Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

And by "bad", I mean they're not critically acclaimed and you know they're far from cinematic masterpieces - in fact you might freely admit they're garbage - but you like them anyway because they're good for a laugh or you enjoy them ironically/on some other level. I guess you could call them guilty pleasures.
Mine would be:
1. Mortal Kombat (the sequel is up there too)
2. Slackers
3. Joe Dirt
4. Freddy Got Fingered
5. Dude, Where's My Car?
Very little substance, not heavy on favourable reviews or too many redeeming qualities (in particular Freddy Got Fingered) but I must admit I like them all the same. They certainly wouldn't make my regular top five/ten though.
Special mention: Dirty Love (written by and starring Jenny McCarthy). I had heard that it was one of the most awful movies ever made, so I had to see it just to find out how terrible it was. It's woeful, but selected parts are funny for all the wrong reasons, a series of "It can't get any lower than this...oh wait, I take that back" moments.

For sure I've seen 5 terrible movies but I have trouble remembering them to list them due to my brain wanting to block the memories forever.
1. Holy Man (with Eddy Murphy. My god. I literally walked out of the theater. I never walk out of theaters.)
2. Aeon Flux
3. Fantastic Four II
4. Big Trouble in Little China
5. Matrix III
What should be on the list: any super cheesy horror movie, action or comedy.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 12:40 am
Are those movies you actually enjoy(ed) though? I was going for movies that are difficult to defend as good movies, but you like them anyway.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 2:19 am
300
Matrix III
Terminator III
The Faculty
...
I tend to forget the name of all those bad movies from the 80's and 90's, but I'll probably ass some more when I can remember them...
Sat Jul 11, 2009 5:23 am
I couldn't really rate them, but mine would be...
The Final Destination Series
Revenge of the Nerds 1 + 2
Bloodsport 1-800
College Kickboxer
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat 2
Weird Science
Class of 1984
TMNT 2 (go ninja, go ninja go...)
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
10 Things I Hate About You
Lake Placid
Anaconda
Varsity Blues
Air Bud 1
The Air Up There
Oh and two others, the one with Johnny Knoxville pretending to be a retard to win stuff in the special Olympics, and the one where the three guys form a little league baseball team.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 5:57 am
Decoys
Dark Water
Star Wars - Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Anything on MST3K that isn't Hamlet. Rifftrax also assists in this, like with Daredevil, Battlefield Earth, etc.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:50 am
Daredevil
Oh shit, how could I forget that one...Worst movie ever in my list.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 9:40 am

2) Fast & The Furious series
3) Batman Forever/Batman & Robin
4) Van Helsing
5) Hard Target

1. Mortal Kombat (the sequel is up there too)
Hah, I remember wanting to see the sequel sooo badly after seeing the first one when i was 8 years old. Fast forward like 6 years and finally on one boring summer evening I rented it from blockbluster to see how it would go... I don't know whether it was because I had finally hit puberty or because that movie was so gosh darn horrid that even I couldn't stand to watch it.

I think the cheesiness is easier to spot when you get a little older. As the Nostalgia Critic and the Angry Video Game Nerd have emphatically pointed out, movies based on video games are usually a disappointment.

They don't have to be, the problem is when you say "fuck it" to any kind of good plot. The original Mortal Kombat isn't horrible because it tries to build a mythos. Street Fighter and DOOM? Yeah, fuck it. Whatever you need to get the stars fist fighting.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:21 pm
True. I've sometimes wondered if Ocarina of Time could be done well on the silver screen.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:27 pm
It's easy to make a great Zelda mythos movie, or "adult" mythos. The problem is the conglomerates who say "let's throw in fan references (see: BFG9000 reference in Doom) and they'll buy tickets!"
I'd question anyone who can't crib off of the Zelda mythos for a film or three and not be able to deliver something palatable.
Especially Metroid. Anyone who can pull that off is a great filmmaker.
Hell, Mario was a slam dunk, but they decided it was a bigger challenge to try and make it soul-crushing.

No, the Jean-Claude Van Damme one.
Sat Jul 11, 2009 11:56 pm
This was only an homage. Not a whole movie. The reason why I posted it was because dispite being 3 minutes long, it's better than the whole Jean Claude movie.

Yousa seem to be troubless of Jar-jar.

All this talk about Jean Claude Van Damme reminds me: I have to include The Quest in my list, I used to watch that movie all the time.
Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:38 am
Most of Van Damme's movies would make quite a pathetic list. I don't remember most of the titles, but I think Universal Solider was one of them, and it certainly was shitty.

The only scene I remember from that movie was when that black dude bit/grabbed the guys balls or something. Good tmes.
Space Jam, anyone?
Sun Jul 12, 2009 1:47 pm
Space Jam was good enough for what it was.

Not really a top 5er but I really had fun watching 10,000 BC. It wasn't until after that a lot of stuff in the movie didn't make sense.
