Sony has officially confirmed that the European launch of the PlayStation 3 has been delayed, citing "production issues with the blue laser diodes needed for the Blu-Ray drive". Originally planned for a simultaneous global release in November, the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, and Australasia will now have to wait until March 2007 to get their hands on a PS3. Plans to launch the PS3 in North America and Japan this November remain unchanged.
According to the announcement, "the PAL market is the most complicated region in which to launch the system, and is therefore the most pragmatic choice to bear the brunt of a shortage of components". Everyone outside North America and Japan is used to getting a bum deal when it comes to console launches, so this broken promise is certain to leave a bitter taste in the mouths of gamers everywhere. That price premium pill just got a little harder to swallow, too.

As a result, Sony has now lowered its estimate of 4 million PS3s shipped by the end of 2006 to a more realistic 2 million.

Go to your local EB Games and stand in line now if you want a PS3 on launch.

That has definitely made my mind up what to get now, 360 for me.

Crap, I don't want to make a mistake and get a 360 and then find out that PS3 is way better. But I don't want to be stuck with damn current gen for another 1/2 year

March 2007 gives me plenty of time to save up for a PS3 as I'm wisely investing in a Wii.

this makes ebaying a PS3 for $2000 very realistic.

i think the PS3 will be a big let down for that price and it wont do anything the 360 cant. By then the 360 will be under $500 Aus and microsoft will have it won. The wii is looking alright too

this further vindicates my decision to purchase a 360 rather than waiting for a PS3....I can't say I'm disappointed with the news as it is what I expected all along....

I have entered a competition to win a PS3 but now i have to wait 'till March 2007 to see if I won.....I was so anxious to see if I was going to win.

Man that's friggin ridiculous, the delay, but those numbers they are producing for the first release

they could raise the price to 1000$ and still sell them all as "collector's editions".

Well, if I'll have spare cash at that time, I might as well buy it, even though it's not a must for me really. A must for me currently is a nice ride
