Distorted Beauty?

Sun Feb 11, 2007 3:07 am

My gf showed me this interesting clip of what they typically do for fashion models: http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/flat4.asp?id=6909

As men, do you think this skews our perception of how we should expect women to look? Do we raise unrealistic standards? Do you think they should go easy on the make up and appearance?

I've seen that ad on television, there's a male version too if I'm not mistaken.

In any case, my perception of beauty is simplicity. I've noticed that since my first girlfriend who happened to be a blonde, I've fallen for girls that look quite similiar to eachother.

They have dark hair (brunettes), dark, big eyes, petite figures, a good behind and what has to be a must...lucious lips. The lips seems to be a recurring trend lately, the last three girls I've dated have had that and the one I'm with right now also fits the description.

In any case, I don't think that too much make up distorts our perception of beauty. There are different levels of beauty according to me, it just depends from person to person. A person could find Kate Moss very appealing because that person is in to thin women with small tits and that works for them. Me, I need to have a rounded behind, it's a must, a flat bum and you could be drop dead gorgeous and I'll have a meh feeling.

I stopped basing my "what a girl should look like/what I look for in a girl" which are shown in fashion magazines. Those things are sticks with pencil erasers for tits, not to mention that because most of them are so starved, they have shit personalities and the fact they don't eat creates bad breath.

Anyways, sorry for the little ramble.

I had no idea how similar my and Jackals girls taste is. I dont think I ever had a relationship with a blonde. Strange, but its true. All of my girls are brunettes, not too thin, I do not like, when a girl is skinny. The girls I date have to attract me, but I care much more about the personality. The girl has to be smart, and by smart I mean not like math or smth., just intelligent. Also, she has to be interesting, have what to say, have an opinion, and many many more things.

Our standards are definitely high due to the girls we see on TV and magazines and so on... but it's too late to change it.

Go easy on the make-up? Hell yeah, imo, girls with a lot of make up are ugly. I don't mind girls with a little make up but too much can kill a boner, assuming the girl gave you one to start with.

I think the magazine industry alters the photos a lot. As you can see with Vide Guerra pictures. They air-brush those images to the max. That is just one example, I mean, a lot of magazines do airbrushing, and other things to make an image better looking.

Nice video. I just saw how "beauty" is digitalized.

Yeah CS, I think back in middle school or something in Health class they showed us one of those Behind Holleywood videos or something where they showed how they took a model, and then digitally made her skinner and her breasts bigger or whatnot.

And in relation to Jackal's post, he said he tends to go towards blondes that look like his first girlfriend. Its weird because now that I look at it, I tend to go for girls who are a bit shorter than me, seeing as how my first girlfriend was a tad shorter than me. Interesting.

I did? No, I said the exact opposite. My first girlfriend was shortish, not fat but not skinny, blonde, did have a big butt and was very sweet.

After that I pretty much went the opposite of that.

I was not surprised about this. A local men's magazine here once featured a celebrity here that's considered "sexy" (just because of the boobs), the magazine with the girl on the cover was a hit. Then days later, pics of her "unedited" swarmed the net, and I was surprised to see this girl with all them fats showing off the garter.

Falling for celebrities is a big no-no. Names that come to mind are Eva Longoria, Pamela Anderson and various others.

Jessica Simpson and Jessica Alba still look cute without makeup, so it isn't that horrendous to have a liking for them. There are others aswell, but those were the ones off the top of my head.

Anyways, I'm guessing this will be my last post in this thread, so let's just solidify my opinion, my idea of beauty isn't as distorted as some of my friends'. :)

LOL, I also got the same pics in my inbox.

For future reference, Maxim is not a local men's magazine. It has other issues internationally.
