Californication (Season 2)

Postby Andrew on Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:58 am

Is anyone else around these parts a fan?

Season 2 is supposed to commence filming next month. I'm looking forward to it but I'm wondering how it will move forward, since the first season's finale seemed to wrap everything up and end some story arcs that would appear to be the staple of the series should it run at least a few seasons.

I'm really hoping they don't turn around and make the final events of that last episode a dream sequence or have Karen suddenly backpedal for no real reason but having them together goes against the whole angle of the series with Hank trying to win her back right in front of Bill or his random "conquests".

Well not everything's wrapped up since when Karen left with Hank she was already married with Bill, so we're gonna have to see how that goes.

I do think it's very likely the last scene was a dream, though: it simply does not fit the show's premise.

I think they're gonna build up season two on that, the Charlie-Dani-Marcy storyline and Hank not letting Mia publish his book. I also think the fact that Mia slept with Hank is gonna surface somehow.

Anyone know when the season two premiere is gonna air? The series premiere aired in August, 2007 so I was wondering if they're planning to air the second season's premiere in August this year or some time else.

"Wrapped up" was a bit of an exaggeration but in some ways, it felt more like a series finale rather than a season finale, leaving some questions unanswered but placing the characters in a situation with some resolution with Karen leaving with Hank during the reception. The series' premise doesn't really work if they're together (at least while the show is still running, as a series finale it would work) but making it a dream sequence or on-again, off-again situation with Hank and Karen would be a bit of a letdown, something more worthy of a daytime soap.

Doesn't look like there's any news on when the second season will premiere. August or later seems like a good guess to me though.

Still no word on when the second season will air, only that it commenced filming in April but the first season DVD boxset will be released June 17th.

Click

Looks like it's gonna air some time this summer, although it's not official. It makes sense, however: Weeds is returning this summer too and it would give Californication an excellent lead-in.

Thanks for the heads up. Wikipedia is listing June 16th as the premiere for the next season of Weeds so perhaps we're looking at the same timeframe for Californication.

Weird. On the front page it clearly says Fall 2008, but when you click on "Click to Learn More", it says "Summer 2008". I'm thinking they don't even know when they're going to finish shooting and editing. It'll probably be on the air by August, just like last season.

I noticed that too. On a different note, it looks like we're the only ones around these parts looking forward to the new season.

I'm looking forward to the new season as well. Though I fear that they will just ignore the end of season 1 and go back to the way it was before (Him and her broken up and bla bla bla).. Then again, his sleeping around seems to be a very large part of the show and something that they feel needs to be there.. (Hopefully not)

That's the problem. I think writing off the end of Season 1 as a dream sequence or having Karen change her mind for some contrived reason would be a disappointment but Hank's exploits with the ladies are a key part of the show. I think they went for broke in case the show wasn't renewed and are now left to deal with it.

Perhaps Karen won't stay with Hank but won't go back to Bill either, leading them both to vy for her attention (with Hank sleeping around in the meantime). In any case, I'm interested to see which way they'll go and whether the show will work if the dynamic changes.

Woah! Dexter at 9 and Californication right after. I predict big numbers and I'm a big fan of both so I'm excited to say the least. I was hoping for a two-hour premiere for Dexter, though.

I watched the complete season 1 earlier this summer. Hank's an author...any thought the ending or the entire series is a book he's writing?

Well now I'm thinking about it... It's plausible, I mean it's obvious it all can't be real, at least not all of it, because otherwise, as said before, there wouldn't be much to work on for a full season. I like your theory more than the "it was all a dream" one. Somehow it's more realistic...

Making it a dream sequence is too soapish for the style of this show. Its too gritty for that. I just wish i had some way to get showtime for this upcoming season considering its the only show i enjoy that i wont be able to record (right now 30 rock scrubs the office and californication are all i watch besides ESPN)

I wouldn't hate that as I would an "it was all a dream" approach but it's still a little too close to that premise. At the end of the day, it's just a more inventive way of that final scene didn't happen which as you said doesn't fit the tone of the show but would seem unavoidable.

Just wanted to let you guys know you can get the pre-air versions of the first two episodes of season two at thepeerhub.com. It's a private tracker but all you have to do is register (and seed back at least at a 1:1 ratio otherwise you'll be banned). They'll be available soon at public trackers too.

I thought the two first episodes were good. I won’t say too much, but I'm glad they went the way they did, and it'll be interesting to see how it develops..

Caught the season premiere and loved it.
Excellent to see that they didn't write it all off as a dream or fantasy. I think the new angle of Hank trying to avoid messing everything up, the threat of the truth coming out about what happened with Mia and the like can work, I hope they don't just have Karen go back to Bill at the first sign of trouble and revert back to the same formula as the first season.
Anyone else been keeping up with the season? I'm liking it just as much as the first, Hank and Karen's relationship falling apart was predictable but at least they haven't had her running back to Bill. With the breakup/seperation, they've been able to have Hank go back to some of the traits that made him such an entertaining character during the first season. The whole Mia situation has kind of been pushed to the background through the first six episodes but I'm waiting for that to blow up especially given what happened at the end of the last episode.
