Vermont Town to Vote on Arresting Bush, Cheney

Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:05 pm

(full article link) http://www.nationalexpositor.com/index. ... &Vote=Vote

Brattleboro residents will vote at town meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be indicted and arrested for war crimes, perjury or obstruction of justice if they ever step foot in Vermont....

...So far, Vermont is the only state Bush hasn't visited since he became president in 2001....

...
He said he gathered nearly 500 signatures in about three weeks, and he said most people he encountered were eager to sign it. He started the petition drive about three months ago.

"Everybody I talked to wanted Bush to go," he said, noting that even members of the local police department supported the drive.

So yea, I'm actually not surprised that people want Bush 'n' Dick arrested. What I was surprised about was in one of the paragraphs of that article.

He said the idea is spreading: Activists in Louisville, Ky., are spearheading a similar drive, and he said activists were also working in Montague, Mass., a Berkshires town.

Montague is the town I grew up in. Brattleboro where this vote is taking place is not even 20 minutes away. I do read the local paper every day but this is the first I've heard of this kind of talk. I mean, I know a couple of towns in both New Hampshire and Vermont want to secede from the US but these towns have got to be literally populated by <100 people.

So, if this motion gets passed, and Bush goes into Vermont, do you really see him getting arrested? I mean, these Vermonters, they'll stick to their word and if the police won't do it you will literally have farmers going after him.

For sure, something like this won't get passed in Massachusetts, but I could see it happen in Vermont.

Why would Bush ever go to Vermont again?

Apparently mob rule is what we're headed towards now? We arrest people for crimes they didn't commit, to make political statements?

There's also the question of whether or not the State Police, let alone the local police, have the jurisdiction to arrest anyone on war crimes charges. Let alone perjury and obstruction of justice, both of which are decided by a court (you can't be "arrested" for perjury or obstruction of justice) and related to a specific case, and neither one has been found to have committed either.

And yet...we wonder why people hate politics?

Obviously this is just a statement. I'm sure nobody there really believes they could actually arrest the president of the united states based on a petition and local cops that have no jurisdiction to make that kind of charge. Actually I'm sure there are people there who believe that, but they're wrong.

Yup, I think you hit the nail right on the head with that one. :?

How does that article even qualify as news?

Why give dimbulbs like that free publicity? Color me confused.

Better get used to "reality" TV, because without writers producers are even dumber then you may think. You can already see the effects of the strike with C-list celebrities continuing to get shows where they can try and find their true love. Hell, even the losers on those dating shows become dating show celebrities and get their own shows.
