List your College Major(s)

Sat Oct 03, 2009 4:22 pm

Currently applying for colleges right now and I was curious about what you guys majored in.
My current plans for majors are these while my alternate major is Applied Mathematics.
UC Berkeley-Undeclared Pre-Business(required for junior transfer into HAAS School of Business)
UC Davis-Economics
UC Irvine-Business Administration
UC San Diego-Economics and Mathematics(joint major)

I would really like to hear everybody's opinions and advice if they have any for me regarding practically anything college related.
And I don't know squat about Financial Aid so if anyone can shine some light on that, it would be really helpful.

Are those the choice of majors you want considering the current global economic crisis? (with the exception of Mathematics)
It's like choosing to be a TV repairman in an Amish community.

Well, Economics is the only thing I have an interest in and think is within my abilities. And IIRC, accounting majors have been pretty much resistant to the recession in terms of finding jobs and that is the area I'm interested in.
Previously, I was thinking of going into an Engineering field, but I've heard many stories of people finding it too difficult and backing out.
I'm pretty much split evenly between majoring in Economics or mathematics, with engineering still in the back of my mind.

Of course accountants are important at this point. Someone needs to do the dirty job of the financial fuck-ups.
Accounting may not be a bad choice considering your interest in engineering/mathematics and economics. You'll basically cover your interests of mathematics, engineering, and economics if you end up as an accounting major.

Enginnering is kinda hurtiing right now around here. My sister is one and due to the lovely economy situation no one is hiring because no outside R&D can be done because no one (including the government) can afford it

Electrical and Computer Engineering. Currently a senior and looking into both jobs and grad schools. I'm getting a ton of interviews and had to turn down a few that didn't sound interesting. I don't think the job market is too bad for me but if i can't find an offer I like I'll go to grad school for a Masters.

mvpshaq32, i major in economics and journalism in my Arts degree, I also study Law. Having knowledge in Accounting and Economics will really help your job prospects. I'm currently working in a Governmenet Department and the work here is covered by economics and accounting. I don't have any accounting knowledge (did one subject that was compulsory) but have been getting by only because I can follow the legislation.

Don't know how the College system works but over here, I know a few ex-class mates studying Engineering/Commerce degrees. In commerce you cover business, accounting and economics subjects so you have a basic knowledge on all those bases.

Hope that helps.
