Did you EVER think you'd hear those words? Probably not. However, I just spent the last 36 hours processing and enlisting in the United States Navy down in Des Moines, IA. The good news is I was accepted and got the rating (job) I wanted which was Master at Arms (Navy cop). The "bad" news is the job is so overmanned they got me a ship date in next June (25th of June, 2008). They said they will try to move it up so I can ship faster but honestly I don't care. It gives me some more time to enjoy civilian life.

Anyway, I just thought I'd let you guys know! Riot is not a Soldier. Is not a Marine. He's a Seaman!!!

I have boot camp for 8 weeks in Greater Lakers, Ill and after that I go to "A" School to learn how to become a police officer in the Navy. That takes about 8 weeks as well. I should be done by Thanksgiving or so with all my training. After that I get sent to my duty station and I will have internet access there. Inbetween Boot and "A" school is one free weekend but I won't have time to get on the computer probably.

So you'll be shipping out pretty much right after the T-Wolves wrap up their NBA championship parade. Perfect timing.

Yup, I'll hear it all. The funny thing is when you are in the Navy you are called Seaman (last name) and my recruiter was telling me some of the guys he has been on board with in his time as a sailor. He's seen Seaman Stain, Seaman Head, etc. Some funny stuff.

Seriously though, congrats Riot. I'm not surprised to hear you've joined the armed forces as you've spoken passionately about doing that in the past though I didn't think you were considering the Navy.

Yup, I'm going to be trained in SWAT tactics and everything as well. They literally just added that to the training about last month. Not only that, but in "A" School if you do well you can pick a "C" School to attend if you want to do something specific in your job field. I'm gunning for MSF (Mobile Security Force) which is basically one of the Navy's top trained sailors in combat. They are good at convoy security and just physical security in general. If there is a crisis and they need help right away they send the MSF out. Those guys are mostly in Iraq and Afghanistan right now.

I've heard a lot of good things about the MSF so I'm hoping I can do very well in boot and "A" School so I'm at the top of the list in picking not only if I want to do MSF but also where I am stationed. Everyone gets to pick where they are stationed but they have a list and whoever is top in the class picks first and it goes down the line. So the better you perform the better choice you get. I want to get San Diego or Hawaii or some place like that. That would be fun.

i would never join the army, and i don't agree with a lot of your politics, but i would be remiss not to wish you good luck. truth is relative, and i am glad you have found yours.
