LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Bob Barker is heading toward his last showcase, his final "Come on down."

The silver-haired daytime-TV icon is retiring in June, he told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"I will be 83 years old on December 12," he said, "and I've decided to retire while I'm still young."

He'll hang up his microphone after 35 years as the host of "The Price Is Right" and 50 years overall in television.

Though he has been considering retirement for "at least 10 years," Barker said he has so much fun doing the show that he hasn't been able to leave.

"I've gone on and on and on to this ancient age because I've enjoyed it," he said. "I've thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm going to miss it."

no way. they always try to milk show for every last penny they can get. I mean, you still have shows like Family Feud around despite going through 3 hosts

It's like Dane Cook said in his stand up...whenever you're home sick...for some reason price is right is always on. It just happens to be there on tv while you're sick and miserable to help cheer you up. It will be missed once its gone..i just hope cbs doesnt replace it with another stupid fucking soap opera.

I agree. If they do replace him, it will probably be by some anonymous guy or a washed up actor and the show would probably fail.

I heard this earlier today... I love The Price is Right, and Bob Barker is probably my favorite TV Game Show host. Funny enough, I'll remember how he always asked people to get their pets spayed/neutered :lol:

I agree, the show will be nothing without him... but it will probably go on for a little while longer.

Yeah, Bob Barker was quite the guy. My mom was on the show in the late eighties, she won the showcase showdown. She said Bob was kind of an asshole inbetween sets and things.

Howie Mendel? Are you kidding me? That guy drives me insane. I remember back when I was younger he used to be on a cartoon called "Bobby" or something like that. It was on Saturday mornings. I just don't care for him much. Besides, I really don't think it is fair to compare someone who has been hosting a show for a year+ to someone who has been hosting for genertations.

I've got a couple friends who went on a road trip down through Cali this summer and were on the show. They said he was hilarious during the breaks and a great guy.

i heard somewhere that the price is right is going off the air when barker retires. (if only i could find a link)

anyways barker was a legend in game show hosting

Yes.

I have seen that fight scene so many times and I still find it absolutely hilarious when Sandler says that line :lol: . Though Barker's come back to beat the crap out of Sandler wasn't too shabby either.
