ok boys, some help here

Sun Mar 25, 2007 4:54 am

I got a new external harddrive and put all my games on it. I did realize that I would have to somehow tell the games that all the saved games are now in a different location, but I can't figure out how to do it. So. How do I make the game look for saves in a different location? It was My Docs, now I want it to be on the harddrive. I'm pretty sure it's a simple thing to do, I just can't figure it out.

I'm not too sure that you can do this, but its the only thing I can think of:

With TweakUI I know that you can specify new locations for places like 'My Documents' and move its files at the same time, but I doubt that it will actually move all the strings associated with it. So it would only work with new installations.

So I suppose if you're willing to try (and risk) it, you could uninstall the games but save all the stuff in their folder under My Documents, use TweakUI to change the location of My Documents, install the games again, and paste the old stuff into the new location.
But be aware that this might fuck things up, so it might be best just to leave it as it is if you got stuff on your computer that you really don't want to mess with..

Yeah, that doesn't sound like it'd be worth the risk. At the very least I can always leave the saves on my PC and run the games off the harddrive, so I think I'll pass on that, it's not worth it.

Find the folder where the games are.
Copy and paste.
It's more "work" but less the risk.

Is the external hard drive USB or something? Seems to me that would be much slower than an internal one. Which hard drive is your My Documents folder on right now? Maybe just copying it to both hard drives preserving the same folder hierarchy would work.

The ex. harddrive is USB, but it's not slow, I'd thought that too but I got lucky. I did try to copy the My Documents folder over, but it doesn't work.

I mean just copy the saves in your drive to the folder where the games access it. The games from your external still access the saves in the original folder (My Docs)

I was positive, when loading this thread, that there was some sort of girlfriend advice needed. Must've been just the way you worded it, haha.

Shadow, every post you make looks like you find something completely hilarious because of the smiley in your signiture.

I still wonder what Jugs posted though, must be really offensive for it to be deleted.

The last time I saw language filter in the forums was during the black and blue.

Oh it was a long string of words that went something like, "profanity deleted." Yeah, completely unnecessary.

This is where your [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags would come in handy.

Come on, I couldn't pass that one up.

I kinda had the same problem, I finally got a legit copy of Windows XP Pro and decided to install it. I guess instead of hitting "Repair" I did "new install" so after it finished I still had like all the files on my computer but none of the programs would run because they weren't linked that way through the registry or something. I couldn't figure it out and windows for some reason made my 320GB extra storage drive into like unreadable raw data that couldn't be saved :( So I ended reformatting both drives, but on the bright side I got rid of problems that seemed to slow my computer down because now its lightning fast again lol

I still have no idea what's going on, unfortunately. I can't imagine there's actually a filter - did somebody edit Jugs' post?

I think it's shadow's post that's throwing me off:
