Hip Hop/RnB

Wed Jan 20, 2010 10:58 am

I was looking for a thread that was just in general about hip hop and RnB. I thoguht there was one but couldn't see it so I've just started a new one. :)

Anyone a fan of Drake? I can't wait to hear his first album and seeing if he lives up to his mixtape work.

Cant stand most modern hip hop and R&B...we had a R&B thread someone started not too long ago. At one point though genre threads were given the axe i thought.

Not sure if it should be classified as hip hop or horrorcore, but I mostly listen Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko and stuff like that. Something more classsic as well - Immortal Technique, Mos Def, Rakim, Slaughterhouse etc. I hate most of the mainstream hip hop though.

Rakim's latest drop - Seventh Seal - is really not bad. For other stuff, I am really a classic guy. It's just like there's no real hip hop out there at the moment. I might have a shot at Drake, did not listen to anything of him so far.

Definitely give Drake a few spins... he's also been popping up as a featured artist in a few people's songs.

I know hova's view on Blueprint 3. I thought it was a decent album. Not super great but one of his better albums of recent time.

It's not like Blueprint III is a bad album. But it's only average at best imho. You said Hov had his best time some years ago ... well I don't think he is not capable of big raps anymore. It's more like his feeling for producers and productions has taken a hit. Or maybe he wants his LPs to be more pop-like, which I think many of his old fans don't like including myself.

I'm listening to Reflection Eternal right now and it's just timeless :)

Did you listen to Drake yet? :) I love Hova but I don't feel he's got it anymore. And I want to see if Kanye has anything more to offer.

Oh yeah I listened to him on youtube, some mixtape tracks. I really like this kid's voice and flow. Definitely someone to expect something new. His album will come out this year?

Yeah man. He's had some tracks get on charts in the States recently and also being getting featured on other artists' tracks. His first album will hit shelves this year I guess. He's good cause he can rap/sing... although he's got a few haters. One guy I met at a party yesterday called him 'all hype'.

But I will keep following, he's got talent.

Also can't wait for Usher's new album! Expecting some Confessions-caliber material!

I've been counting down the days until the release of Drake's deubt album since 'So Far Gone' came out. It comes out in about 2-3 months, and my expectations are really high for this. Also can't wait for Jason DeRulo's debut album, as well as 'Raymond vs. Raymond' by Usher. Anyone hear the song "More" being used in the recent ads to promote All-Star Weekend 2010?

The first I have to say is that the word "Hip-Hop" means the whole culture, not music. Hip-Hop IS NOT THE MUSIC, REMEMBER THAT.

If you want to listen the real rappin you have to check the Polish raps. Rap from this country sounds great. There are so many fuckin sick beats, rappers with insane flow and original rhymes. Do not say that the best rap is from USA, just find out something about polish rap. There are no talk about drugs, biaaatches and that the policemen are bastards and just fuck them. You need to forget about it, your music is the commercial shit, which you can see in idiotic television, it makes the people are stupider, they do not have any musical taste, they listen to that what they have seen in programms for the idiots. TV is manipulating you and you don't care. Your close friends are listening this sh1t so you need to do it too. Please show that you can be assertive and you will not go with stupid trends.

If you want to listen best raps you need to check the slavic rappers. They make rap because they love it, not for money, not for tv and radio, for people who are waiting for their albums, which are in the Internet. They have something better than money, bitches in music video and cars, which cost 1 milion dolar, they have respect from their listeners.

There are a lot of rappers from slavic countries.
Please show me that musical unification in your rap. Can you? I do not think so.

Polish underground is stronger than yours. You do not trust me? Just check it. I know that you don't know the language, but you can listen to it for checking that how it's sounds. There are lots of types rap. There is some ambitious rap for people who want to think about the text, there is some bragga rap, hardcore rap and bangers for parties.

What about the Kid Cudi album? I really like it and there are some decent tracks I still listen to. I mean it's like a bit crossover, no real hip hop but still lotta rap on it.

Rap is only about the beats to me now these days and how the song flows.
BTW dont you just love when you discover a song that you think is freaking amazing and listen to it over and over and over and over again. I love when i find a song like that. I havent in quite a while.
I once played my favorite song 32 times in the same evening on my ipod. i checked the itunes stats the same day, no lie.
