The Pursuit of Happiness...

Postby [Q] on Sat Oct 13, 2007 6:07 pm

what does it take to make you happy.... truly happy?

it's been so long for me I can't remember the last time i was happy. probably at least 14-15 years ago, when i was a kid and I had no responsibilities but playing and having fun, with my best friend (that moved away when i was 9) and I didn't have a care in the world.

Well, it's pretty hard to reach good ol' bliss when your childhood was 10, 15, 20 years ago, but I would definitely start with these two:

Where do you wanna be? What part of the US, what country...I know I wanted to be here, I did whatever it took to make it, so I'm happier than if I had stayed where I was before (well, there's no way to know what could have happened, but still).
Who do you wanna be with? Might not matter til you get older, but when you start having a pretty clear idea on that, it's the same thing, fight for it, do whatever it takes, makes it sweeter when you achieve it.

Obviously, having the right job with good pay, or being in the right course of studies also help quite a lot, but it's pretty much all linked to money, not my first two suggestions. I dunno, just some random thoughts...

Gay now is the old fashion word of being happy, so gay means gay as in homo.

Aw, someone isn't feeling very gay today.

I'm far from happy.

Weak attempt at trolling.

For me personally, I need a real confidante, and someone who I can feel completely and totally comfortable around. Not necesarily a lover (although I really am hoping for that) but just someone who I can share my deepest secrets with. Preferably someone who I can hug, and cuddle with. Sex isn't a requirement.

I know it sounds really sappy, but when you're 5 hours from home and struggling with life, a confidante/bff means far more than a hook up.

I think to be happy is to have goals. When you have everything you want, it's easy to become unhappy since there's no sense of desire. I'm always setting up goals to keep me excited or looking forward to something. Once I reach that goal, I'll take the time to enjoy it until it reaches "well, it was fun while it lasted." Then set up a new goal. Goals could be anything. Reaching monetary goals, physical goals, good grades, relationship goals, job rankings, new toys and gadgets, a movie, whatever. Life's a long journey, so enjoy it while you can.

Coming from you it just doesn't have the same humor. Perhaps its because I think you're a racist, bigot, and a homophobe?

Oh I'm racist? Since you know me so well.

I'm a homophobe? I don't like the lifestyle, but I'm hardly afraid of you guys especially considering one of my good friends is gay.

Nice attempt on trying to belittle me though. It really gave me a scare.

I thought it was pretty funny...

I actually had a long conversation with a friend about this. It was mainly based around how many people look to external sources (such as women, sex) in order to get validation from others and make themselves happy.
In the end, it wont work...

Having goals, like someone said, can help, but IMO the best way to find happiness is to find an activity that you can do that relies on no one else, that you enjoy.
Me, I have kayaking and playing basketball in my driveway.

A friend has nothing, and gets depressed a lot. He derives all his happiness from being around others, sex, women... all that. When he is alone, gets depressed.

So Pdub, I put it to you...

Okay, okay. I realize they are different. A racist is a bigot, but a bigot is not necessarily a racist.

The fact that you consider it a "lifestyle" (as if every gay person lives in largely the same manner) says that you are. It's a sexual orientation, not a lifestyle.

The only halfway decent response I got... thanks Cy.

and how do you propose I get this "Pussy"? I believe it's a rather difficult task.

at least from anyone cute or at least decent looking. (especially when you're asian. sometimes i just wanna whip it out and say "Hey! look at how big I am!")
