Xbox 360 Elite vs PS3

Postby lj umali on Sun May 27, 2007 11:10 am

Help me guys to decide which one is to buy, because both consoles are good. I like high end graphics which clearly goes to the 360 but the ps3 has a built in blu-ray rom.

Well first of all the PS3 is definately the superior console hardware wise, therefore it should have the better graphics, but as of now most devs are just making ports from the 360 onto the PS3, so there won't be much difference. But trust me PS3 will have the better graphics, but graphics aren't everything.

If you have the cash for a PS3 I say get it. You might be a little dissapointed for the time being, since the great new games (WarHawk, Assassins Creed, Lair, RS Vegas, GTA4, etc etc) wont be out for a couple months, and because there hasn't been that great of a firmware update yet (1.80 was decent though). But the PS3 is future proof, easy to upgrade to any 2.5'' HDD if need be, as you said Blue ray is great and will become the mainstream, Home is great if your into that type thing, and despite what some people say the PS3 does have some pretty good exclusives. If you can be patient get the PS3, its pretty decent right now, but is more future proof than the 360.

Ps3 has free online gaming too...you have to pay to play 360 games online (N)

Despite this , I still believe 360 has the better games at this point...Crackdown , Saint's Row , Halo 3 (upcoming). Depends on what you want...free gaming or better gaming.

Yeah, 360 has a lot of good games but ps3 also has good games coming this year like warhawk. The 360 needs an add-on for the hd-dvd while the blu-ray is already built-in on the ps3. The 360 will surely cost more than the ps3 if you buy the add-on and its accessories.

umm no...a 300 dollar difference will not be made up with accessories...EDIT: just saw the elite which is approximately the same as PS3 pricewise, but what the hell do you need 120 gb on your xbox for?....secondly: I'm gonna tell the truth, i play games for gameplay, not graphics. Shit, look at the Wii. Thats been the most fun thing i've played in years and the graphics on it are far from jaw dropping. Also all this about blu-ray becoming the norm: not until it gets cheaper. You gotta remember the general public still can barely use a dvd player and still have no idea what it means. If they want people to upgrade they need to lower the price of blu-ray immensely so the populace will want it. I say fuck blu-ray personally, i dont really need to see the sweat roll down Bruce Willis face in Die Hard. The sweat down jessica alba in sin city could be nice though....

Blue Ray will make or break the ps3 I think, 30€ for a br movie is garbage. Until that changes, I'm leaning towards the 360E myself.

I just got a 360 elite and couldn't be happier. It has everything I need and more, and if people do their true research in regards to graphics and hardware, especially with design technology for it, the 360 is superior.

The 120 gb hard drive will be nothing if you started to burn 360 games on the elite because a single game is more than 20 gb. And personally i think the blu-ray is much better than the hd-dvd. My dad wants a hd-dvd and i think i'll get the ps3 for the blu-ray not mainly for the games. If my dad will buy the hd-dvd then i will also buy a ps3 so that we can have both hd-dvd and a blu-ray. In terms of graphics the 360 is truly superior to the ps3 but the ps3 has more features than the 360. :)

The dvd's that 360 games come on only store like 8.5gb (not totally sure on this but I know it's under 10 gigs), so theres no way a single game can be more than 20 gigs. Also just delete a game when it sucks, thats still like 6 games on there easily with room for music and shit.

As I said if I was buying for right now, I'd get the 360. Better games, better price, online is great. Downside is the console itself is VERY unreliable (60% failure rate), XBL has monthly fee, have to buy HD DVD drive seperately, and games are already reaching the limits of it's power.

PS3 is not too great right now, but isn't bad either. Resistance is great online, Blueray is sweet, streaming stuff from computer is easy, internet browser works, can run linux and other OS, Blueray disc and cell processor ensures thats devs will be able to do anything in their games, and that even games like Lair (look up some videos of it and the water effects) are barely using any of it's full power. And the best is yet to come, great games are coming, as well as new features in for the XMB in the form of firmware updates.

The 360 dvd uses 15 layer which means that it can hold probably 20 gb. My cousin own a 360 and she said that it turns hot if you use it a lot. The ps3 has some more muscles than the 360 but the games today seems to be alike especially for the ps3 and the 360, you won't notice anything. The graphics are almost the same and the gameplay. But i think that the ps3 has alot better exclusive games like the warhawk but to bad it doesn't support single player  .

On the other hand the 360 is the more the versatile consoles because you can port it to the pc. One thing that i hate about the 360 is the online games you have to pay for it.

The hd-dvd being separate to the 360 has also some advantages like you won't be using the lens of your console because it has different lens and it is separated to the 360. The disadvantage is that it will cost more.

All in all both are excellent that is why i can't decide which one to buy.

If your family has enough money to buy both then why don't you just donate your money to the poor?

Ps3 also have good games and in fact most games available to the ps3 are also to the xbox 360. I mean that they almost have the same game.

