Falcons Falter In Fourth
Michael Vick and the Falcons offence break down

Image

Atlanta, GA. The score does not always tell the full story. Such a statement is true and fitting for the outcame of todays game. The Atlanta Falcons looked great in the first half, sure they werent getting into the end zone, but Michael Vick was completing short, smart passes and Warrick Dunn ran to the outside for nice gains early and often. Add the amazing defence that the Falcons played throughout the game, and at half time most people would of been awaiting a few touchdowns for Atlanta, more good defence, the final whistle, and a 1-0 record. Such was not to be.

After the fantastic first half, the Falcons entered the 3rd without making any substitutions. The Patriots had a full sub to get some of the 2nd String guys some valuable playing time, which in theory should make the Falcons job easier, but it didn't. Rookie RB Laurence Maroney single handedly destroyed the Atlanta defence, and got the Pat's close enough for their first touchdown of the game, giving them a 13-6 advantage. The Falcons took over on offence, and Michael Vick was immediatley sacked. Vick was then pressured into a tough pass, were he just managed 5 yards. Warrick Dunn converted the 3rd down with a nice run to the left sideline. A few more Vick passes, a Warrick Dunn first down, and a Jerious Norwood carry later, and the Falcons were in great scoring position, looking to tie the game up.

Thats were the luck stopped. Michael Vick threw into thick coverage and the potential touchdown pass was picked off by Randall Gay. 98 yards later, the Patriots were up by two touchdowns. The Falcons looked sloppy on the next offensive possesion, being tackled twice in the backfield. They had to try to convert the fourth down with the fourth quarter drawing closer and closer, plus they were in a good spot in the Patriots territory. Vick kicked the ball out to Dunn, who sprinted to the right sideline, but a Patriot defender found a hole in the offensive line and tackled him before he could get back to the line of scrimmage.

To rub salt on the wounds, Laurence Maroney repeatedly punished the Falcons defense, picking up big yards thanks to fabolous duke moves. Eventually, he pulled them all the way to the red zone, were he pulled out an amazing duck move to avoid a big hit from the Falcons Corey Hall. Maroney powered his way through the Falcons defense to record his first, and the Patriots last, touchdown on the following play.

Game Highlights:

Michael Vick completes an amazing 80yd TD pass to wide receiver Ashley Lelie

Randall Gay picks off the Vick pass and returns it 98yds for the spectacular touchdown

Rookie Laurence Maroney with an amazing move to pick up some extra yardage

Falcons Fall Short After Comeback
Rookie CB Will Blackmon Shatters Falcons Hopes

Image

Green Bay, WI. Green Bay looked great from kickoff. The game started on a 20 yard return, followed by a 4 yard run from Ahman Green, which was in turn followed by an amzing 76yd TD run by that same guy. "That same guy" turned out to be the Falcons worst nightmare during the first half. At one point, defensive standout Keith Brooking tackled Green about 10 yards in the back field, but Green broke through the tackle, only to be tackled by two defenders, which he broke through again, and was luckily stopped 20 yards later by DeAngelo Hall.

It was the same story throughout the first half, as Green and Favre played almost perfect games, destroying the Falcons defence with ease. While Green collapsed the defensive line going up the middle for big gins, Brett Favre picked up 1st down after 1st down with his pinpoint passing. The Packers went back to the locker room with an 18 point advantage, leading 21-3.

During halftime, Michael Vick had a talk with Warrick Dunn, just to let him know that despite his miserable effort in the first half, he had to keep on attacking, and that the game was not over. Dunn exploded in the second half for over 100yds. "I just told him even though it was a pre-season game, he has to set an example for the younger guys, especially Jerious, and show him that the Atlanta Falcons dont just give up." Vick said after the game. Vick and Dunn combined for huge plays down the stretch and eventually got the Falcons the lead with less than 3 minutes to go in the fourth.

To bad the Falcons defense couldnt keep up. Backup Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw a nice pass to Donald Driver, around the 40 yard line. Lawyer Milloy looked to have him wrapped up, but he somehow broke free and headed towards the end zone. DeAngelo Hall, as quick as he may be, was just too far away to catch up. The Packers went up 28-24 with just 2 minutes remaining. Warrick Dunn tried as best he could as he dragged the Falcons up the field. Michael Vick then took over and began hitting recievers like crazy, until one not so smart pass found its way into the hands of rookie CB Will Blackmon. Blackmon returned the ball back to the 32 yard line. With only 1 minute remaining, the Falcons could do little to stop the clock, and after they used their last timeout, the game was over.

