Should this movie be put in theatres?

Yes, it needs to be documented for everyone to see.

World Trade Center Movie

Tue Aug 08, 2006 12:57 am

Just wondering, is making a movie about 9-11 a great idea? I’ve read in papers where people don’t want the movie to be in theatres because they already lived through 9-11 once and don’t want to experience the horror again (like one person who lost a family member said she ran out cause she didn’t want to witness the “murder” again), while others say it’s an important part in history and thus needs to be documented.

What do you think, is it right to make a movie on something like this? I personally feel like it’s a bit sensitive to those who were directly affected, because it’s like losing someone again, but the event is like engraved in American history and probably does need to be shown.

I think it is okay, but I am neither an American nor have ever been to the USA. From what I have heard for most of the people this movie comes just too early.
But generally it is okay, such movies just are exciting and many people like them. World war 2 was also sick and maybe the worst thing that could happen, and how many movies about it do we have ?

Tue Aug 08, 2006 1:22 am

I think that it does need to be shown but not for another 5 years. Having a movie where people will be making money off it is a huge moral dilema (I dont know if they are donating money or not) But i think there should be a minimum of 10 years after a major incident before movies / documentaries are made so all the conspiracy idiots can go away.

Now we're expected to believe that the same government that was able to commit the largest terrorist operation in history--with military precision no less--is suddenly too incompetent to sniff out and shut down a little website set up by some college losers within days, if not minutes of its creation?

im with jao, it should be documented but not this early in time, in the thing with hollywood is that there going to over exadurate it just like every hollywood document

Tue Aug 08, 2006 3:05 am

It should be made, as a historical film like others based on actual events: WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, Gladiator, etc.

Maybe it's too early, but that's subjective, and I think five years is fair enough.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's not forced upon you or anything. The movie tells a story about two courageous policemen. It doesn't dish conspiracies or tell you how to think about the event. In fact, 9/11 is more like the setting than the story; the story is two guys who were caught inside as the building collapsed, and their story on how they survived.

And considering how the two men, off whom the movie was based, were okay with the making of the film, I'm okay with it.

Tue Aug 08, 2006 3:46 am

I don't care either way.

that is a very good point, I can't say anything else

Tue Aug 08, 2006 4:05 am

should be made in like 40 or 50 years...where not everyone would have witnessed it.

Tue Aug 08, 2006 7:48 am

should of been made after 80 years, like the titanic movie

Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:52 am

it needs to be made into a movie, even if it was a horrible event it is still a part of history

......and making a romance movie out of Pearl Harbor is appropriate?

Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:24 am

I haven't decided if I am going to go see it or not. I hope they donate most of the money to the World Trade Center memorial fund. You know they are eventually going to make a movie out of it because that is just how America is. I just hope the movie isn't all Hollywood and no facts. If you want to do it you better do it right because I will be upset if it ends up like another Pearl Harbor, like NJNetsFan said.

I watched Flight 93 the A&E movie and I liked that one. I haven't seen the United 93 movie that was in theaters though.

Tue Aug 08, 2006 12:01 pm

The United 93 that was in theatres wasnt bad, I like it. I'm reluctant about this one because I see no need to have a popular hollywood name in there, especially Nicholas Cage of all people. I probably wont see it just for that reason.

I dont think making THAT movie out of Pearl Harbour was ever appropriate.

"All i can think about is your smile, and that shitty movie too, cos Pearl Harbour sucked and i miss you." - Team America quote for those of you playing at home.

Switch to serious mode, i'm not American. I've never been to America, so September 11 didnt affect me as much as it undoubtedly affected a lot of you. But while terrorism and these horrible acts continue to flourish across the world, people need to be reminded of the heroes who are there for them, whatever the cost. This film would do that. Films have the power to bring people together, and that is so important during these tumultous times.

It would be interesting for us to watch (non-victims) but for the others it would be painful and emotional. Anyway, I'd go watch it if there was one. This ones a truly historical event.

You're an idiot. There's already a thread dedicated to movies. And Talladega Nights wasn't that funny.

I dont see why its such a big deal. Besides, everyone knows how the movie is going to end anyway by all the previews (not just the obvious falling of the WTC but the characters). They show Cage and some other guy trapped in rubble and if you watch the previews you see what happens to them.

Either way, its just a movie that will probably not be very good but only make money because its about 9/11. On top of that, they have the british band, Coldplay, as the preview music, I thought that was kind of funny.

Wed Aug 09, 2006 3:13 am

it should be ok, so long as they don't butcher it completely in the name of a more interesting story.

Wed Aug 09, 2006 11:43 pm

I would be interested to see a movie based on 9/11.

Thu Aug 10, 2006 3:15 am

Well, I saw the towers fall first hand is probably a moment in my life I will never forget watching the towers fall. I live right across the Hudson river and it was a huge moment and very unforgetable. I would like to see this movie, and I think it should be watched.

stop being a retard.

after reading this... i think it might do well for me not to watch the video. i'm an emotional person, and i probably can't handle twice of the same disaster

Thu Aug 10, 2006 3:20 am

I wouldn't watch it. I hate these "this is inspirational, USA-USA-USA!" movies. I think people should stop trying to make money off things like this.

stop being a retard.

But he's right... admittedly Mikki's original font in that post looked like this but still.
