FM07 NLSC Story : Draft Discussion Thread

For those of you not aware, I was running the NLSC FM06 Story for a short while sometime last year. Due to time constraints I couldn't keep updating, but now I have bought myself a computer and will be able to update alot more frequently, only this time I've decided to try something a little bit different.

Instead of you creating yourself and playing in the game as a player, you will be creating your own team and essentially be the chairman/CEO. You will pick the name and draft the entire squad from scratch, also, you will be picking your own manager and assistant manager from the game to run your team for you.

There will be a points system. You will gain/lose points in a variety of ways (that will be posted when the game starts), and these can be used for everything from firing/hiring a new manager to injecting cash into your club to signing certain players.

This first thread is just for you to express your interest in the game, there are a few conditions however...

You must own Football Manager 2007. You don't have to play it regularly, but it will help to have a good understanding of how the game works already.

You must actively participate. It's not going to be too time consuming or anything, but I'm not going to bother if people won't participate all the same.

Due to the fact that this is larger/alot harder to run than the last FM story, I'd like to keep the number of people in the game to a maximum of 10. So that will be 10 new teams in the EPL.

Originally I wanted to let you guys run the teams, doing everything from tactics and such but I think that would be near impossible for me to do. I would have to take control of every match, there are 38 or so games in the EPL season, if 6 people signed up that would be over 200 games for me to sit through. This way it will be alot easier to monitor, and I think letting you have ultimate power over the club itself is more fun anyway.

So I'm looking for people interested. I want a maximum of 10, minimum of 6. There will be some people I'd accept automatically (Mark for instance since he plays the game) but some others, if I'm not familiar with you and I get more than 10 entries you may not get in straight away, but apply nonetheless.

Starting from scratch, creating new clubs to replace existing ones.. I'll basically just relegate crappy clubs all the way down the line to make space.

So, massive interest for this will give it a few more days.

Looks like a cool idea, but I've only got FM07 on the 360 (I know, pretty weak). Will follow this though, and when we do an 08 version I will put my hand up to play (as I'm not getting 08 on console but on my mac).

You guys can both join. You would know how the game works, technically you don't HAVE to have it to play, I just wanted the people participating to understand the game and such.

Some... guys like Ronaldinho, Kaka, Drogba, Terry, Gerrard etc will not be available to be drafted, you'll only be able to buy them with your own money (if you can afford it) or with a certain amount of points.

Oh ok, so not the 'superstars', but its possible to get fairly good players and stuff? Is that just due to the fact that because everyone will be using new teams, it would make it more realistic because they wouldnt be able to go out and spend the entire budget on one player, and so we have to actually go to the trouble of building a team? I actually like that, sounds like a lot of fun!!

The reason behind it is mostly so that for one the EPL doesn't just become dominated by the 6 NLSC teams, and also so that when you get into the European competitions you'll be playing teams that are equally strong.

Another rule will be that you can't draft players who play for current EPL teams, but you will be able to buy them as the game progresses. The reasoning for this is so the EPL isn't raped of it's good players and becomes completely lopsided.

You could definitely build a good team, I mean for example Manchester United would only have Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo as undraftable players (if they were outside the EPL) the rest would be fair game.

The only problem is your affiliated clubs, Sunderland is an EPL side and Sao Paulo are a bit too big. Also you've given tactical focus a rating of 25 lol. Otherwise it's fine.

Yeah that 25 was a typo.. Do you have any preference for where we pick our affiliated clubs? Or doesnt matter as long as they are small and arent in the EPL?

I guess ill change mine to Melbourne Victory, and what about LA Galaxy?

Melbourne's cool, LA will give you financial benefits which kinda isn't fair to the others since you'll get points for being in the best shape financially etc. What about a team from Belgium? You can buy foreigners who don't get a work permit and they will be sent there until they're eligible to play for you.

Edit: I'll see if I can give you LA without the financial benefits, about to create your team now.

Edit2: Yep, Wiltshire Warriors now exist.
