Things that've shocked you when you heard about them...

Don't list 9/11 or anything stupid like that, obviously those things are shocking. I'm talking about the kinda "smaller" stuff that genuinely shocked you the first time you read/saw/heard about it. Here are some of mine in no particular order...

Chris Benoit kills his whole family + himself
Jonathan Brandis hangs himself
Charmain Dragun commits suicide
The yellow Power Ranger dies
Reading about the plans for The Warriors remake. Almost lead to suicide.
Seeing a documentary which included in-car footage of Lisa Lopes laughing at the camera then hearing screams while the car crashes. Creepy.

George Bush getting elected, and then re-elected.
When Magic Johnson announced he had AIDS and retired.
That god-damn car commercial where the screaming zombie pops up out of nowhere.
Hearing that one of my best friends was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver speeding through a red light the summer before our senior year in high school.
Hearing about another friend who accidentally killed himself while trying to hide his gun after being pulled over.
Hearing about yet another friend who was plotted and stalked by some gangstaz who tried to jack his car from his own house while he was in it with his girlfriend, only for them to fight and another gangsta to come out of the bushes and shoot him in the back of the head. They wrecked the car only a few miles down the road.
Being invited to become a team member at the NLSC.
When I heard my mother had breast cancer
When I heard my parents only knew each other for 3 weeks before getting married. They are still together.

biggest surpise in my life was almost the time i was most scared. when you do a walk trhough in a hospital before having a baby they show you a phone and say "that phone only gets used in the cause of an emergency. it is a direct line to the NIC unit".

on the day my baby was born i got to hold him for about 20 seconds before they picked that phone up and took him away from me for the night

Must have been horrible. Is he ok now?

he was left in the NICU over night and into the next morning but the next day the told us that his problem(he had breathing problems) had cleared up and he is fine now

Wasn't surprised when the Yellow Ranger died. It was basically a rip-off of one of the original series it was based on. Doesn't have the same emotional impact when it happens for a second time.

I was talking about the girl who played the original yellow ranger, she's the one who died, not the character.
