The Gunners 07-08: The New Era

So I finally have got this underway. I had to go back to playing Arsenal as I just can't seem to have as much fun with any other team. Im planning on not making too many drastic changes to the squad, mainly just plugging the glarying weaknesses and bringing in youth players, however that said the game could go anyway and we could see a totally different side pretty soon.
Anyway just to clear up a few things.... This is played on Football Manager 08, so it is entirely "Simmed"..... Unfortunately it won't allow you to be any younger than 30, so I couldn't be a 22 year old manager..... The recaps will probably be monthly with only the key games having extended coverage, however the offseason and pre-season will have individual coverage.

Oh by the way, sorry about the crappy banner, my PS skills and creativity have become pretty rusty.

A New Leader for a New Era.

Untested newcomer steps in to fill Wenger's shoes.

28/06/2007
In a press meeting this morning Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood issued an official statement confirming that New Zealand born Mark Moore had been appointed as the new manager of the Arsenal Football Club. The 30 year old, who boasts very little experience in top flight management, will be looking to perform to the high expectation left by the recently departed Arsène Wenger. It was only two weeks since Wenger stepped down from his position, citing personal reasons, before rumors started to surface of an unknown being courted by the Arsenal board, and only three days later it was made official.

Reception to the appointment has been mixed, with a large chunk of the fan base left confused, wondering why more experienced managers were passed up. However a smaller but very supportive group has welcomed the new change and is optimistic about the coming season as well as the long term future of the club under Moore's management. Like his predecessor Moore has a keen eye for spotting and nurturing young talent, however the big difference between the two is Moore's greater willingness to spend big money, Wenger on the other hand was renowned for his tight wallet, and many times frustrated fans with his unwillingness to make the big move. When asked about the topic in today’s press conference Moore stated:

"Arsène was great at spotting talent at as cheap a price as possible, he always made sure that he only paid what was necessary to improve his side, but yes, I do agree that on occasions the club did miss out on some amazing talent due to Arsène's strict transfer policy. While I am in no way intending to be loose with the clubs money, I do realise that every team values each player differently, and I will be prepared to spend that extra bit to make sure I improve the squad in the best possible way."

It is rumored that the Arsenal board as given Moore a preliminary transfer budget of £60m and wage budget of £2.12pw after he boldly assured them he would bring them the EPL title this season. Inside sources also report that Moore will be an element of freedom in deciding as to how the funds should be allocated between wages and transfers. This surely will leave Gunner's fans drooling at the possible signings Moore could be making, and names such as "Villa" and "Frey" have already been thrown round.

Whichever way you look at is this is going to be an interesting season for the Ashburton Grove faithful.

As many predicted the changes have started flowing in fast in the Arsenal camp. As of today no less than ten backroom staff members have officialy left the club citing their undying allegience to Wenger. Moore has already filled the vacant coaching spots, and will probably be looking to hire more socuts down the track. In a news conference today Moore addressed the media saying;

"The Arsenal FC organistaion is thankful to the services that the deaprting staff have provided, we regret having to see them leave. However we understand that they do not see themselves as part of the direction we are taking the club in and wish them all the best ofr the future. Today we also welcome five new coaching staff to the club, they bring with them a wide range of experience and skills and look forward to their contributions."

I was updating my Arsenal story and now I see you are starting one! What happened to the Lyon one? Anyway, really nice. It's great to have two Gunners stories. :)
