Yeah it seems to be doing alright...

I'll go out on a limb and suggest Rockstar/Take-Two are reasonably happy with those scores. It'll be interesting to see if the hardcore fans are of the same mindset.

Have you got the game yet, Andrew?

Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:16 am

So...are you all getting the 360 or ps3 version of this game? I have no next-gen console at this point so I'll have to decide on whether to use the 360 or the ps3.

Not yet, heading out soon though.

360. I don't have a PS3, so the choice was pretty easy for me.

Any news on GTA IV coming for PC?

Tue Apr 29, 2008 12:43 pm

I heard it was likely , but they'll push it back to Sept / October or something. This really doesn't come off any website though and is just my vague recollection from another forum.

ign prefers the ps3 version over the xbox version.

this game looks awesome though. i might pick up a copy myself despite my roommate getting one for his xbox.

Picked it up today. Even though I've only played it for a few hours, I can already see why it's been garnering such impressive scores.

As I mentioned more than once in the lead up to the release, I was worried that some of the new features and focus on realism was going to take away from the experience but so far that definitely hasn't been the case. I was very pleased to discover that it retains the elements that made the GTA3 era games so great. I'm still getting used to driving though, since I'm used to the less realistic physics of the previous games, particularly when it comes to braking and the new control layout. I haven't tried the classic controls but the new controls feel fairly natural on the 360 controller.

The camera angles and movements are a bit annoying and not always helpful but I'm getting used to it. The ability to lock the camera onto a target is cool though and looks like it will be very handy in chase missions. I expect a lot of those little improvements will go a long way in making parts of the game easier. So far I'm not missing the lack of pickups but as the missions get harder I might start missing them a little more.

Not to spoil anything for anyone who doesn't have the game yet, but as with most GTA games some of the earlier missions are practically tutorial missions that introduce the different aspects of the game and one of those missions teaches you about evading a wanted level, assuming you haven't run into that scenario already. I found it kind of difficult, it took me nearly four minutes to lose the wanted level but that's partly due to my driving skills which still need a lot of polishing. It looks like it'll be a much better system, once I get the hang of it.

I only had a quick go at online play when Matthew invited me to take part in a deathmatch but it looks like the online stuff is going to be a lot of fun too. So far I'm loving the game, I really didn't have anything to be concerned about. There's nothing I particularly dislike thus far, only stuff that takes a bit of practice and getting used to which is all part of the fun. So far it's living up to the hype and then some, I don't expect that will change.

That's gonna be a fucking nightmare having to wait (hopefully) til the end of the year to get it on PC, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. It will certainly look better on a good machine, and most of all it'll probably be moddable like the previous ones, which adds a lot to it. Still, what a bummer :?

Wed Apr 30, 2008 3:05 am

I just played a quick 20 minutes or so during my lunch hour and my god, that was probably some of the most fun I could have.
First time loading the game, run across the street, get sideswiped by one car and flung into the other side of traffic off a taxi....Fucking perfect. Then proceeded to beat up a pedestrian, got ganged up on and died. Beat up an old guy on the pier, then got killed by the police. Went to the airport, 4*'s dead. Attempted to run across the bridge to get to the locked areas, made it across by walking between the train tracks, jumped over the side, landed, shot dead by a shotgun. Then before I came back here to work preceded to drive a bike into on coming traffic and just hit a car. :D (Y)
This game is perfect for me.

I been playing for about an hour or so and I'm loving it. I took a cab to the bar with Roman and the cabbie was a shitty driver and flipped the cab. After we left the bar Niko and Roman were so drunk that you could barely walk without falling down, which was pretty funny. The magic show is pretty entertaining as well when you go on a date.

Wed Apr 30, 2008 5:44 am

I watched the IGN video review and some others videos, and damn, I'm so horny now.
I've got to get that game.

Wed Apr 30, 2008 8:36 am

Just got my copy today. My XBox 360 finally seems appealing again.

The presentation and pretty much everything is typical Rockstar quality, spectacular throughout. Although I find the movement and the driving to be rather unresponsive.. just a preference I guess.

Awesome game though. Money well spent.

Let's just hope GTAIV's saves Take Two's ass so they can tell EA to fuck off completely.

Heh. "typical [adjective] [noun]"

My 360 picked the wrong time to pick. What a shitty console. :wall:

It may happen, but i see it as unlikely, considering San Andreas only got pulled from shelves after the Hot Coffee was found on PC.

So far the game looks sick and i can't wait to finish it.

Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:32 am

I'm loving the finer details, like the reactions from drivers and pedestrians and the difference between running on flat ground and going up and down stairs. No more losing health running down stairs after you suddenly jump the last ten steps for no apparent reason.

Er...no. It only got pulled after it got an AO rating, and it only got that because Hot Coffee was found on the PS2 version, meaning it was not entirely a "third-party mod" as Rockstar had originally claimed.

Apparently, it will be on PC for October... but it's just a rumor...

so happy to finally have this game , and after staying home today and playing it i have come to love it. so far only 1 complaint and that is the sound track. imo the sound track completly sucks, the comercials are actually the best thing on the radio, to me anyway.

one of the first things i did was go to the airport and crash into a plane. instantly gained 4 stars and have alot of fun with the new system they have in place for losing the cops, actually lost them too. later i crossed the bridge and since it was still locked received 6 stars and didnt do very well during that escape lol.

cut scenes are great imo and even after all my worries about the controls i like them alot. i like how they have the old version with the new version.

i find myself useing the first person view while driving now due to the free aim, helps alot.

anyway so far its been great, and already has my wife yelling at me for not giving her enough attention

Yes , I'm not a big fan of the music , but you could probably add your own music in and set up a custom mp3 station.

During further discussions with other people a few questions came to mind about this game. Properties could be purchased in VC and SA to earn more income , can this be done in IV too? The second question involves saving , do you still have to go to a certain save house to save , or can you just save on the street using what I imagine would be the phone option?

Wed Apr 30, 2008 12:27 pm

At the beginning of the game, you can save the game in your apartment but there's also an optional autosave feature that saves the game in a seperate autosave slot after you complete a mission, which is fantastic.