Game Highlights:

Ahman Green scores a TD in the opening seconds

Warrick Dunn exploded for 100+ yds in the second half thanks to runs like this

Packers Rookie Will Blackmon saves the day with the interception off of a careless Vick pass

Heartbroken Falcons Suffer Another Hit
Michael Vick couldn't get it done when it mattered

Image

Nashville, TN. Today the Atlanta Falcons blew another game to a mediocre team, this time to the Tennessee Titans. The Titans came out the gate strong and built up a large lead heading into the second half, thanks to well designed running plays and short yardage passes for first downs. The Falcons couldn't get going as usual early on, as they were constantly forced into tough 3rd down situations, and numerous 4th downs. Warrick Dunn was tackled in the backfield mutiple times, and when he ran up the middle for short gains, all he found was a collapsed offensive line and various defenders running at him.

Michael Vick began to find his recievers for gains more and more as the game went on, but that couldnt help cut down 11 point deficit by halftime, as they trailed 20-9. Opening the second half, the Titans inserted rookie QB Vince Young, who was immediately sacked twice. The Titans then turned the ball over on a fumble, which was recovered by the Falcons and returned for a touchdown, which cut the lead to just four. Atlanta continued a great defensive effort and forced a punt, but backup QB Matt Schaub was cold and couldnt find anyone for anything at all, Warrick Dunn tried to take over but he couldnt get anything going either.

After a few unexpected offensive boosts from Warrick Dunn, Matt Schaub had the possible fate of the Falcons in his hands on second down. He thought he had an open man to the left, but safety Calvin Lowry quickly jumped on the oppurtunity for an interception, and returned the ball 55 yards for a touchdown and a 11 point lead. Immediately after kickoff, Vick rallied the the Falcons all the way down to the 33 yard line by making short, smart passes while Warrick Dunn and Jerious Norwood kept the defence honest with solid running. After a tough call on 3rd down, Falcons rookie Tony Yelk was forced to try a 42yd field goal, which he slotted with relative ease.

Entering the final period, the Falcons continued a great defensive showing and ripped apart the offensive line to force bad passes and create havoc for QB Vince Young. When it came time for the Falcons to try on offence, they were in turn shut down by the Titans tough defence. The game was a stalemate down to the final minute, when Warrick Dunn collected nice yardage on nifty runs, and that opened up Michael Vicks passing game as he went down the field on numerous play action fakes to Ashley Lelie. With just 1:20 remaining, Michael Vick threw a bullet pass into the end zone, only to have it picked off by Titans SS Donnie Nickey.

The game looked all but over with the Falcons down 8 and the clock winding down. Vince Young passed it of to fellow rookie LenDale White, but he couldnt find anything and was tackled in the backfield multiple times. The Falcons stopped the clock with 56 seconds to go, in a 3rd and long situation. Vince Young once again handed it off and White broke out the the side line, only to be tackled just inches from the first down. The Falcons used their last timeout with 52 seconds to go. DeAngelo Hall let the punt go out of bounds around the halfway marker and Michael Vick took the field.

Vick immediately passed to WR Roddy White for a short gain, but was then forced into a tough 3rd and 22 after a huge sack from the Titans Travis LaBoy. Luckily, Ashley Lelie broke out into the open and Vick found him with a nice pass for a huge gain, and the Falcons found themselves on the 15 with a great chance to tie the game up with a two point conversion which didnt seem out of reach due to the way Warrick Dunn was running the the outside for easy yards. On first down, no recievers could get open, and Michael Vick had to throw it to the sideline to avoid a sack. On second down, it looked as if Roddy White had the touchdown, but he dropped it as he landed, and was slow to get up. Entering their second-to-last chance to tie the game up, the Falcons took their time choosing a play. The snap came, and Vick dropped back and unloaded a bullet towards Alge Crumpler in the end zone, but LB Stephen Tulloch, who looked like he was out of place in the defence, somehow was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and picked off the pass. Vince Young took a knee, let the clock run out, and the game was over. The Falcons are still winless and will face the Jacksonville Jaguars at home next week in a game that will see one of the teams record their first win of the preseason.

Game Highlights:

Falcons CB Jimmy Williams returns a fumble for a nice touchdown

Titans safety Calvin Lowry picks off the Matt Schaub pass for a touchdown

Michael Vick couldnt get it done yet again as he had his potential game tying pass picked off in the final moments

Looks good so far. But I got a question. I haven't play Franchise mode in Madden on a console since 2005. Is that all of the Training Camp drills? I'm asking cause on the PSP version theres at least twice as many training camp drills/games, but they usualy add stupid exclusive mini games on the PSP. Just wondering

Thu Aug 31, 2006 8:11 am

nah thats all the drills. but each one has like four levels of difficulty i think

Atlanta Falcons Finally Pull One Together
Ashley Lelie stars, Vick amazes in first half

Image

Atlanta, GA. Michael Vick and the Falcons looked great in todays win over the now 0-4 Jacksonville Jaguars. After the Jaguars won the toss, they elected to recieve the ball and RB Fred Taylor pulled them all the way up to the 30 yard line, without a single pass attempt from QB Byron Leftwich. Then it came. Leftwich recieved the snap, dropped back and threw the ball right into the waiting hands of the Falcons' Lawyer Milloy. Milloy returned the ball to the 40 and the Falcons offence took the field for the first time.

After 3 games of slow starts and sad endings, Falcons fans were extremely suprised to see a scenario such as the one they were about to witness actually play out. First down, 2 recievers on the field, split backs. Michael Vick drops back, waits, scrambles left, waits, fires. A great reception by WR Roddy White, an even greater move to avoid the tackle, a 60 yard TD pass, and all of a sudden the Falcons are up by a touchdown. Vick left the field and congratulated White on his great run and the defence took over. On the next drive, the Falcons defence played Leftwich tough, forcing him to throw bad passes or scramble right into a sack compliments of Ed Hartwell. After a couple of first downs, the Jags were forced to punt, and Falcons fans began to cheer loudly as Vick took the field once again.

Michael Vick did not disappoint either. After some nice short passes complimented by Dunn's ability to split defenses, the Falcons found them selves at the 45, looking to score again. Vick took the snap and and fired a huge lob pass into the end zone and the hands of Ashley Lelie. Another Michael Vick touchdown pass and an extended lead with just 1:40 remaining in the 2nd. Fred Taylor continued his slaughter of the Falcons defence right after kickoff however, and Jacksonville made it all the way back within field goal range, but that was as close as they could get. Three failed passes and they had to kick it, and K Josh Scobee nailed a 50 yarder.

After the kickoff, Warrick Dunn found good yardage and pulled the Falcons unexpectedly back into scoring range, with a chance to score yet again before halftime. Vick decided to throw. He dropped back, saw a man coming at him and scrambled, where he saw another defender, so he threw an off balance pass down the field where it was dropped by Alge Crumpler. As the offence ran back to the huddle, Vick was still laying on the ground. "I just hurt my back a little bit, I'l be fine by game one" said Vick, who did not return to the game.

In the second half, the Falcons continued to dominate offensively behind strong showings from RB Warrick Dunn and WR Ashley Lelie, but struggled to stop the Jaguars on defence, and allowed 2 more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. However, the Falcons had built up too big a lead for the Jaguars to make a game out of this one, as the Falcons went on to win it 38-31. Behind Michael Vick in the first half, Warrick Dunn in the second, and Ashley Lelie throughout, the Falcons won their first game of the preseason and will go into the regular season on a high note.

Ashley Lelie accounted for 241 yards of the Falcons total offence, mainly thanks to great passes by Vick and backup Matt Schaub. "I was in a zone tonight, I just felt like I couldn't drop the football. I wanna thank Michael for hooking me up with some great passes and Matt for keeping me in the game when it mattered most." said Lelie "I know we lost all of our first preseason games, but this win wipes all that away, we goin' into the season on a high... its our time to shine" added Vick. Warrick Dunn ran for 124 yards on the night as the Falcons improved to 1-3 and get ready to start the 2006-07 NFL season.

Atlanta Falcons Win Season Opener
Warrick Dunn couldn't be stopped

Image

Box Score

Charlotte, NC. Today the Atlanta Falcons executed to near perfection on offence and played great defence on the way to their first win of this new NFL season. Michael Vick was great, but the numbers do not tell the full story, as Vick dashed around hopeless defenders for numerous completions. Warrick Dunn was simply unstoppable running the ball down the left sideline today as he stacked up 178 yards and 2 touchdowns on 28 attempts for a 6.3yd average. When asked why he ran down the left almost every running play, his answer was simple - "Because Julius Peppers was on the right!".

The Falcons got off to a great start, as Vick rattled off first down after first down and Warrick Dunn ran to the sideline for big yardage. The Falcons worked their way down the field and into the redzone where Michael Vick found WR Ashley Lelie for a 4 yard touchdown pass. After the following kickoff, the solid Falcons defence forced a three-and-out and the offence took over once again. Vick had trouble passing the ball mainly thanks to Panthers defender Chris Gamble, but Warrick Dunn came to the rescue with great runs.

