...including the Hunter Valley region, where I am. Story

RESIDENTS of Sydney and parts of New South Wales have awoken to scenes likened to "armageddon", with limited visibility and orange skies.

Large areas have been shrouded in dust as the state experiences severe winds and unseasonably warm temperatures.

Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman Jane Golding said dust had settled on much of the state, including Sydney.

"It's pretty widespread," she told ABC Radio.

Kind of eerie to wake up to a glowing orange sky. Needless to say I've got my windows shut and I'm not going outside anytime soon but I can still taste it in the air.

Wow. I would hate that dust blanket over my sky too though it looks pretty in a picture. It can be really devastating to your health. Hope you wear masks all the time, whoever lives there.

Yeah the photographs that are coming out of it are pretty cool. No way I'm setting foot outside until it clears though.

It's not orange around here, but we also get quite a few of these dust storms during Spring. The whole sky turns brown and you can't see 50 meters ahead of you. Really annoying stuff.

You didn't just assume I'd gotten into the furniture polish again? ;)

It's not quite as orange now but it's nowhere near clearing up as yet.

I'm not working today but for most people I think it's business as usual, some businesses have probably decided not to open or have perhaps opened late as it's a bit clearer now.

And naturally, the radio stations are playing songs like "Another One Bites The Dust" and selected songs from the likes of Slim Dusty and Dusty Springfield.

You need to change title of topic to include Queensland. We got hit with it too. I looked at the window of work in Brisbane CBD & the sky was red  Wasn't too fun to breathe it in though (N)

Done. The air seems to have cleared somewhat though it was fairly unpleasant throughout the day, even staying inside as I did.

Yeah, when I woke up this morning and normally when I would turn to my window I would see a nice blue sky but this time it was like a orangey-red colour, did not know what was happening, was really weird it felt like it was some kind of zombieville everything seemed dead.

Not to mention all the dust on the cars. Every single car was like it hasn't been washed for a year.

No doubt, I feel sorry for anyone who washed their car at the weekend as I'm sure it's absolutely filthy after today.