I would get the Xbox 360 Elite. I used to own PSX, PS2, and was set on getting a PS3. But decided to buy a Xbox 360 instead(after waiting a year after it was out i might add), even though i never touched an original Xbox before. I couldnt be happier with my decision. Think about it though. $480 for a next gen console with 120GB hard drive, or $600 for a next gen console with 60GB hard drive. Even if you added the 50 dollars for a year worth of XBox live its still cheaper. And if you can afford either a PS3 or Xbox 360 i dont think paying 50 bucks a year for online gaming should be a big part in your decision. Xbox live is well done, and well worth the 50 bucks. Fact is that PS3 is hardly selling at all, Xbox 360 is THE next gen system at the moment. Sony is losing alot of exclusive titles to Xbox 360. I used to love the PS2 controller, i didnt want to change to the xbox 360 controller, but once i did, i noticed it was overall a better and more comfortable controller. Although the Dpad sucks. But thats the only thing i dont like about it. Sixaxis is a gimmick and i dont think you would have fun with it. Its not as good as the Wiimote. You do mention the blu ray player that the PS3 has. But i dont buy a gaminging system to watch movies, so i didnt want to pay the extra money and be forced into buying a movie player with my gaming system. Its totally up to you, and coming from a sony fanboy that made the change, i think you should seriously consider it. Xbox 360 has most games that will be on the PS3, except those made by sony, but Xbox 360 seems to be winning over the PS3 and getting the exclusive 3rd part games more often then not. Thats all i have to say. Get the Elite!

i was going to quote lj umali and tell him how most PS3 exclusive games are being made for the 360 now, but you summed it up -Young Buck-... Apparently Game developers are having trouble making games for the PS3 so they are bringing them to the 360, then porting them... So the 360 pretty much has all the games the PS3 has, + the 360 exclusive Games like Gears of War, one of the most fuken awesome games out :headbang:

i have been set on a ps3 forever now but over the last couple of weeks i have really come around to wanting the xbox 360. the number 1 reason for me is the price. the games talk dont really mean anything to me as pretty much every game i want, will be on both. infact the only difference so far that i can see will be with gta4 and the downloadable content. so price is the big thing for me.

young buck you talk about the controller and how much you loved the sony controller. well i personally thought the ps2 remote was the best remote ever and i thought i would never like the 360 controller. i still have yet to even hold one so i judged without having any reason too. you really think its better? how so?

Well it fits exactly into your hands really comfortable. I bought a PS2 again after playing xbox 360 alot and the PS2 controller felt skinny, and not very well shaped to my hand. Ive really adjusted to the shooting button being the right trigger for most games, same with gas for driving games. I remember playing GTA and shooting/driving being a face button. The analog stick and Dpag switch is okay, depending on what game you are playing. I really dont like dpad the xbox 360 controller has, but everything else is just great. I wish they would release a new 360 pad with better Dpad. If they did that id say it was the best controller ever.

Yea I also prefer the xbox controller over dualshock. The trigger is awesome, the analog sticks work a bit better when thery're not symmetrically placed plus the whole thing is more comfortable to hold.

the triggers on xobox are okay, but ps3 has made l2 and r2 trigger-like to copy xbox. I don't like the location of the dpad on the xbox and i find it hard to do subs in NBA 2k7. plus, i get confused because they named the face buttons the same letters as SNES but didn't put them in the right place. :|

don't forget though that online gaming is free on ps3 and you pay for xbox live. I don't know how much it is, but i'd hate the idea of paying for a game after i've already purchased it.

i think i am the only one left in the world who likes to use the D-pad more than the analog. when nba live started forcing you to use analog to play the game i nearly quit it forever, then i realized every game is going that way. very unfortunate for me but since i am clearly in a vast minority i can understand

I used to be like that too. I still like dpads, but i think analog, when you get used to it, will be better. I just have a problem playing games like Street fighter or mortal kombat where the moves involve Back, Foward, A for a special move. I would rather play with a dpad if i have to pull off these moves. In fact i play tony hawk project 8 with the 360 dpad, i cant play it with an analog stick. The problem for me with the 360 dpad is that it sucks. When i try to play mortal kombat or street fighter arcade games, i can press back then foward, but sometimes it will make me jump too. But playing THP8 hasnt been a problem really with using the Dpad, other then the fact that you have to hold in the left analog stick for a few seconds to get the slowdown effect, which is a pain in the ass sometimes.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you are the only one who prefers the D-pad. I mean it was a tough transition to get used to the analog at first, but after the following year it was practically second nature.

The D-pad is easier to use on the Sony controller because of it's placement. On the Xbox/GCN the placement of the left analog made it superior.
You gotta remember the general public still can barely use a dvd player and still have no idea what it means.

Heh. What? There's 80% market penetration for DVD.
The 360 dvd uses 15 layer which means that it can hold probably 20 gb.

Also, heh. What? Xbox 360 can read Single (4.7GB) and Dual Layer (8.5GB) DVD's for games. Sure, an HD-DVD can hold a ton more at 15 or 30 GB, but the Xbox 360 will not be using them for games.
