Photo realism, Completely redone engine, from scratch, nothing taken from GT4. Using roughly 500,000 polygons per car compared to 300 of GT1, 60% of development been on making the cars. Game will run at 60 frames per second in full 1080p HD without a hint of a jag or blur. Team took photos of plants, paving slabs and tarmac to make all tracks and environments perfect. All this will only use 80% of the PS3's power accord to Kazunori Yamauchi.
- Damage - Everyone of GT5's impressive roster of vehicles will be wreckable in some way. 170 'premiuim' cars will be fully damage-modelled but every car can be visually broken, with huge consequences for the internal mechanics. brake failures, loss of speed, slower gear changes will just be a few of the consequences. Premium cars is where the real visual treats lie, Kazunori promises not just pre-rendered visual changes - think burnout - but a fully implemented model which reacts to speed, force and angle of a crash and crumples and twists cars accordingly. Interiors will also be affected by crashes and will impair your vision in the cockpit camera angle.
- Environments - 70 circuit variations spread over 20 environments. Nurburgring makes a return, new tracks include Daytona speedway and Dunsford park which is also known as the top gear test track whcih even shows the replays from the same angles as the TV show. A track editor has been heavily hinted at. Dynamic weather and lighting changes for longer races.
- Nearly got 1000 cars - All cars will be accurately modelled and driveable come release. You'll be able to tinker with almost every aspect of the car inside and out. That means both paint-jobs and mechanical tweaks.
- It's innovative - Will have 3D with silky smooth frame rates and solid cars (like tiny 3D models) and crisp scenery. You'll need Sony's forthcoming RealD-Tech glasses (estimated £50-£100) and a 3D ready TV (Samsung offer the UK's only current 3D TV for about £800 but most manufacturers will have 3D TV's by summer 2010). 2 player Split screen will be included and will also run at 60FPS. Head tracking using the PSEye will feature. intergrated with cockpit camera, looking left and right will turn the camera in game. PSP connectivity is a feature, convert those portable credits onto PS3 game and be able to transfer your cars. You can also upload replays straight onto Youtube.com.

The entire Gran Turismo series has sold over 53m copies worldwide.
Gran Turismo is the #1 selling PS1 game ever with 10.85m copies sold.
Gran Turismo 2 is the #3 selling PS1 game ever with 9.37m copies sold.
Gran Turismo 3 is the #2 selling PS2 game ever with 14.89m copies sold.
Gran Turismo 4 is the #3 selling PS2 game ever with 10.76m copies sold.
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is the #1 selling PS3 game ever with 4.65m copies sold.
So the series is clearly one of the most popular among Sony console users.
Considering that the Need for Speed series has sold nearly double the number that GT has, but it has nearly 3 times as many games as GT.
And GT is exclusively on Sony consoles which makes the comparison even better for them considering NFS is also available on Xbox.
Given that it's been 5+ years since GT4, the anticipation for GT5 is immense. Looking at the list of features it is going to be worth the wait.
Especially now that the graphics are so real. Kazunori Yamauchi seems to be a perfectionist and it looks like that will make this game unbelievable.
Another reason it has the potential to be a massive hit is because car culture is one of the biggest things in the world.
For example, Top Gear is the biggest show in the world. 350 million people in 90 countries watch it. I wouldn't be surprised if they featured the game on the show after it's released. In one episode a few years ago, Jeremy Clarkson did a segment where he did a lap on GT4 in a Honda NSX at Laguna Seca, then tested to see how it compared to doing the lap in real life on the same track with the same car. Overall he complimented it for it's realism.
Then look at films such as The Fast and the Furious series. Over the 4 films it's made nearly $1 billion.
Basicly, within a very popular genre, this series is the best of the best. Who knows how many it will sell. I'm just saying it has the potential to be huge.

Like I said, the PS3 install base is 32-35 million. The best selling version didn't even reach 15 million after a decade out (80% of that time at $20) on a console with a base of 130-150 million.
Even Wii Play, despite being a $10 game and packed with a second Wii-mote, hasn't managed to sell through to more than a third of the Wii user base.
I have no idea why you'd think GT5 will sell to 60% of the PS3 user base. GT5 might sell 80% of its copies in the EU like GT5 Prologue did, but that's not enough to get it past GT3 or probably even GT4 because US sales will most likely be pretty poor for the franchise. The five year wait is also hurting it, a significant swath of the U.S. base went over to Forza and that hasn't exactly lit up the charts.
Of course, we're pretending it even comes out this year.
Cars in black have been seen in screenshots or have been confirmed by Polyphony through lists
Cars in red have been seen being photographed and tested by Polyphony for the purposes of modeling and may or may not be in GT5
Cars in green have been mentioned by magazines or in interviews as being in the game, yet have not been seen. Also may not be in GT5
Cars featured in the "Vision Gran Turismo" video which were new paintjobs.
Also note that this is not a complete list and there are still plenty of cars to find.

GDC 10: GT5 Will Release Before 2011
The saga of the Gran Turismo 5 release date continues, but at least Sony seems confident it will launch this year.
The first official date was March 2010 but as we all know, GT5 isn't scheduled to release this month. The new prediction has put the launch somewhere around the fall or early winter, but we've got a new update from Sony boss Peter Dille, who spoke during their GDC press conference about this subject. He said quite simply that GT5 will indeed be on store shelves before 2011; it's technically an "official announcement" even though it doesn't come with a specific day. Kazunori Yamauchi is one of the industry's most meticulous perfectionists and he won't accept anything less than a revolutionary driving simulator. Polyphony is also working to implement a few nifty new features, like 3D and GPS but really, the fans just want to see the final product arrive in stores. The good news is that Sony could definitely use a AAA PS3 exclusive for the holiday season; we got Heavy Rain and God of War III in the first quarter, but we definitely need another rush of exclusive goodness before the holidays hit. Wouldn't GT5 be a huge help...? Talk about important sales.
Right now, perhaps it'd be safe to assume that the game will release in November. That's a fairly safe bet; it's a strategic time for launch and racing fans everywhere are already drooling.

Sony Rep: GT5 Planned for October 2010
According to an Italian gaming site, a Sony representative at last week’s Game Developers Conference informed them the company was looking to release Gran Turismo 5 in October of this year. While GT5 received little attention at the show, Sony’s marketing vice president, Peter Dille, re-affirmed the game would release this year. Of course, October also fits nicely within the “fall” release window mentioned by European Sony executive James Armstrong last month.
This gives Sony plenty of time to establish themselves in the 3D television market over the summer, providing the platform to introduce GT5 as the technology’s “killer app” at the start of the popular holiday buying season. While we must be wary of this somewhat anonymous source of information, it lines up with everything else we’ve been hearing as of late. Time will, as always, tell.
