Monty Python

Any other Python fans here? Not long ago I picked up the complete series of Flying Circus on DVD and have been working my way through it. Foxtel has also been running episodes on The Comedy Channel so I've been catching them there too. They had their fair share of sketches that weren't hilariously absurd (but rather just absurd) but there's a lot of fine stuff beyond their most famous bits.

I'm also a fan of the movies but I've always preferred the TV series. I've always felt there's a lot of wit, clever wordplay and satire amongst the silly stuff that they're most commonly identified with. I wonder if a lot of the people who don't like Python get that, or whether they just dismiss it as sixteen ton weights falling on people.

All my siblings love Monty Python. We are always finding situations in everyday life to quote lines from "the Holy Grail" and other movies we love. I also prefer the TV sketches over the movies, with the exception of 'The search for the Holy Grail'. Although, I haven't seen the entire TV series, so I may have to netflix it one of these days.

Ah, a classic scene there. Holy Grail is my favourite out of the movies as well, slightly ahead of Meaning of Life but for me they're all still behind Flying Circus.

I personally am a big fan of Holy Grail with life of brian being my close second, could never really get into the flying circus stuff...its just too much crap to sift through to get to the funny stuff i feel.

Not all of the Flying Circus skits are memorable but there really is some clever stuff in there. That's not to say it's without any weaker sketches though, especially in the fourth season without John Cleese.

Monty Python is pure genius.

No one can come close to the comic genius of that gang.
I am a big John Stockton and Karl Malone fan. John Stockton and Karl Malone are the best NBA duo ever. They are more than just teammates and friends. Their relationships is unique and unseen in this league. They do everything together. They are soul mates united on the basketball court. I wish the Jazz would go back to those days :(.

I don't know about that, there have been individuals and ensembles that are comic geniuses in their own right but I don't think the Python crew gets enough credit for their work. People dismiss it as a bunch of silliness and there was certainly a lot of that but there was a lot of cleverness too and that's what made it unique.

Pavel is too smart to be wasting his life away on a video game forum like us.

How dare you even think that about the intelligent and superiour Pavel? We measly excuses for an existance pale in comparison to the great Pavel.

This said "Pavel" character sounds like he was just being silly on an internet forum and his joke was taken way too seriously by a certain stoner moderator from the Bronx who thinks that he's ghetto as shit.