As the Falcons pushed their way over the halfway mark, Vick set up the shotgun for the long pass on 3nd and 6. With just 10 seconds to go on the play clock, the formation suddenly changed and Vick tossed the ball to Dunn who followed fantastic blocking, broke a tackle and dived in for the 38 touchdown run. After playing great defense through the start of the second quarter, Jake Delhomme got a lucky pass off to WR Drew Carter for the touchdown, which would turn out to be the Panthers only scoring drive of the game.

As the clock neared half time, Warrick Dunn unexpectedly broke free once again for a 37 yd touchdown run that looked almost identical to his run early in the first quarter, which put the Falcons up 21-7 entering the second half. In the third quarter, the Falcons continued their strong offensive showing, completely destroying the Panthers defense on 3rd down situations. Unfortunately, Michael Vick seemed to lose his touch and was picked off twice in the quarter. The Panthers suffered the same problems offensively as Delhomme's high lob pass was picked off by CB DeAngelo Hall, which ended a scoreless quarter.

In the fourth the Panthers just couldn't get it done as they were held scoreless once again while the Falcons running game thrived. About a third of the way through the quarter, coach Jim Mora Jr. sent in backup QB Matt Schaub and rookie HB Jerious Norwood, who would finish with 42 rushing yards on 13 attempts. As the Falcons slowly moved their way up the field waiting for the final whistle, Jerious Norwood pwered his way through the defence for a 12 yard gain, which put Atlanta in scoring position. After an incomplete pass which saw Matt Schaub injured (minor thigh injury, only out for 4 plays) Vick re-entered the game and ran in the final touchdown of the game for a 28-7 Falcons victory.

Falcons Open Season With Back-To-Back Wins
Atlanta Falcons Shut Down Buc's And Dominate Offensively

Image

Box Score

Atlanta, GA. The Falcons couldn't of asked for a better start to this new 2006-07 NFL season. After finishing 1-3 in the preseason thanks to bad passing percentages and even worse defence, things were looking bleek for the Falcons. Instead, they improve to 2-0 with a completely dominating performance at home over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to the tune of 44-6. The great effort put forth by the defence was amazing, just have a look at the numbers, just 42 rushing yards allowed in the entire game, to go along with 3 interceptions and 2 sacks. Chris Crocker led the way with 8 tackles on the night, continuing his great season so far.

The game was very defensive during the first quarter, as no team would let up. Michael Boley picked off Chris Simms pass and returned it for 7 yards, but the Falcons offence was forced out just 1 first down later. The game continued with great defence and slow, grind it out offence until the 2nd quarter started off with a bang. On the first play of the quarter, DeAngelo Hall picked off the pass and returned it 11 yards, which set the Falcons up at their own 45. On 1st and 10, RB Warrick Dunn recieved the handoff from Michael Vick, ran to the left, spun around a helpless defender, and ran it in for a 55 yard touchdown run, which might be play of the year so far. After the Falcons forced a field goal, the offensive onslaught continued, as Vick found Dunn again for a touchdown, this time on a 20 yard touchdown pass to give the Falcons a 14-3 advantage with just under 2 minutes to go. However, it didnt stop there. As Chris Simms unloaded a pass to WR Michael Clayton, he was hit hard by the Falcons' Ed Hartwell. As Clayton landed, the ball popped up and Hartwell swooped in and picked up the fumble. Hartwell ran 57 yards to the end zone, barely escaping 2 tackle attempts by Bucs defenders.

As the game entered the second half, the Falcons led 21-3 and looked as if they had the game wrapped up. They continued their strong defensive effort and again forced quick three-and-outs, one of which resulted in a Falcons drive that ended with a huge pile up on the goal line that was ruled a touchdown to Falcons FB Justin Griffith. As the 4th quarter opened up, the Bucs seemed as if they had a new life breathed into them, as they moved down the field with relative ease. Eventually the Falcons defense woke up, and forced a long field goal attempt, which was made by Buccaneers K Matt Bryant. That would be the Bucs last points of the game, as the Falcons executed again and again, and Dunn found the end zone one more time on a short run before being taking out of the game along with Michael Vick.

As the time began to wind down, the Falcons were forced into a 4th down situation, but capitalized on the FG attempt from Michael Koenen. After forcing a tough 4th down situation for the Bucs, the Falcons took over on offence yet again and used rookie RB Jerious Norwood to run down the clock. Unexpectedly though, Norwood managed to pick up big gains on numerous occasions, including a 19 yard run to put the Falcons in scoring position once again. After 2 failed running attempts by Norwood, QB Matt Schaub threw only his second pass of the game through double coverage, and into the hands of Eric Beverly for the touchdown, which made the final score 44-6 and gave the Falcons a 2-0 record.
