We've had threads of this nature before but not for a while and since I've seen a couple of documentaries on those subjects recently I thought I might bring it up again. For anyone unfamiliar with the term, cryptozoology refers to the study of/search for animals considered legendary/non-existent by mainstream biology (Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, etc).
So...who believes? Who has experiences they'd like to share?
I haven't had any experiences myself so I remain a skeptic though I do believe it's likely that there's life elsewhere in the universe, I'm just skeptical so many of them have visited Earth leaving minimal traces of their presence, crashed and/or been killed when they obviously have superior technology to us. When it comes to animals like Bigfoot and the like, I'm a little less skeptical because new species do get discovered and some species thought to be long extinct have since been discovered in limited numbers (such as the Coelacanth) though when it comes to the sightings of legendary animals I tend to think it's been a case of mistaken identity. I still find the stories and study of these things fascinating though, particularly the pscyhology behind ghosts/hauntings, UFOs/alien abductions and the possible explanations for people's experiences.

However, I did see a strange moving red lights once when I was swimming at night in our pool. It came up really fast, stayed still, then shot off. A few other people in our town saw it as well. The red lights were moving in a circle around something. That is all I remember.
I wasnt sick, or overly tired. My parents saw it, but when I brought it up the next week or so they denied it, so who knows,
cocaine is a hell of a drug

I had a couple of friends who claimed to have seen some strange, alien-like figures in the backyard late at night and then found some weird yellow ooze down by the creek. We were all around ten at the time though so to this day I have a feeling it was a shared imagination or just a story they'd concocted to trick/entertain the rest of the group.
My aunt also claimed to have been visited by my Nan shortly after she passed eight years ago. She didn't see anything but claimed to have felt a "presence" which sat down on the end of the bed. She said she found the experience comforting as well as terrifying so certainly I don't think it's an unhealthy belief, though some of the aspects of ghostly experiences and hauntings that have been explored in the documentary I was watching recently suggest that the experiences themselves are quite real, but quite likely psychological, combined with environmental factors.

Yes, it is usually a combination of the mind and your environment. Ever look at cloud formations and make out a familiar-looking shape or pattern?
One time I did think I was seeing a UFO up in the mountains. I saw a bright light pulse bright and then darkand back again. Then I saw it jump back and forth, then I saw it split in two and join back into one. Later on I found out that there were several fires in the mountains that night. Considering that those mountains are several miles away, that fire would have been really scary up close.

I was really into that when I was younger, but today, I'm not exactly convinced by UFOs (the more recent UFO sightings were documented by grainy shitty-ass jerky quality cameras—and this is 2009) and Bigfoot (we can find the rarest almost extinct creatures, but we can't find a big ape-monster?).
That being said, I think apparitions do happen, though I can't claim to have seen one before.

How are we sure that he didn't change his appearance and lives among normal people?
You know, he learned to shave and calls himself Jaosming in some internet forum. Possible.

Some of the UFO stories are pretty interesting, especially the ones where military jets are scrambled to investigate and then get their aerial abilities owned by some glowing lights. Could it be an alien spaceship? Could it be a secret black ops vessel? Could it be some lifeform we have yet to discover?
I remember seeing a story about the "rods" phenomenon and thought it was pretty cool. When I got my HD camera, I went to test it outside doing various things. One of them was shooting a few hoops in my driveway with the camera stationed on a car. Checking out the footage I noticed a "rod" looking thing making a horizontal "S" pattern, then all of a sudden hundreds of "rods" flew into the view from the opposite side of the scene, but they did not make the "S" pattern of flight. I know I didn't notice anything while I was playing, though. That prompted me to go look it up online, and I read that it was just a camera effect catching insects and other small objects moving too fast so they ended up blurred on the footage, and the rods were just a motion blur of the insects flight.

I believed everything when I was a kid. Now i don't know.
UFOs i think are man creation since there was a project in Germany in 20th century, to scientist to make a flying dish, he(and some crew) made it and then nothing of the project was heard again.
Ghosts i don't believe in. The part i don't believe is that they are dead and understand something while flying around. You can read information from objects(but we can't figure out how jet). Mirrors store the graphical information better then any other objects. So it can generate an image that is very old. So if you have an old Mirror, that was used by someone a lot, you might see a ghost of them. I it know sounds crazy.
Talking about the legendary animals. I don't believe in Nessie, coz nothing has been proven, what was proven was that a lot of those pictures are fake and in other it's just something else. There might be Bigfoots, but i'm not sure if they are still alive. Well if there are still tribes that we can't find(and are not searching for) there might be a bigfoot tribe.

puttincomputers, The first one is a film production, the second one is a fucking pool toy and the third is probably a dog. Also, apologizing for a double post does not make it ok, you clearly did it on purpose, and the edit button is just too easy to find for you to miss it.

Some of it's pretty simple too. With ghosts, their existence would confirm an afterlife which offers comfort in one of mankind's greatest fears. The belief in UFOs can also be comforting, the idea that we're not alone in the universe.
The power of suggestion is pretty interesting too. In the special I watched they played some recordings which were supposedly audio of hauntings. At certain points there was some static which was supposedly proof of spirits trying to make contact. They suggested a couple of phrases it might be - some of them rather nonsensical - and sure enough, each time they suggested a phrase that's what you heard in the static.

Same kind of thing with ghosts. Sometimes people capture "spirit orbs" which are insects or even dust particles reflecting the flash of the camera and creating ghostly effects.

Here's a ghost photo, often labelled as a fake but in this case (and by other sources as well) labelled as a true photo that hasn't been tampered with.

Supposedly one of those normal photos that reveal a ghost when developed. My money's on fake, but it's kind of creepy all the same.
