Do they have region settings? I'm thinking bout buying one on an American site and gettin it delivered here, caus I'd save like $300.

But if it's like DVD's, I won't be able to do it.

anyone know?

playstation 3's are region locked for dvds but games on all regions will work on all consoles as far as i am aware.

the whole region bollocks is shocking in my opinion, just another way for these big fat cat companies to make extra money. instead of selling there publishing rights to one company for the whole world it allows them to sell there publishing to three different companies under region 1 region 2 and regio 3.

oh and then the cover it up by saying its to cut down piracy lol.

You might want to hold off on that, they are releasing 40GB models in Australia for AUD$699 in the next day or two I believe....

yeah, forget to agree with Tempo, the PS3 has region locking for DVD's & Blu Ray's....I have an imported Japanese PS3 & it can only play Japanese DVD's & American/Japanese Blu Rays....I figure I already have a DVD player, so don't want to waste PS3 on playing DVD's....Blu Ray's are too expensive to warrant purchasing....I figure if I really want a Blu Ray, I can just buy American copy off Amazon....by the time Blu Ray's come down in price, so with the Blu Ray players....

so yeah, only region free for games....

Ah k well I might just go for the $700 one then or hit up the Trading Post and try and cheat someone into selling it for $550-600.

Online play is free right? thats the main reason I'm getting the PS3.

... Though the PSN (Playstation Network) is horrible. But for online games and such it works perfectly.

I always see people complaining about this, and was wondering, what does Live have that the PSN doesn't have? Obviously theres more arcade games trailers etc since its been out longer but what else?

it's just ran better. Like the layout and how it all works and everything is just superior and also the players tend to be better cause you've got people paying for it, where was you wont have that same quality on the PSN.

But yeah SkipToMy_Lou i'd get a PS3/360 from America, cause first of all, it's like $550-$600 Aussie for the 60GB PS3 model, also a new game is only $66 Aussie, and you'll be able to get 2k8 straight away...
Everytime you want a game you'll only have to pay $66 and even if the shipping is like $10 or more, your saving like $20-$30.

I'd of bought my 360 from America if i knew this earlier in the year...

If I was buying now, I'd just pony up $699 for 40GB PS3, PAL region....games are region free so it doesn't matter....

as for 360, I would always buy a PAL unless you absolutely must have a game like College Hoops & don't want to a region free PS3

Yes 2k sends out a roster update every couple months or so. You can also transfer user created rosters using any usb device or memory sticks.
