The Colbert Report

Postby bigh0rt on Thu Mar 22, 2007 3:07 am

I know there's not a ton of political chit chat on these forums, I suspect due to the young age of the mean grouping of members, but for those who can, are you as in love with this show as I am? I always thought Stephen was pure hysterics when he was on The Daily Show, and has only gotten funnier with his own show. From his 'This Week in God' segments to his 'On Notice', I think he's arguably the funniest person on television.

So, who else thinks this guy is tits besides me?

I'm not even a Democrat, but ignoring the rarely-funny onslaught of anti-Bush humor, he's still absolutely hilarious. Whenever I see the show on, I have to watch it just because he's a fantastic comedian.

I think he is "tits"(wtf?). I love how he is sarcastic about everything, especially when speaking about Bush. It is great. The best part is how he treats the people he interviews like whatever they say is a load of crap. Does anyone know Colbert's actual political views? That would be interesting.

I've been watching most of the episodes for the past year or so (along with the Daily Show, of course) and it does have its moments, but I've gotten more and more tired of it. I think the style humour and his character is limited within a very, very close set of rules, and that's what bugs me the most. They (Stephen, the writers, the staff etc.) don't do anything wrong (especially not him, he does a great job), it's just that the character simply won't allow anything more.

As much of a success he's had, I wish he had stayed at the Daily.

1. "tits" is a reference to a South Park episode called Tooth Fairy Tats 2000 where cartman starts calling everything 'cool' "tits" as in the sentence "THATS BIG OLD FAT OPRAH TITS RIGHT THERE."
2. Secondly, Colbert is hilarious but even funnier is the people who dont realize he's a character, not actually a hardcore republican. I love the show and he's amusing as hell. Its also alot less biased than the daily show as of late (ever since colbert left, it got EXTREMELY left winged...and even though I agree with the left wing side, it doesnt mean i dont want everyone ripped on)....

It's not that Stewart isn't funny anymore. I don't think you can really say that. Though, since Stephen left, the show has grown exceedingly left, and it's definitely missing what Colbert brought it. The Report, however, is just purely hysterical. The way Stephen plays his character and never breaks it is just perfection. The whole spiel he had with O'Reilly a month back and even Willie Nelson over the past two weeks had me laughing up a storm.

I love how he has recently been promoting his new Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream flavor, Americone Dream. He is so good at acting completey full of himself yet still being funny.

It's one of my favorite shows. I realize those aren't his actual political views but it's funny nevertheless. It's one of the best shows on television right now.

It made its way onto the Comedy Channel on Foxtel here in Australia about a month ago, I'm not sure if it's shown on free-to-air. I've only seen snippets since I'm not a huge fan of political humour and thus don't make a point of watching it, but from what I've seen it seems like a funny show if you enjoy that area of humour.

I found out about this show after I finally got cable back, and I was amazed how good it was. Insanely funny/smart stuff...I'm sure this guy will get a higher-exposure type of show at some point, maybe on a network channel.
I thought I wouldn't like him, but Stewart is great too.

Jon Stewart didn't stop being funny, he just never was. (Funniest thing he's ever done was be on stage when Vanilla Ice went insane.) It was the correspondents that carried him, and when they left to superior things, the entire thing has degraded to an unwatchable point where only certain guests can barely salvage it. The sad part is, it's the number one "news" source for "college-educated" young people.

The Colbert Report is fantastic because of Colbert. It's not just the character, it's that Colbert has shown he can carry things by himself before. (See: Candy, Strangers With) Now he has the perfect character and forum to do it on a regular basis instead of in stints.

The sad part is that on Thursday's, when the Daily Show is surrounded by The Showbiz Show and The Colbert Report it looks even worse. Even that hypersensative to light freak David Spade is helming a superior program than Stewart these days.

It's not even like comparing Best Week Ever to The Soup (as BWE is palatable despite their ensemble not touching Joel) but more like comparing Bobby Flay to Anthony Bourdain.

Anybody catch Thursday night's episode?

That interview with the governor (or whatever her title is) of Guam was classic.
