50K (and what would you do with $50,000?)

So here I am at the 50,000th post mark and try as I might, I couldn't come up with anything in advance. So, I'm going to have to improvise.

I know I do it at every milestone thread and given how many I've hit it's perhaps becoming redundant, but I do want to thank everyone as always for their support of the NLSC and of course everyone on the NLSC Team for making things so much easier for me. Without the efforts of the team and the support of the community, we would've ceased to be years ago. Thanks for sticking by us through the good times and the bad, I hope there are many more good times ahead of us. Please remember that the community, especially the Forum, is what you make it. The more people who make positive contributions, the more we'll get out of it.

I still think we have a pretty good thing going here, looking around the web the atmosphere on some forums is quite poisonous. I'd like to think that here we're a little more open to dissenting opinions and new members who are here to make the most out of the site. Let's enjoy ourselves, and most sincerely, thank you all again. I wouldn't be doing this after eight years and 50,000 posts if I didn't feel it was a worthwhile and enjoyable cause, but here I am, and I expect to be here for a while yet. So again, thank you. Thank you to my fellow NLSC Team Members, thank you to the regulars, thank you for sticking it out through all our technical woes from a couple of years back, thank you to the patchers, thank you to everyone who supports the patchmaking community, thank you to everyone whose enthusiasm for NBA video games (whichever one you play) and basketball help make this an enjoyable pastime for me. So...50,000. Let's try and put that into perspective.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone are the only other two players to play more than 50,000 minutes in their careers. The Mousterian Pluvial in Africa began around 50,000 BC. In Captain Comic, an extra life is earned every 50,000 points...apparently. I've never played it. A lawsuit over a Tweet sought $50,000 in damages. 50000 Quaoar is a dwarf planet candidate orbiting the Sun beyond Neptune. And Vodafone sold 50,000 iPhones in 24 hours.

And now we come to the interactive part of the milestone thread: What would you do with $50,000?

I'd probably hold back about $10,000 of it for my savings account and with the remaining $40,000: buy a new (well, new for me, probably used) car, nothing too fancy, probably in the realm of $10,000-$20,000...probably a Holden. I'd get a PS3, simply so I could import games I can't play on the 360 (or are PS3 exclusives) and watch Blu-Ray DVDs. I'd pick up a Derrick Rose authentic jersey, import a basketball system like this, book a vacation to the US where I'd take in an NBA game and visit the Basketball Hall of Fame, buy a new laptop, a handful of DVDs (nothing specific comes to mind at this time though) and the rest...you know, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, so I'd probably put it into savings with the first 10 grand. How about you?

Congrats these milestones seem to come along quick. Though I haven't done you much of a favour by disappearing as often as I do because it means your post count is now the only one in the realm of "holy shit" .

As far as what I'd do with 50k, my mum just got a $50,000 compensation payout the other day so I guess I'll know for sure when the cheque clears

My challenge to you is 20K by the end of the year. We could have a couple more people surpassing 10,000 by the end of the year and I believe a few capable of reaching the 5000 post plateau as well.

50k huh? I get the feeling i'd burn through it fast but lets see

1.Finish paying for grad school (this semester was about 4k for 9 hours..the total is 60 hours for my degree..so i'd imagine thats about 20k more bucks)
2. Buy all those xbox games i want to play but am too cheap to pay 60 bucks for (Mass effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Batman Arkham Asylum, GTA IV expansions, Tiger Woods, Bioshock 1 and 2, and of course an edition or 3 of guitar hero)
3. Go on a vacation with the girlfriend somewhere like Florida or something. Maybe miami or something
4. Buy the girl a new computer
5. Save the rest to pay for school or to get a place of my own in the near future.

My challenge to you is 20K by the end of the year.

That's about 6.6 posts per day for the rest of the year. I reckon it could happen, especially since I've got an association thread going.

With 50k, well, I guess, I'd go up to Vermont and buy a few acres of land and start building a house. Cause shit is that cheap up there. Probably go back to school, I dunno, I'd do boring shit with it after buying a 12357234858hz TV, all rockband DLC, and every variation of RB drums and Guitars that exist.......so basically I think I could spend it all on Rockband stuff.

50 grand would be nice to make a down payment for a badass house (currently house hunting), and maybe replace my crappy car with a less crappy one.

As for $50 000, I'd probably invest half of it, and the other half be used for savings/spending over a long period of time. Or a down payment on a house.

About the $50,000, I would do the opposite to what you did, save the 40 grand and spend the other 10 grand now, even I don't know if that much, as I haven't reached college yet and that could cost a lot. With that $10k I would probably travel somewhere, then buy some electronics related stuff, games, DVDs etc and also an electric guitar (I would suck at it, but still).

As for $50k, I'm thinking about $10k for my wife & I to head to Canada/Alaska for a holiday. Another $10k put aside for later for a Greece/Italy holiday for us. Probably about $5-10k spending on a new TV, some furniture & towards some home reno's. The remainder ($20-25k) would go onto the mortgage.

What I'd do with fifty though? I'd keep some, invest in stuff I'd need after school is over and stuff. Help my parents out with some stuff they might need, buy myself some clothes and stuff etcetera. Maybe actually invest in foreign studying after the ninth grade, something like USA or I don't know. Or maybe cash in for an expensive sports school, lots of options.
