THQ Announces Plans To Release First WWE Legends-Themed Video Game
AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - (Business Wire) THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) and JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAKK) today announced that WWE® Legends of WrestleMania® is currently in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Joining the distinguished WWE® SmackDown®/SmackDown vs. Raw® franchise, which has shipped more than 37 million units worldwide since 2000, WWE Legends of WrestleMania is scheduled for release in March 2009 to coincide with the annual pinnacle of sports entertainment, WrestleMania® 25, in Houston, Texas.
I'm guessing it will use the Smackdown vs RAW engine and feature some kind of challenge/story mode that will involve replaying classic angles surrounding Wrestlemania. Could be good.

Interesting, but until I hear the words "No Mercy Engine" I'm turned off from new wrestling games.

Uh, wrong section?

nice catch, I didnt even notice

I could have sworn I posted it in Video Games Central, that was certainly my intention.

That rules out everything aside from Pro Wrestling X. No Mercy's engine was great but I still enjoy the Smackdown series. 2008 was a bit of a letdown, the small changes to the controls had potential but weren't really an improvement in my view.

I enjoyed Smackdown 2 a lot, but that was all multiplayer with my friends. I forget which PS2 version I had but there was some fun in it but it never touched what No Mercy, WCW vs NWO, Wrestlemania 2000, and that first WCW game in terms of single player fun for me. Hell even that Japanese game that I got to play once was damn amazing (came out after No Mercy, it has some UFC type mode it it, really fun). I guess my opinion is unfair because no shooter imo has touched Goldeneye in pure fun yet either.
As for Pro Wrestling X, man I'm just waiting on that Uprising "demo" release. I am paying for it straight out just because I really want to support them but I would like to play something from them first.

SDvRAW 2009 sounds promising but for the most part it'll probably be more of the same.

i like the legends games, if they have the wrestlers i grew up with in the game, and not some crap wrestlers they call legends
Fri May 09, 2008 3:50 am
hope they input everyone in the roster for the next game..instead of leaving out some of the actually talented wrestlers
isn't there a rumor about a no mercy 2 with the current roster for wii?

Wake me up when an American wrestling game gets released that doesn't involve building up a meter by taunting repetitively in order to use your full moveset. I'll stick to the King of Colosseum series, All-Star Professional Wrestling 3, and Fire Pro Wrestling Returns in the meantime.

Given that it will be a WWE licensed game I assume there will be a few omissions, namely anyone who isn't on good enough terms with the WWE. That eliminates Randy Savage right off the bat, Vince McMahon supposedly wants nothing to do with him ever again for reasons that have never been made clear. It will probably exclude anyone who's never wrestled in the WWWF/WWF/WWE too though that still leaves a good amount of old time wrestlers who could be included.

Interestingly, there's a new trailer that shows The Ultimate Warrior in the game. I would've thought he'd been left out with all the bad blood between him and the WWE.
Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:59 am
Found some videos
heres your trailer i think
Mon Feb 02, 2009 5:54 am
Yep, that's the one. I guess that confirms Hogan, Andre, The Rock, Stone Cold, Roddy Pipper and The Ultimate Warrior for the game. If Warrior's in there, maybe Savage stands a shot at being included after all.

Looks like they are trying to get me to buy the regular SvR games along with this
Bar that, confirmed features include online play and create modes, essential really, given the last SDvR game included both, and, get this, you'll be able to import superstars from SDvR09 into Legends and play with them. We're not sure exactly how this is going to work, but fans are sure to love it - John Cena versus Bret Hart? You got it.
Oh and that Bret Hart comment?
Not the World Wide Fund for Nature, but the World Wrestling Federation, as it was known back in the day. Back, dare we say it, when it was good. Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Bobby "the Brain" Heenan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Jimmy Hart and Bret Hart - remember them?
Looks like we got a few more legends to play with.

http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/14252213 ... m_ep1.htmlThey are starting to go to town on that roster
Bam Bam!
Sun Feb 08, 2009 10:32 am
Looks like a pretty awesome roster so far.
Also, if you'll forgive the self-promotion, I've written a
guest feature about the game that's featured over at 5WGaming.
Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:13 pm
Seen the video over at IGN, wonder if the wrestlers change their outfit to match the WrestleMania they appeared in.
Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:19 pm
That'd be cool, in the vid HBK had a red one and the white one from '96, if I caught that correctly.
Sun Feb 08, 2009 6:33 pm
The videos so far have also spoiled the inclusion of Bret Hart, Stone Cold, The Rock, Roddy Piper and the Ultimate Warrior.
Sun Feb 08, 2009 7:28 pm
Yeah, they shouldn't have shown Bret though. That's the biggest surprise I've seen there. If Savage will be included too, then hell yeah.
Mon Feb 09, 2009 7:03 pm
Depends on Vince McMahon's personal issues with Savage, though with the Ultimate Warrior being in the game, who knows? That was a bridge that appeared to have been well and truly burned a long time ago.
