New Look Raiders Destory Vikings In Preseason

Oakland Raiders - 68
Minnesota Vikings – 0

(Boxscore)
The first game of the preseason for the newly “renovated” Oakland Raiders against the Vikings of Minnesota. Minnesota sported new threads, but their skills seemed to remain the same: at the bottom of the league.

The Raiders won the coin toss and Quarterback Aaron Brooks led a march down the field. In 10 plays, Brooks took the team 64 yards down the field, eventually connected with 3rd string rookie receiver Sam Anurak for the first touchdown of the year. On the ensuing drive for the Vikings, they took 2 minutes, but were driven all the way back on the 1 yard one. They tried to run it out, but the run was stopped short by Warren Sapp, resulting in the safety as well as the ball for the Raiders. Right off that safety kick, Brooks bombed the ball downfield to Moss; 1 play, 56 yards, touchdown.

The first half wasn’t great for the Vikings, and the 2nd one wasn’t any better. They managed to prevent Buckley on consecutive drives to the endzone, but Janikowski still put 3 more points on the scoreboard for a 19-0 lead. Tyron Poole came off his man several minutes later and intercepted a pass and took it all the way 79 yards downfield for the touchdown, but the referees call it back on a hold by rookie John Smith. Despite this lucky chance for the Vikings, they didn’t capitalize and Brooks again led the drive down to the other end, including an 18 yard run, which resulted in a 24 yard pass to Fullback Crockett. Things looked even darker for the Raiders after star Koren Robinson was hit on the kickoff and came off the field holding his head. The half finally ended, with the Raiders up 35-0.

During the halftime, statistics were reviewed, and it turned out the Raiders had 10 first downs to the Vikings’ 1. Oakland also won the passing, 265 – 37 and rushing 84-0.

During the halftime, most of the starters were pulled, giving the bench players a chance to play and prove themselves. The backup running back Zack Crockett and backup Quarterback Andrew Walter defiantly proved themselves. Crockett ran the ball in just several minutes into the 3rd while 47 seconds later Walter zipped a pass to the starting back Alex Buckley for a 22 yard touchdown. 48-0 was the score at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The 4th string receiver Doug Gabriel grabbed a 10 yard throw from Walter and juked and spun many times, making the Vikings defenders dizzy, and eventually flipping into the endzone. This offensive barrage and consistent defensive was the story as finally the buzzer ended. 68-0 was the final score, one of the most lopsided victories in the history of the NFL, preseason or not.

    Game Notes

    - Andrew Walter’s QB Rating was 140.6 for 218 yards, 3 TDs, 9-16 (56%) completions, and 2 yards rushing
    - Aaron Brooks’s QB Rating 139.6 for 279 yards, 4 TDs, 11-20 (55%) completions, and 19 yards rushing
    - Lamont Jordan led the game with 91 rushing yards on 14 attempts, including 9 broken tackles
    - Alex Buckley had 69 yards rushing on 12 attempts, as well as 93 yards receiving
    - Fabian Washington led the team with 5 tackles, Xu was the only other player with 5 tackles

Raiders Allow Score But Still Destroys 49ers

Oakland Raiders - 68
San Francisco 49ers – 7

(Boxscore)
The game started horribly for the 49ers. San Francisco won the coin toss and chose to receive. On the following drive, Alex Smith was sacked 3 consecutive times, and pushed back all the way to the 1 yard line. Randy Moss took the pass from Brooks 32 yards, all the way to the 2 yard line after the punt and running back Alex Buckley took it in for the first score. It was 21 – 0 by the end of the first quarter.

Buckley continued his scoring and rushed for 28 of the 69 yards gained by the Raiders to push the lead to 28. Conrad Burry then intercepted the Alex Smith pass and an 83 yard pass by Brooks to Tight End Ben Branch demonstrated both players’ superb skills. Right before the half ended, Linebacker Will Sit took out Smith’s legs and flipped him, ending the half with Smith lying on the field. The score: 42-0.

The halftime stats were eye-popping; with the 49ers have –5 passing yards compared to the 317 by the Raiders. Overall the 49ers had a total of 5 total yards compared to the Raiders’ 388.

Conrad Burry caused another turnover, this time a fumble, on the fullback Washington, which was picked up by Defensive End Kelly Thomas and brought back from the defensive touchdown. Finally San Francisco managed to get on the board, with an interception by Mike Adams in front of the endzone, bringing it all the way for a 96 yard interception return for touchdown. 55-7 was the score at the end of the 3rd.

With nothing left to play for but respect, the 49ers came out and tried their best, putting up lofting passes, going deep, and running behind blocks, but the Raiders’ defense was simply too punishing. Also Oakland’s offense was unstoppable, LaMont Jordan ran in 2 touchdowns within 2 minutes, making the score 68-7, ending the game.

    Game Notes

    - The Raiders had a total of 611 yards on offense compared to the 49ers 67; almost 10 times more
    - The Raiders had an 18-4 advantage in first downs
    - Aaron Brooks had an insane QB Rating of 152.6 as he threw for 332 yards, 5 TDs, and completing 17-20 passes for 70%
    - Ben Branch led the game in receiving with 175 yards receiving with 4 catches
    - Will Sit and Conrad Burry were the co-defensive players of the game. Sit had 5 tackles and 2 sacks while Burry had 4 tackles and an interception
    - Kicker Sebastian Janikowski missed both of his field goal attempts, while punter Shane Lechler averaged 45 yards a punt

ehhh... playing the games are fast and easy, but recapping is not, espically now that school has started and so has ultimate. If there are going to be any recaps, it will be like just several images, plus several notes at the bottom, no long recaps, if you dont mind
